We collect FOUND stuff: love letters, birthday cards, kids' homework,
to-do lists, ticket stubs, poetry on napkins, telephone bills, doodles -
anything that gives a glimpse into someone
else's life. Anything goes...

My love is always greater than 3, but it gets me in trouble in most states.
Someone may be in love, but someone also may be simply bored off their face and can only draw hearts. The profusion would take a class period to fill in, and they would look nicely busy, as if they were taking notes. I used to doodle 5-pointed stars because they were easy to draw.
At first I thought the large <3 was a broken heart in the middle of all the other whole hearts.
My other first thought was: could be love, could be boredom.

i do this on a minor scale, when im bored in class.
Before Madonna went up for kabbalistic sainthood, she kept track of her boyfriends on this very sheet of notebooks paper (being very careful to keep within the margins, mind you!).

Denise and Katie were having a heart-drawing war. It had started when Denise took her black pen and started doodling hearts on her notebook paper (their history teacher was really boring). Then Katie, with er blue pen, started drawing hearts at the other end. It turned into a battle to see who could draw more hearts. Denise wasn't playing fair because she kept crossing over to Katie's side.

Like most love affairs end this one started out with the hearts black and blue.
Not someone in love. I agree with Cotton that the beloved's name would have been used. Just someone bored out of their mind in class, like I used to be. I filled up notebook pages with this doodle shit too. Mostly flowers and spirals though.
This must be notes from a Family and Life Skills Class.

Great find. It reminds me of the summer between 7th and 8th grade... I filled an entire notebook with lines and lines of "I love Sam". I kept a tally of how many times I wrote it on each page. My excuse was that I was grounded for a month and had nothing better to do.
I do this when I'm bored in class, so everyone reading this comment can probably guess I'm a teenager too haha.
not to be crass, but i have always found <3 to be more phallic than heart-like...so, i would call this pornography "a love of penis."
then again, maybe that's just me? and who am i kidding? i'm always crass.

It's a heart emoticon. Turn your head to the side and it makes a heart. It indicates love when used in chat.
Trust me, I've been using that thing for 5 years and was really really close to getting it as a tattoo.
And Sam, yeah, I've thought it at times too, but they have much better phallic emoticons out there.
