We collect FOUND stuff: love letters, birthday cards, kids' homework,
to-do lists, ticket stubs, poetry on napkins, telephone bills, doodles -
anything that gives a glimpse into someone
else's life. Anything goes...
Fortunatus and Beulah Johnson on the left and Hyram and Lilian Miller on the right. Fortunatus and Beulah owner most of the cotton farm land in the area. Hyram and Lilian owned the cotton gin. Pretty sweet set up if you can get in on it.
Too bad Lilian got drunk one night and colored in Hyram's tie with a ball point pen.
Folks did odd things back in the days when the world was black and white.
I'm so glad you didn't throw them away!
Looks like the male on the far left had borrowed the suit especially for this picture and had never worn one before. I always dream of living back in the "good old days" then realize it really wasn't like "Little House on the Prairie" like I imagine.
wow.. out of all the finds THIS was the best one? lame, seriously..
Respect, ladies. That long skirt weighed a ton.
Where I live, summer temps reach over 45ÂșC normally. This is the first year we have AC in our apartment. In the past when I was feeling sorry for myself, I would remember ladies of the past who dressed like this: long skirts and sleeves, high necks, and corsets. And didn't have so much as an electric fan to sit in front of. Let alone refrigeration or ice for their drinks. Imagine drinking tepid water on a hot day!
Looks like our excursion ladies here aren't wearing corsets, which is all to the good. Nobody should have to.
These folks are coming out of the woods to collect a pound of flesh. The two in the middle are obviously hiding something behind their backs and the missus looks pissed!
I learned to love to read with "Little House" books. Having to dress like that and work so hard for so little...I'll stick with now, no matter how imperfect.
phonse Walker, Demeter Swinson, Ralph Gould, Mathilde Aubergenoise, "Twitch" Auger, Conan Delanty, Katarina Frey, Millicent Faraday, Stellina D'Ambrosia, Delbert Lavl
The women look like they could be twins.
"Lizzie Borden took an axe and gave her mother 40 whacks and when she saw wheat she had done, she gave her father 41....."
What's behind her back? An AXE!!!!
The second from the left is HOT!
The hills have eyes.
Second from the left is Laura Palmer's mother!!!
did somebody color in his tie? I have pictures like this of my real family members. One of them is of my great great great grandmother, Solina, she looks to be about a thousand, you think this photo is scary?
If I remember correctly from the movie "Pleasantville," when color starts coming into a black-and-white world the color isn't the only thing that's coming, if you know what I mean.
The two women are twins, Janet and Elizabeth. Janet, the one on the left, married a young farm boy who had no experience in high society. He always looked awkward when he wore a suit. Elizabeth's husband, an old, rich widower, was always trying to teach him etiquette. Elizabeth always said Janet should have married a rich man like her, but Janet preferred to color in the ties of rich men in photos.
When I look at this picture...
"I see dead people."
I can't believe no one has said that!
Reminds me of the movie "The Others."
So dang creepy. How they are standing so far apart & not touching or smiling. *shivers* I totally bet the photographer was just taking a picture of where he's going to build a house for his new family, and when developed, these four creepy ghosts were included on his new land. His thoughts "great, just more mouths to feed!"
It looks like there is a ghost of a kid or someone standing behind the lady ( on the right next to the guy with the striped tie) with the dark bow...creepy!
i wish i could see the rest of them!!
I totally read the comment about the ghost and then looked at the picture and got chills. Really freaked out right now.
WOW! I SEE THE GHOST! Call the Ghost Hunters! (SyFy Channel, 9pm Eastern Time).
EEEK. I can totally see that one ghost now. *pees self* The four people in the pic can't stand by each other or touch b/c they will over lap.. Being ghosts you just float right thru any object. I suppose anyways..
Circa 1900, when men and women were not allowed to be photographed touching each other.
I think this is one of those things where you stick your face through the wall and they take a picture of you...
Two generations!
Husband and wife to the right, their daughter to the left of them with her new husband.Apart from the ghost on the right side, there is also a building on the left, the mansion where they work?
Next!
I submitted this one. The picture is gassy and that's probably why the tie looks blue. The "ghost" is a fence that is falling down and a tree above it with light shining through the branches. And no this wasn't the best find. I submitted three that day. A cool young dude on a top-of-the-line buggy with a horse, and my favorite...a thousand year old woman that looks like Granny from The Beverly Hillbillies, just many decades older, sitting in a tiny chair knitting with the gnarliest hands you can imagine. Maybe they will show up someday.
