We collect FOUND stuff: love letters, birthday cards, kids' homework,
to-do lists, ticket stubs, poetry on napkins, telephone bills, doodles -
anything that gives a glimpse into someone
else's life. Anything goes...
ha!
this young student has found truth early in the school year!
Very appropriate for election day!
I love the black clouds at the end of the rainbow and the blue White House...very inspiring
this made my day, thanks!
This kid is wise beyond her/his years. Brought a smile to my face.
wow, and I thought kids didn't learn anything these days!
Did the kid write that? It looks like an adult added it afterwards. Anyhow...What does Bush suck anyway?
I think he's sucking the life out of the middle class, Want to turn all of us into corprate slaves.
I can't get over how fantastic this is!
Young children are so wise.
Yes! This made my day a little better!
This is scary. This child has been brain washed into hating something he/she cannot possible understand. We always say 'don't teach hate' but when it's Bush that's OK? No, hate is not OK.
I agree with Come on...it is scary. The left (and, I'm guessing, many of the people who commented) get angry when some kid goes to sunday school, but love it when a five year old marches for some inane socialist cause. You're hypocrites.
Wow, it takes absolutely nothing to offend someone these days. Is it that difficult to just appreciate that this drawing is funny? It'd be funny if it was about anyone else; it's not funny because it's Bush. Oh, and saying someone "sucks" isn't the same as saying that you hate them.
I hate politics, but this is funny.
So saying Bush sucks means you're a leftist marching for an inane socialist cause? Now that's a bit harsh, isn't it? Nice drawing though.
It would only be hateful if, say, there were flames coming out of the windows of the White House in the drawing.
sweet and to the point !
gotta love them neighbor kids!! maybe its a signature above the building.
to Derek: I GO TO SUNDAY SCHOOL
Cute, but I agree that the 'Bush Sucks' is not a child's handwriting. Would've been hilarious if it was.
I like Bush, but I can still laugh at this propaganda (Disclaimer: The term Propaganda refers to the use of a childs drawing for political speach). After all, the lines forming the letters in the hand writing do not match the line style of the art work.
I loved this! So did my Grandmother!
Regardless if the child wrote "Bush sucks" or not doesn't matter, the black clouds at both ends of the rainbow state his/her point clearly
I wish I could've been as bright as that kid when I was younger.
i disagree about the handwriting -- it easily could have been written by a child. looks like 3rd or 4th grade penmanship to me.. either way, the drawing is great. looks like something my son would draw. :-)
The child was most likely mimicking something they heard from the parents.
They were way too young to be thinking about politics.
I know someone who draws AND writes like this. It is very likely the same person.
Bush probably doesnt literally suck, but I wouldnt be surprised if he chews Monica's old gum from under the desk
I don't think this is a political statement at all. The rainbow symbolises this young artist's struggle as he comes to terms with being gay (read: he hates bush!). Further proof can be garnered by the aesthetically pleasing touches he added to the house (curtains/chimney).
I don't know if the black clouds are symbolic or anything...when i was a kid, i thought it was "wrong" to leave anything white, so i would've colored the clouds, like, black or yellow just to fill them in.
All i have to say is that I think that, regardless of your political party, the general population seems to want to make some kind of political statement. Maybe we should focus on helping better the people not only of america, but also the world, instead of focusing on if the way we do something is a republican or democratic ideal, or who is leading us.
Look at those clouds, it's going to rain.
So - this seems like a happy picture, but then it says in all caps: "BUSH SUCKS". Is that a good thing, kid? Or is it saying that everything would be perfect if bush didnt suck? hmm
my favorite part of the picture: the little chimney on top of the white house.
So does McCain and Palin. I would if that kids knows that too.
I wish I would have found this in my classroom.
we "voted" in 4th grade, (mondale/regan lol) maybe its for school. a lil' campaign. but its also possible the kid is mad about not getting something he wanted, and is blaming ol' G Dub, like hes probably seen a lot of people do. im guilty of that. but as some of you were saying, its not right for the kid to be influenced like that. i mean, maybe he learned real facts, like at school, and formed his own opinion. who am i kidding, the kid's brainwashed.
hah. wow. couldnt have said it better myself, kid.
No one mentioned the artist's ability to deconstruct conventions of perspective. Check out the house. The artist presents us with a single face, but the left side is obviously the front, but the right side -- to the right of the third pillar from the left looks like the actual side of the structure. A single rectangle contains both the front and side of the structure.
The ground on the right side has depth but the roof has none. very trippy. very picasso.
Additionally, the clouds are black because the sun is behind them so they are shadowy. Like clouds tend to be.
Aw, "seriously?", I think you're reading a little too much into this sweet picture, art wise. I believe that the building was supposed to be one, large equal face in 2-D, but the child just ran out of room to make everything symmetrical on the right, hence things had to be squished on the right side. The illusion of depth is even furthered by the folded corner of the note in the lower right-hand corner. We can see the ground is just a straight line, interrupted by the creases and folds of the paper.
I also think it's a stretch to attribute the dark color of the clouds to be shadowy from the sun. This is a picture where there's a white space between the sky and the ground, common in children's drawings. Now, I might be reading too much into this, but I hardly think the little kid would have enough artistic perspective to think to portray shadow that way. Besides, the sun is on equal ground with the clouds. :) I'd wager the kid just picked a random color for the clouds or drew them dark because it has to rain to make a rainbow (hence a darker sky,) but who can say?
I think it's an adorable little drawing, but there's no extra perspective or insight. Just childhood goodness and outright telling it like it is (or how they perceive it to be.)
