Who Told You I Was a Bedbug?
FOUND by Leigh in New York City, NY
I found this in my NY Public Library Book. The book was the Complete Candida Yeast Guidebook - which might make it more creepy. I thought one of my coworkers had drawn it and stuck it in the book because we have conversations about how scary bedbugs are sometimes.
Camelia in still here

Leigh!? You can't suggest something is creepy when you've admitted that your latest choice of reading matter, from an entire library's worth of titles, is "The Complete Candida Yeast Guidebook", and you work amongst people who you suspect also find it a compelling must-read!

Coyote in the porch swing
I'm confused here...

is the writer concerned that people think they are a bed bug or that they've found out

apparently it's causing a lot of resentment

either way, that is a fabulous illustration!

i've never seen a more accurate rendition of Acheta underpantsica (Eastern Capped Panty Cricket)

Top Notch comments, kids. Few but precious and rare. Thank you! (especially Cameila for saying it first, and Coyote for the binomial nomenclature! LOL)

HPD: why WOULDN'T they?

The bedbug, or "Summer Complaint" as it is popularly known on the Eastern Seaboard, is closely related to the Couch Potato. Some entymologists claim that the Bedbug is indeed the pupal form of the Couch Potato; however this has yet to be established. Other sources say that the connection is spurious and due to faulty taxonomy.

Camelia - Lost in the Found Zone again...
@ Coyote – WOW!! Genus AND species – and the common name too! I’m overwhelmed with your outstanding scientific knowledge!
@ HPD in SPM – Apparently they do (see genus & species, listed above)… and they also seem to have spectacles!!
---> @ Coyote – are they all ‘vision challenged’? Or is this a specimen from the sub-species Bluz Brotherus, as suggested ??

Camelia in {Ibid.} (I bid?}
And....
@ Bored – thanks (*blush*)
@ BabyB – Here on MY coast (the left one), we have some icky insects that are commonly known as “potato bugs”. I looked them up and they are actually “Jerusalem crickets”. They grow to almost 3 inches & they’re icky!!
Maybe another pupal formation of the Couch Potato?

Miss Scarlet in in the Study with a Revolver
That is no bedbug. That is a masked sheep. A mutated one with six legs. Don't ask me how I know this.

The idea of bedbugs makes me nauseous. However, I do love grabbing Japanese beetles from my fruit trees and drowning them in sudsy water. Things even out.

sick in tired
Not so long ago, no one would have admitted to knowing what bedbugs were, much less having them. And yet lately I have seen discussions of the critters all over the internet. I always thought of them as sort of 18th-century, pre-hygienic standards sort of creatures.

I would appear to be mistaken.
