We collect FOUND stuff: love letters, birthday cards, kids' homework,
to-do lists, ticket stubs, poetry on napkins, telephone bills, doodles -
anything that gives a glimpse into someone
else's life. Anything goes...
My cynical side wants to say something mean about Toronto, but I can't come up with anything. It's too damn nice.
am i the only one who sees TTC and thinks "trying to concieve"?
what an ungrateful bitch... get a job. free loader
When I rolled her over to assess the situation, an empty wine bottle rolled from her side and off the platform. No way was I giving mouth to mouth .
Good Lord...I'm petty easy going most of the time and realise the misspelling of this not and just kinda wish poeple would be a little kinder.
And really, I think this is very nice. It's hard to thank strangers that have helped you. I hope Mary is okay now.
Poster number 3 needs a time out. I realise it's Monday, but get a grip.
It's a nice note and very thoughtful. Gratitude and kindness are necessary things in life. We need as much positive reinforcement as we can get. Obviously "in the background" hasn't had enough in their life.
Once again we must ask how the intended recipients of this kind note will be able to read it when someone took it off the wall for our enjoyment?
Geek, I was thinking the same
AND
Well, I can't help thinking about those who helped Mary, who were just passing through the St. Clair platform.
No notes for them.
As I read this find, a song popped in my head from my new favorite music group. Calling All Angels from the Wailin Jennys.
Sweet!
Thank you to the kind passengers
and attendants who assisted my
wife when she went into labor
on the way to the manger out back.
Thank you again for your kindness
and support and all the gifts -
they smell really good - but really
gold was too much! We will put it
into a fund to get him some nice
robes to replace the swaddling clothes.
Bless you all!
Joseph
I think Mary had a good idea, to post the sign. I hope she posted numerous copies so that the one the finder took won't be missed. People pass out for lots of reasons other than drugs and alcohol. At first I didn't think about the location and I was thinking, I hope she gets the medical care she needs. After watching that movie on Bill Moyer this week about the American insurance and health care system, it makes me think. So much suffering, and then add the burden of financial ruin to the family after you die. But hey, she was in Canada, so of course she got health care! That's a relief.
I know this will sound crazy, but I think this note might be from my grandmother! She is a fiercely independent 84 year old woman - born and raised in London, came to Canada as a war bride. Takes the bus and subway all over town, and lives near that station. Over the past year or so she was having problems with her heart and would get sudden dizzy spells. The doctors changed her medication and all seems to be well now.
Spill the wine, dig that girl! Cocaine is a powerful drug.
Hurray for random acts of kindness!
I agree about the note not being there anymore.. I bet Mary just posted it there on a wall about 15 seconds before the finder walks past.. Poor Mary taped the sign up and thought "today I hope all that helped me notices this find *smiles* " then this guy walks up and tears it down, not even leaving the tape on the wall that was holding it up there. Now those people who saved Mary are thinking "WTH, last time we help her or anyone else!" poooo
hahahah, I was reading through these and then was reading the last entry here and thought "wow that sounds just like what i said" then i realized it was what i wrote b/c it was my entry.. D'oh!!! *hides under desk*
p.s. Thank you for not kicking me onto the third rail.
i apologize herb garden. whilst it is your monday morning, it was my friday night, and everyone knows friday night is the ideal time for brutal, unmitigated sarcasm at the expense of the kind-hearted, defenseless elderly.
and, as you had mentioned, it is a very sweet note. i, myself, had to write a such a note when i fell last week in front of a pub and acquired a mean concussion. thanks again to all the police and paramedics for helping me off the ground against my will.
That is why Toronto is so great.
the blurring at the right makes me think that the Finder took and submitted a photo of the sign, rather than taking the sign and scanning or seinding it in. The Finder didn't say he took it.. just that it caught his eye.
I think this is as good a place as any to post a thank you note to helpful strangers.
(Happy birthday, Midlife Crisis!)
Yeah... highly doubtful this was due to drugs/alcohol. She probably wouldn't have posted a "thank you" if it was.
I've passed out twice - and don't drink/smoke/do any drugs... it's very confusing afterwards. I feel for the woman.
People, stop taking signs down!!!!
So Mary is the reason my train to St. Clair was delayed on the 27th. Ah-ha!
