MIssing Kitty
FOUND by R. Camelo in Soho Square, London, UK
One day I was locking my bike in an back alley off south side of Soho Square and I saw this note in the pavement. I guess it was stuck in a lamppost but fell off. I took from the ground and originally I was thinking to stick it again, but is so funny (think in a pinky five legs kitty!) and beautiful that I decided to keep it. Now i want to share my found why everybody. I think at the bottom it says "HE'S MY BEST FRIEND."
Heloise in a cleaning frenzy
Kitty has some way sick legs. I hope he was found.

I love the mix of desperation, affection, and budding artistry (notice the shadow...what 5 year old thinks of that??)

I hope for the kid's sake she found her cat, and I hope for the cat's sake it wasn't actually pink.

The little kitty has 4 spider legs the middle one is his tail. From being pre-school teacher in a past life have had to interpret little arists' drawings.

I have to disagree Phoebe... the tail is sticking out of the right side of the cats body.

Pink Panther in a twist
I dunno...there's something "off" about this picture. I will grant that the kitty and the house look like a child drew them, but the letters look too adult-like. A child drawing at that level would not be writing in cursive (see "kitty" and "please"). The letters are all written on the same plane--usually kids havent mastered that yet. Some of the letters are too sophisticated for that supposed age too (she "h" in "he's" or "g" in "missing"). It looks like a right-handed adult wrote with his/her left hand to make the writing look child-like. Then added the shadow and the chimney smoke. Why? To add pathos to the picture? or because...this is a fake?

Boy, I tell ya, if there's anything worse than lost ceramic cats, it's lost pink 5-legged cats.

Especially if they've been lost by a guy named Mikey who got sloshed on his friend Ruth's tab.

Happy kitty: 5 legs, huge hole on the center of his body. This kitty would be my best friend, too

I think it's definitely a boy cat. And that 5th leg isn't a leg at all...

Super bored Sarah in my college library.. darn those summer classes
this doesn't look like a handmade drawing- this looks computer made, as if it was made on "paint" or something.
Something's fishy.

@ Super bored Sarah ... I think you could be right. I've got that exact same font installed on my computer. I think it's called "DrunkenFratBoy sans serif".

and ... speaking as a librarian ... Sarah, you're in a library surrounded by books! How in the world could you be bored? (Sigh.)

That's not a shadow. That cat is very proud of the pile of crap it just left for you.

This handwriting is exactly like mine when I broke my good hand and was trying to write a check to cover my bar tab.

Not sure, but it looks more like a marker to me. The coloring in of the kitty and the house at least, bc there are spots where it looks leaky as if they spent too much time or have gone over a spot too much. And other spots that look like the pink marker may have started running out. These effects could be accomplished, but I doubt someone took the time. I will say that some of the lines, like the whiskers and tail, look a little smooth and precise for a marker.

Either way I agree its likely a fake. The kitty being bigger then the house, its akward dimensions, and the frind running over the line are nice touches. However, the fifth leg, the shadow, and the belly button seems to be trying to hard to be convincing. Also, its odd that they had alot of trouble connecting lines accurately on the house, but had no trouble with it on the kitty and was even accurate with their circles. The cursive and the nearly perfect grammar and spelling are the dead giveaways.

No doorknob on the door, either. According to _Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain,_ children almost always put doorknobs on house doors.

yeah, i agree, the grammar seems to be very "adult"....i love how the cat has 5 legs though ;-)

@ another librarian ... maybe there is no door, which is how pink kitty escaped in the first place (there IS a doorknob on the kitty's tummy, though!)

Good book, too. I've read chunks of it, but never followed through with the drawing exercises. Hmmm.

Random in formation
When I was a kid, I always drew cats with way too many legs, often six. I was also a bit of a genius for my age, and my spelling and grammar were excellent for a four-year-old. I often attempted and failed to write in cursive. And I ALWAYS put doorknobs on doors.

Muse on the Loose
Marie, age four, had no friends at her pre-school. Her only joy was coming home to see her kitty Melvin, her only friend. He didn't care that she couldn't count how many legs she had. He didn't even care that she washed him in pink dye, coloring her white fur. But when she drew a black dot on his belly, that was it. Meowing, he ran out the doorway which had no door, and Marie cried and cried. She tried to make posters, but she forgot to include his name or what to do if you found him.

and so forth
I feel like parts of this were definitely done on the computer (the pink coloring, the shadow, and possibly the handwriting). The house and cat's outline are fairly believable, though. I sort of imagine a kid getting their parent to scan their drawing into the computer to make a flier, maybe for some imaginary drama, and dictating the text. It's really difficult to write freehand with those brush tools.
And then they printed a few out and pasted them around the house. Perhaps the pink kitty was a stuffed toy she misplaced.
...ugh.
I just want to belieeeeve.

Why do the tummies on animal drawings (kitties, bears, bunnies, puppies, etc.) so often have a circle with a dot in the middle? I have never seen an animal with a tummy like that.

Awwwww! He's so cute! (and Mona, I think it says HE's not her. There's an apostrophe up there.)

I don't care whether it's fake, done by a kid or a Gr'up, on the computer or with sharpies and mister sketch. this wittle kitty brought me a MUCH needed smile this AM.

Oh, and.. Nightingale and Farmer, LOL. And, OVCOARSE, my favorite Kitty Find (aside from Hello Tacos, and Claude at Dusk that is.):

I think a kid did it, on a computer (in the conservatory, with the candlestick). It could happen! And I read it as "her my best frien" too. The apostrophe is a mistake.

man, i'm pretty convinced that an adult wrote everything. the drawing looks like a legit kid drew it, but the writing is too mature, messy but mature. but! i bet the messy part was on purpose so it LOOKED like a poor child lost her best frien, when really some poor adult lost her best frien. either way, its cute.

I hope someone's already mentioned it, but it bears repeating nonetheless: how fucking hard could it possibly be to track down a five-legged pink cat?

i thought that "belly button" is just a spot on its fur. and if it is real i think it's kind of sad. the kid(?) lost her cat, and hers the kid's(?) best friend.
