This photo was taken back in the days when chubby kids were considered "cute." Round faces, round tummies.
I am blown away by the tall kid on the right's "overall"--but you can see why Mom puts it on over his clothes!
Peter Pan collars, clunky boot-shoes, short trousers, pudding-bowl haircuts...what say you, fellow Foundhounds? 1930's? Check out the...velocipede? in the background. Two front wheels!
The boy in the overall is on the left, Basil. However the kid in the back row right will probably look just like that when he's 50--only taller.
I love the dog!

I think that the person behind the Overall Boy is a girl. If this were taken in the late '20s, or '30s, these kids would be in their 80s or 90s by now...
I grew up in the country and had a dog that looked a lot like this one. He was a collie mix named Mayor, and he did followed me everywhere. He was my playmate, protector and best friend. I bet those kids wanted the dog in the picture with them because he was just like another sibling.
In rural areas in the 30's and 40's, pictures weren't nearly as common as they became later. People with cameras would come by your house and ask if you wanted your family photographed. My family has quite a few of these pictures. The kids weren't dresses up, and sometimes even cleaned up. They also sometimes came by and brought a pony so your child could have it's picture made on a pony -- we have a few of those too.
Lovely nostalgic find. I bet those kids were Mom's pride and joy! Happy Mothers Day!
I'll bet the "velocipede" is actually a pram with another member of this adorably motley crew in it!
This is a quintessential find! I am charmed by how the little boy in the front right is looking at the same thing that the dog is looking at. The boy's expression is just cherubic!
The striped socks mean that this photo is likely taken in the early spring. I love to thinkg of what fun these kids might have cooked up together!

(Couldn't get him to keep his hands out of his pants ... - Was popular at Andy Warhols Factory - Died 1982)
Frances "Hayseed" Pommis (Front Right)
(Said to have an IQ of 235 - quit the show over the nick name Hayseed - walked in front of a bus reading a book 1955)
Carl "Sprouts" Swizzler - (off shot on the bike) The producers felt that Alfalfa and Sprouts might be seen as redundant - so they cut him to save on salary expenditures. Last seen entering a Haight Ashbury Free Clinic - whereabouts unknown.
Marla Wood (back left)
Sounded too much like Darla - Popular years later in stag films under the name Pansy Crickets - Died 1963 from a botched abortion)
Boozer the Mutt (seated) - showed up to rehearal drunk - was constantly mounting Pete the pup - and often heard saying "come on Peter you know you love it." Kicked off studio premises when Lassie refused to work unless he was removed. Died 1947 high altitude chamber.
I love old pictures with dogs in them! These kids are too cute.
The Hansen kids and their dog Sally loved to play outside. Rumors circulated that Jerry (back right) was even immune to poison ivy. "I ate the top three leaves," he would say, "and it made me immune." His sister Trixie wasn't sure if it was a good idea at the time, but later she decided it paid to have an older brother who could roll in poison ivy. They made two dollars off of him one day, and that was enough to buy a lot of things back then.
I usually don't like photo finds, but this one is aMAZing!
I have alot of depression area pics of my family and none of them are as awesome as this one.The dog just looks so regal holding his head high.
This is very cute. The dog, the kids, they look like they were right little mischievous rascals.
What a shame kids aren't like that anymore.
