Respectfully Homeless
FOUND by Willem O. in Newark, CA
I found this note stuck to the door of an unused garbage dumpster shed in the parking lot where I work. I had noticed someone must have been living in it a week or two before from empty liquor bottles strewn about. I guess they got caught and moved on. I never saw them once the whole time.

Of what, Dog breath??? What is "inconsistant letttering" a sign of?

It took them a while to get a ride because they left the lights on and the battery died. Bummer.

That's the thing about being homeless: you're invisible to most other people.

Was there really a "WE"? (pardon ME.. WE went to get a ride.)

to whomever we know: we have to move. We shall miss you all, and will do our best to keep in touch.

Librarian, your simply worded yet somehow .. elegant post almost made me have to choke back a tear or two. Tragic. it's sad and terrifying how easily (and quickly) peoples' lives can get away from them when they're not paying attention.

I didn't know where Newark, CA was, so I yahoo mapped it: about 25 miles south of Oakland on 880. Yep. That fits.

Homeless sounds like a better neighbor than most of the people I've lived near in my lifetime.

Jane and Tim had been living in the dumpster for two years, too proud to beg for change from strangers, but no one ever seemed to notice them. When it was time to move on, they left a note in hopes that someone would find it and know they had been there.

Maybe I've been listening to too much news...I didn't read the blurb by Willem O. right away and my first thought was this was a note left on someone's door for the person coming to evict them during a foreclosure. I don't know which is worse, the image in my head or the reality of Willem's description?

Librarian, I take it you notice everyone else?

You don't have to be homeless to be invisible.

Is this the same Found Magazine that was featured on 20/20 on June 12th?

Yes, Jersgram, it is. The One, The Only. Found Magazine. (and dammit, I missed it on 20/20!!)

You can search Found Magazine on You Tube and come up with clips of readings from Found shows, Davy Rothbart's appearance on Letterman, and all sorts of other fun stuff. But watch out. Studies have shown that Found is habit forming.

Phooey, I missed it, too.

This Find puts the theme to The Jefferson's in my head. Hopefully that's appropriate.
