We collect FOUND stuff: love letters, birthday cards, kids' homework,
to-do lists, ticket stubs, poetry on napkins, telephone bills, doodles -
anything that gives a glimpse into someone
else's life. Anything goes...
What a dynamite photo! Love their expressions! What is she holding in her hands? Jacks? I wish we could magnify this one. For some reason, it seems like lunch time at summer camp. Like, science camp or something. Maybe it's Outdoor School.
Are they related?
Also, this is entirely too cute. I wonder what they were talking about. Probably their awesome 8-track or Bob Dylan or about important science laws like Newton's or Boyle's.
Hah.
Lawyers.
olice estimate that, at the time they arrested him, he had over 1500 such photos, not all of them as innocent as this, including almost 200 in which young girls were perfor
Yup, those are jacks. I was in highschool at the time (1976) but I remember jacks made a comeback along with a lot of "old-timey" games like paddleball, hula hoops and other "lost" games. Jacks are not that easy to play if you're a bit uncoordinated. My sister (a highschool senior!) got a little pochette of jacks as a gag gift for Christmas of 76, and went crazy trying to play the game, since she hadn't learned it as a kid. My elder brother, who was "way too cool" for most fun by that time, watched her struggle for awhile, grabbed the ball and rolled his eyes, and said, "Here! Is THIS what you're trying to do?" and showed her how it was done. Never seen a jack before in his life.
FYI: It hurts like hell to step on a jack in your bare feet, even on carpet.
Farmer, thats not very nice now it is?
I think the picture is super cute, I bet they were best friends for the whole summer, I love how the photo SCREAMS 1970s!
aaww, the cuteness of this "almost" makes up for the evilness of the last find.
This is a rare photo of Yasmine Bleeth and Sarah Silverman at Hebrew school.
Those girls in front are like "is that one girl still behind us, the one w/ coooodies?"
Someone go play w/ her!
also, i wasn't good at jacks, but I did play a good round of Marbles!
I could never get the hang of jacks.
So instead, I would spin them on their axis like a top. I'd try to get as many of them going at once as I could.
@atta girl
I would have said Lisa Loeb on the left instead of Yasmine Bleeth, unless this is a photo of Yasmine during a really awkward phase. Plus it looks more like Jewish Day School than Hebrew School.
Not kibitzing, just speaking from experience...
ooohh..makes me miss my girls when they were young...
I was eight in 1976 and I remember the craze for jacks. I was obsessed and took a set with me everywhere. This is a great photo.
@Farmexcellence!!!
My very first glasses looked a lot like those. They weighed in at about 1 lb.
I kinda wish the large lens glasses would come back into style. More room for the bifocal.
I think they are sisters, and I hope one of them spots this picture and writes to the "Hey that's me!" section. I would think it amusing if some stranger found a random photo of me as a child and put it on his/her fridge. I wonder what else the finder has on his/her fridge?
Lawyers, my foot!
Them's librarians!!
Annie and Margaret had just gotten some jacks for Christmas, and they were eager to try them out that day at Jewish Day School. Margaret was holding them trying to figure out how to work them when Annie realized someone was tking her picture and gasped in alarm.
I learned to play jacks in the 60's and the little red rubber balls that came with the jacks were not bouncy enough, so everybody bought small "superballs" to replace the dud jacks balls.
This photo is amazing. I love the girls' expressions. Thanks for sharing, Breezer!
what is that symbol on her necklace, Pi?
No, Mona, it's a Hebrew letter. I think it stands for "L'chaim" (life).
ah. thanks, Orinoco.
@orinoco and mona
The symbol itself is actually called a Chai, it's the combination of 2 Hebrew letters, Het and Yod. It translate to L'Chiam, "to life"
Wow...I did learn something I would use in life at Synagogue. Bobeshi (Grandma) would be proud!
Well, since there isn't a Lamed doesn't it only translate as Chaim [but without the Mem at the end]? Or, simply, "Life".
Or am I being too picky about spelling (as usual)?
Hey man - that was my grade school sweetheart ! LOL man the late 70's - what funky strange times those were. Memories of the skate rink and funky music.
Jacks for *Christmas* for Jewish day school girls, muse?
Jews for Jesus?
It's finds like these that show the true age range of found. It never ceases to amaze me how young of an internet user I really am.
Ah, Jewish day camp..the memories! Those were the days....
Librarian is correct..is it Life..L'Chiam would have an extra Hebrew letter.
My mom graduated high school in '76, but she was the jacks champion in her elementary school years before.
This picture is adorable. The girl on the right looks like she grew up to be a tough broad. The no-nonsense type.
Too funny! I just went to an estate sale, where I purched an old leather bag of jacks. Inside were the original red rubber ball, which is now spongy and weird. There was also an old superball! The jacks are metal. I sat down on the kitchen floor and tried to play... I am really out of practice.
I am afraid to give my girls this set of jacks for fear of foot injury.
I also bought a tool box full of Tinkertoys! I can't wait to get building.
That looks so cool. I wonder what they look like now?!
@Brain problem, I would love to go estate saling with you! For fear of your girls' foot injury or yours? I played often jacks in about 4th grade. Marbles too. The puries were the best! Being rare and all.
Oops. I often played jacks...
Girl on right...that was my exact hairstyle as a 6th grader in 1973.
I hope they followed in their dad's footsteps and became lawyers, too.
A rare live gig by the Langley Schools Music Project.

@ 99.44%: Sorry, can't believe I didn't catch that! I guess I was combining previous comments... Some people said Christmas, I think, but then someone said Jewish Day School. I unthinkingly posted something incredibly stupid.
