We collect FOUND stuff: love letters, birthday cards, kids' homework,
to-do lists, ticket stubs, poetry on napkins, telephone bills, doodles -
anything that gives a glimpse into someone
else's life. Anything goes...
Oh, man. You're killing me, Found gods! All we get today is a boring post-it and this repeat? Granted, it's a good one. But we just had it a couple months ago. You ought to have known -- just ask Edward.
This find looks familiar.. I think I've seen it before. I guess so, since Kermit says so.. Btw Kermit, you seem kinda grumpy. Maybe you'll feel better after a good night's sleep. Good night, sleep tight, and don't let the bed bugs bite!
Kermit, don't let the panty crickets get you either!
Wasn't there some dad's note to his kid recently that sort of sounds like this one?
Anyway, what's your take on the repeated "my mom"? That would be, I'm guessing, in contrast to his dad's new wife, whom he sometimes addresses as "mom" or "my new mom".
...unless, of course, dad married some guy he met on the Internet, in which case the poor kid has to sort out 3 different "dads".
Or is "Vicky" his mom's girlfriend, and the kid has to differentiate "my mom" from "my other mom" from "my mom's wife, whom they also want me to call mom".
'Ozzie and Harriet' wasn't this confusing, was it?
Whether I’ve commented or not, I've been checking in on FOUND nearly every day for 3+ years. When I became a daily visitor, I thought the concept was fresh, and that content was fun and exciting...Now, not so much.
Today, we have a two toned note that says "I think you're sexy" (blah) and a repeat of a find that was posted last New Year’s Eve, 12/31/08 -- less than 6 months ago!(WTF?) Have the submissions declined to the extent that the website is out of new material? I can't imagine that to be true. I have sent in 3 finds that I feel confident would inspire more comments and were more thought provoking than what we've been given today...
It makes me feel like we, the visitors are being underestimated, or maybe I should say unappreciated. We've been loyal to the site, bought the books...I've even been to see Davy live once. But the times I find myself giggling and the site and itching to comment are becoming less and less frequent. I've watched tons of great posters come and go, and some have even said they have grown bored of shopping list and bad parking notes. Just because something is found, does not automatically make it a great find.
I think it's time, FOUND gods, that you reassess what you want to accomplish with this site, and get it back to good. The least you can do is take precautions not to repeat yourself. I think those of us who know and love FOUND deserve more than that.
Where is Robert Keim when you need him?
Dear World,
I blame you, yes you, your trash is boring, cliche, and unoriginal. Please, always remember, whenever you make a list or go shopping or jot down a note or snap a pic of your dorky amigos, we are watching--entertain us.
Your BFF,
terrieissovery
PS-XOXOXO
So true, Clover! I have awoken in a much better mood. Although I do agree with what Cotton put much more eloquently than I did. I also agree with Librarian's take. I agree with everyone! Your sexy!
So happy the apostrophe is included!
Hoots, hollars, stomps feet, waves arms, lights lighters, opens cell phone, shoots off fireworks, jumps up and down, whistles with fingers in mouth - all in agreement with Cotton, the voice of Dixieland and a whole lot of the rest of the world. Thank you for the classiest of letters of protest.
Thanks Freonz...
I love it here, and consider this one on my "homes" on the internet...
...but lately it feels like Ma and Pa are ignoring their kids!
BTW Kermit...you're sexy too!!
@Cotton - Thanks for saying what I was too bored to take the time to say ; )
I agree with Cotton and especially Terrie-is-so-very.

Sam had just found out who his real father was, and he wanted to send a letter. He wrote a brief note to his new-found dad about his family.
Poor kid - too many people to keep track of! I think Mario is his mom's new "friend" who still lives with his girlfriend Vicky. And Edward is his older brother - 14 and in that brooding, moody phase teenagers live through for 5 years. Man, his life sucks!
Websites are like television shows. Oftentimes they get stale and run out of good material after a while. But frankly, since the site is free, the folks who run it down "owe" us anything. Either they'll keep it fresh and keep people coming or they'll keep crapping out and the site will lose visitors and die. C'est la vie.
