Puppet Ride
FOUND by Gelc in New Jersey
I found this while packing books for a book drive. On the back it says "Matt, B.G. and Puppet, July 1970" One can only assume that Puppet's having the time of his life. Poor B.G. though.

That is one calm cat. Mine would have taken my arm off if I tried to straddle his back with a
puppet. My cat wouldn't let me put anything around his upper-half...or lower.. without taking skin. He's a bit picky. I admire this feline for at least standing still for the pic...he does kinda have a "I'm gonna make you pay for this" look.

The cat's name is Puppet.

Also, what's that coming off the dude's foot? Looks like he's got an extra toe in the "thumb" position.

Oooh and I also faintly see strings. The puppet is probably barely touching the cat (hanging from the strings), hence the lack of feline freak-out.

You're right Rob...that toe thing is weird. I think the cat is just waiting calmly for someone to open the sliding door so it can leave. Tails up and waving, ears are forward...not mad at all. My fatso is asleep IN MY LAP and if I get near his face his ears lay flat on his head. Granted, he likes a whole hand across his face and head...still have to jerk a little when he goes for it again.

What I DID Today:

1) Woke up to that smell
2) Had toast
3) Dealt with 6th toe
4) Shopping in Tijuana: birks, bathing suit, racist puppet
5) Forgot to clean sliders
6) Tried out toe-thumb birkenstocks
7) Waited until dark
8) Rode BG with racist marionette
9) Documented oppression
10)Laughed so hard I peed a bit

Puppet must have been poised for seconds only! Just long enough to snap the photo. The cat I shared my life with for 10 years considered any object hanging from a string, however fine, to be a cat toy. It would have been reduced to its original components in about a second.

Poor Matt...he gets a mention, but we only see one leg. Well, OK, a leg and a half.

OMG!! I have that puppet! A souvenir from an uncle's trip to Mexico around the same time. He haunted me as a child, he now sits in the closet.

I had a Mexican puppet very similar to one in this picture that I was terrified of as a child. It had a hard plastic face with an evil expression and a leer in it's eye that gave me chills. My Mom was a hoarder, and never threw anything away. When we cleaned out her house to sell, I found that puppet once again, and in all honesty, I still shuddered. The face was brittle and cracked, but it still looked hideous to me. Needless to say, it went in the trash where it should have gone years before.

I've seen better legs on a piano. This is how cat owners teased their cats before the invention of laser pointers.

Feeling in coherent
I stradled my cat with a puppet.
He was calm because he was a drugged pet.
He went to the door
'cause he wanted no more.
Then promptly he peed on the carpet.

Ah, the new tricycle cat model! Hear they make good pets - very patient - but they have trouble with pooping down their back leg.

As for the sixth toe on Matt, hmmm, looks like the back side of a sandal strap to me - you know how they sometime curl up a bit? Yeah, like that.

Okay, I know I've been beating the 'ceramic cat' drum a little too loudly in recent days, BUT ... I'm going off on a multi-day, away-from-the-office event (maybe hunting for ceramic cats, maybe not) ... so y'all won't have to put up with me for a while.

and, just for the record, I think it's: (L-R) Matt [the cat], B.G. [the tiny Mexican], and Puppet [the legs].

feeling, you are very clever! The puppet pictured here will haunt my dreams tonight. If I ever find it in real life, I'm gonna burn that sucker.

1970 - way before the days of CGI-ing out the wire work. That cat must be in his 40's now.

I am wondering what the BG stands for

Black Gato perhaps and why doesn't the puppet have a name?

Chief in no gato casa
The marionette appears to be scared shitless. A state I've been in myself when dealing with cats. Now, no dog, cat, fish, lock the door and go. Nice kitty!!!

hot in the city
That's the strap, but its definitely on the pinkie side and not the "thumb" side. And those are some ugly feet regardless. About to be chewed by an angry cat. I have to disagree with the cankles comment, too (guess I'm disagreeable today) but cankles means there's no delineation between legs and ankles. This guy looks like a Don Martin character (yeah, I really dated myself with one.)
+ August 18, 2009 12:21 PM +

Oops,I meant with that comment; I never dated a Don Martin character.

Hot In The City: I got it, about the Don Martin character. I was a MAD magazine fiend when I was young. Thanks for bringing up the memories.

Thanks, Fooch. I started to think I was the only one, and should maybe return to my knitting ; ).

I dig the Jesus sandals and the reflection of el gato and Pepe in the slider.

i'll be gone in a minute
The gladiator-esque sandals are spectacular. They're back in style now. Or, perhaps not "back". Maybe they were never in, and this guy was a daring trendsetter, going against the flow of the latest fashions.
This looks like a pretty typical night. The cat seems to be used to the harassment.

And I almost peed when I saw the 6th toe.

So, that room looks just like my living room. The sliding glass door, the oddly patterned wood floor, and I'm pretty sure those are the same curtains that were in the place when I moved in (still up, too- I'm in college, I don't throw free things away). The ex-owners of the house had a son who now lives in NJ/NY. No word on if he has/had a 6th toe.

Totally my house.

My dad used a puppet like that to get me to brush my teeth, only the puppet had a gun. It was terrifying. Help, the Mexican marionette is going to shoot me!
