Do Not Forget This
FOUND by Joshua Fruhlinger in Baltimore, Maryland
I got this five-dollar bill as change at a Japanese restaurant up the street, and was intrigued by the note at the bottom.

Wait...What was I supposed to remember?
Oh yeah....Freemasons. I found that you get much better masonry work if you use masons that charge money.

Sounds like someone saw The Davinci Code. I love when people write on money, and this is an especially cool note to put on money.

The writer of this little note is pretty vague and non committal- I can't figure out if America being a nation founded on Masonic values is a good thing or a bad thing in this person's view.

George Washington in your wallet
Actually, America WAS founded on Masonic values. Our founding fathers, such as George Washington and Benjamin Franklin, to name a few, were Masons. I'm sorry to get on my soap box here, but true Mason's are famously tolerant of relgious freedom. So to you judgemental bitches out there (hotmom), cool it, and thank your lucky stars (and stripes) for the Mason philosophy.

Beeswax in the cupboard, next to the good china plates
I used to collect interesting money with writing, stamps and so on, on them. My favorite was a dollar bill with a bullet hole through George Washington's forehead with the blazend message "Thelma and Lousie Live!" scrawled on it in sharpie. But times got tough and I needed them for beer money, so my collection is floating around somewhere. I wouldn't mind finding some interesting money again and re-starting my collection.

Beeswax , I collect interesting money too . My favorite is a $2.00 bill printed in red ink .( not the picture , just the writing . ) Has anybody found any "Where's George ? " dollars ? I like those .
George Bush doesn't have any values .He's vacant .
Thanks for the info , GW in your wallet , I've wondered about that .

It weird... but when you really look around, not only are there a lot of masonic halls, you find that you know a lot of people who are members. And hey, if you're in post-secondary school you should look them up, they give out scholarships!

Looks like someone just finished reading/watching the Da Vinci code. Either that, or National Treasure. Conspiracy Theorists live!
PS George Washington: calling someone else judgemental is in fact being judgemental yourself, as you are judging their view of things. She has a right to believe the Masons are bad if she wants to.

Beth, you're right I was being judgemental. There is a running joke on Found about judgemental bitches. However, Hotmom was showing her ignorance (as she often does) and she needed to be put in her place. I know there has been alot controversy with the Masons because of their secrecy and "exclusive" memberships, but they are a community service organization and one should not fault them for that.

Dead princess, to answer your question about Masonic values. They focus on tolerance of all kinds, charity, honesty, loyalty. All the things the basic, say christian would value, but a certain God is not specified, kind of like AA. To be honest it more like a fraternity. There is a lot of networking with a focus on comminity service (Shriners Hospital for instance) as a front.

Jonathan in London WC2 quite near a big Masonic temple...
...where I once went to a performance of the Magic Flute (which was great) -- it was a spooky building -- in the gents' toilets there was a sign saying 'PLEASE ADJUST YOUR REGALIA BEFORE LEAVING'. True, tee hee. I wish I had a photo of that sign. (Oops, have I just revealed a Masonic secret?) You certainly (if you're a man) get some strange handshakes from the most unlikely people (I don't mean in the gents' toilets).

Jonathan - Perhaps Sen Craig was just performing some secret masonic handshake in that bathroom stall. That would explain a lot.

Beth in the standing position upon her soapbox
Hey, George Washington, I was wondering if you Masonically affiliated yourself. You seem rather educated and moderately tolerant....if you aren't I can't help but recommend it. You did seem to lose your temper a bit with "hot mom", but I suppose I can understand your position (though not condone it). You are in fact right about our founding fathers, as well as many great people through history. In fact, Freemasonry is still very active, and continues to promote forward thinking, devotion to the supreme, and, above all, service to others. Freemasonry spans the vast expanse of this nation, across the shining seas to countries all across our beautiful planet. I do hope that the writer of this piece was not intending malice against Freemasons. If they were, they, like "hot mom" (as well as some others who have commented in this space) are in desperate need of some education to rid themselves of their ignorance and suspicion (perhaps just a little education about Freemasonry is all they need). They may also want to look into some respect for the feelings and beliefs of others. I happen to be in two Masonic organizations myself - and I can say that every day of my life has great meaning and purpose because of it, and I cannot possibly express the pain it gives me to have people openly attack something I love so much. To put you in my shoes, "hot mom" (and others), how would you feel if somebody attacked you for something that important to you? Your family, for example? I admonish you to think about what you say before you say it. Especially in a medium as permanent as writing in a plane as public as the internet. You could be hurting even quite a few people. Please and thank you.

Beth in a quick addition to her soapbox lecture
I just noticed something, Georgie, you claim Masonry is "secret". If you are truly supportive of Freemasonry, you would stop saying that, since it has a tendency to breed distrust and suspicion. We are NOT "secret". Fun fact: You can actually get access to much of our traditional lectures in local libraries if you know where to look! If you would like further info, feel free to make the effort to educate yourself, or even contact a local temple...I personally don't mind explaining Masonry to people (it certainly beats a haze of ignonance).

Masons are a cult, just like the Mormons. They let you see only what they want you to see. That which makes them look good, and continue their 'secret agenda' in the depths of 'the temples'.
"Beth" I doubt a female is a true member of the Masons.
+ September 03, 2007 12:44 PM +
Beth in a run against the wind
Masons are not a cult. I cannot force you to see the light past your dark shadow of ignorance any more than I can make a horse drink against its will. We have no "secret agendas", we do service, and if you cannot believe that people are in the world doing good for the sake of doing good, then I pity you for the life you lead. And, for your information, there are many Masonic organizations that do include women (and women can be Masons in France).

PS ~ Georgie, I was not having a "temper tantrum", but thank you for your concern. I do not recall throwing my body onto the floor at any point yesterday evening. As petty as most of the commentary upon this site it, I felt obliged to try and clear up the confusion. I can only do so much with such a limited canvas (and limited minds). Perhaps my emotional and satirical writing style left you with the impression that I savor in taking cheap shots at people, I have always felt that a sharp, projective style can engage readers. Oh, and "worthy advisor 'mother'"....fantastic title. You nearly broght laughter to me with whatever you attempted to imply.

Beth, sarcasm is a form of anger and you are dripping with it. Therefore, I can only derived from it that you are an unhappy person. (Worthy "Mother" Advisor) I assume you are Evening Star. I have a question if you can answer without being indignant. What are Illuminatus books. P.S. I am not your enemy, but since this is the internet and I'll never personaly know you I tend to (and so do you) be more straight forward (rude) than I normally would. I like the Mason and think they are a great organization.

Beth is probably the wife of a freemason, and the extent of her involvement is baking cookies and mending capes for her husband and his brotherhood.
Beth what would your husband say if he found you were on here? Hmmmm?
I don't think any "real" members of any private group would even bother defending their values or their agenda because if they did they would not be "private" or "secret" any longer.