Kermit, I'm glad you're feeling better.. I usually find two main things that help with grumpiness in the people and animals I live with: sleep or food. (Probably true for myself as well. Even though clover shouldn't have to worry about such things as basic needs for humans and frogs.)
.. to jump in with another opinion, I think that as far as interesting finds go, my opinion is that the value of the find is in the mind of the beholder. It's all about the imagination, the filling in the blanks, and the other viewers' filling-of-the-blanks. It's all ART. Some art speaks more than other art. And sometimes we are more in a mood to accept what art has to say. Sometimes we just don't get it. Sometimes what it doesn't say is better than what it might say. Just sayin'.
And everyone probably knows this, but, Davy and Peter are right now on a grueling schedule, touring the states and sharing finds and meeting finders and finder fans. Every day a different city. Wheels falling off vans. Flying on planes. Drinking beer. I think it's a bit much to expect them to be full-time entertainers for all who eagerly await the next found gem on the website.
Davy said to me a couple of days ago that this is collaborative art. We are all part of it. Whatever we make of it is what it is.
If you're bored today, you could go outside and find something, send it in and maybe it will show up here two years later.
I will never get tired of this website.
Some Finds are good and some are lame. Some are even reposted accidentally. There are a couple of human beings (not Gods) behind the scenes bringing this to us everyday. Not a big panel of editors, not even Davy himself.
In my opinion, the reason the comments have fallen off is because there are few original thoughts coming from us. And very little appreciation for the great comments that are made. Too many are making their own observations and ignoring everyone else. There’s no sense of community anymore. This is a collaborative effort, as Clover stated, but everybody’s out to get their ego stroked and getting bored and grumpy when it doesn’t happen.
I found it funny to re-read the comments from the 12/31/08 original posting of this Find (thanks Cotton). It was titled “She is Never Happy”, which is ironic. There were some great comments that day including posts from Clover, Kermit, Cotton (remember your rainbow farting unicorn?), and Flargy, among others. But today everyone’s in a different mood.
Compared to some of yooz, I am fairly new to Found. My two-cents:
I love this site. This is the first place I go to every morning and it isn't the finds that make it great (although some are really good). I look forward to the comments.....ohmygosh! The wittiest group of folks I have come across n the Internet (even better than the Onion).
So, some finds may seem lame to me, but you all make it interesting (wiping eyes.
I love ya, man
@Fooch: how was the wedding?
Yes, fooch, ditto. And Nightingale too, what you said. Ditto ditto.
Found is fun, and like all fun times, work and other stuff gets in the way and makes me disappear for awhile. It's a bummer and I always miss it, mainly the clever thoughts and funny stuff that make me burst out laughing!
Also, I miss the comments of some people who used to be here, who i haven't seen for a year or more. But maybe they've been back when I've not been here. Maybe they have different names and I don't recognize them.
Does anybody besides me go backwards to catch up on missed days and comments, sometimes a week or two later?
Did you SEE that? Puckhog! PUCKHOG!! Puckhot was here!
I know..what happened to Pastor Z?????
Cotton, one thing you must understand if you feel like Ma and Pa have abandoned you or are ignoring you is that the Found Folk ALL have other projects going on, too.
(actually Jason once used the phrase, "absentee landlord," rather than neglegtful parents...)
As for the Find being a repeat, John Bender said it best a while back: "Screws fall out all the time. The world is an imperfect place." (and then I think he said, FUCK YOU!!!")
I shall not opine on the found note. I found the found book at my local noisy library. I found it to be poignant, refreshing and in some places sad, . That led me to this website. Some of the commentary causes belly aches from laughter. I put a note in the found book and perhaps it will be found here. Tomorrow is another day, we may find it entertaining.
Night in gale: thanks for asking. The wedding was amazing.
one down, three to go...
PSHHHSSSTTTT... summer reruns...
