If Not Claimed, Will Bury
FOUND by Jenn Carter in back alley
I found this while walking my tiny dog. I waited a few days to ensure the viewing windowing had closed and snagged it. It was slid into one of those plastic sheet protectors for three ring binders and nailed to a telephone pole.

I live in a city with strict ordinances about not burying animals. You're supposed to hand them in to your vet, and they charge a considerable amount to take care of the remains for you (incineration). You're not offered the ashes or anything, it's strictly a sanitary measure. Aside from the fact that most pets here, particularly cats, recieve little or no vet attention, people don't want to pay...so sadly, a lot of dead pets end up wrapped in carrier bags and placed in dumpsters.
At least the finder of the kitty tried.

This made me sad, too...and then this morning out in the car I saw a kitty struck down in our town's busiest intersection. He couldn't move and was in pain, the person who hit him didn't even try to brake. I can only hope that another idiot finished the job quickly, so that the cat didn't lie there in the full sun suffering.

Not a happy day for felines or those that love them.

This is a very compassionate note - obviously someone believes in closure after a loved one (even a pet) passes away. There are so many mysteries and unanswered questions in the world, it's refreshing to see someone trying his best to allow one mystery to be answered before taking care of the situation. Would that we'd all be so empathetic to each others' situations.

are you f'n kidd in g me?
@ orinoco- you saw a cat in pain and suffering and all you could do was hope someone else ran it over again? Why, because you had to hurry home to your computer?

This is really sweet.

I can't tell you how many times I've stopped to pick up injured animals on the road to rehabilitate them. They usually end of dying, but at least they are able to be at peace for their last hours. We did have a black bird that we rescued that lived. He was awesome. Oh, and the turtle. He wasn't injured, just about to get hit.

I'm proud of the note writer for their compassion.

I'm glad someone posted this. I know if my cat got lost, it would kill me not knowing what happened to it, even if what happened was the worst.

This was very kind of whoever found the kitty and I hope the owner found the note.

As for the person who listed the receipe your email should be deleted from this site - you are trying to be cute, but you are one sick person!!

Very sad. Sarcastic comments really not appreciated -- have you no soul, you people? Or no cats??

It was considerate of the note writer to say 'lifeless' rather than just 'dead'.

I wonder if anyone did ring.

The previous owners of my house had buried a cat in the garden shortly before I moved in. It was nice to think he was gaining a bit of immortality by helping my roses to grow.

life is harsh, people -- dark humor makes it more palatable for some of us.

if it's too much to handle, the internet is probably not the place for a delicate soul such as yourself...

(and i love my cat, thx)

always watch in g from the sidelines, couldn't help the rant
i lost my cat, ogden, & he was orange & white - so this struck me, though he wore no bell....i agree with {R in k-adink-a-dink]to this day i have no idea what happened to him....i put up missing signs & everything....i love that there are still some people in the world sweet enough to consider someone's pain even though they are strangers and to make the effort.

as for all the crybaby's on here bitchin' at others' comments....go somewhere else. this is a place of wonder and curiosity and joking and story telling. you're inability to see that and take these comments for what they are (an open forum of FUN! ya, baby) then bugger off!

k, i'll try to quiet down now....love you guys...

This is a nice note to leave. Hopefully the finder of lifeless kitten did not run over said kitten, thus inducing the lifelessness.

About burying, my former childhood home has several cats buried in the backyard. It might be against ordinances but who is going to know? Of course they make an ordinance against it so that you have to pay an exorbitant fee to have it "taken care of." Because nature wouldn't do the same job on its own. Someone has to make money somewhere.

I guess I'm not the only one with the Roadkill Cookbook.

I don't want to know what people would think if my yard was ever excavated.

And please tell me why people put collars on animals and don't put contact info on the tag. Isn't that a main purpose of a collar?
+ September 08, 2009 03:47 PM +

main purpose of a collar is restraint while on leash.

i hope they got closure with their cat before the viewing windowing closed.

and no crybabies on found.

Clearly they forgot the leash on this cat. Ooh, or maybe it was LED to it's death...

These comments are hilarious :)

I laughed so hard when I read the photo description as I thought he was talking about snagging the dead cat, and not the leaflet. I thought it was unusually cruel to slide a dead cat into a plastic sheet protector and nail it to a pole.

FYI I put a collar on my cats so that people know that they are actually owned (as there are quite a few strays in my area), and to hold a bell to make it harder to catch birds. I don't need contact information on the collar as they are microchipped.

WTF? Not the note writer - very sweet and very sad note...

but these people who see any animal hit and unable to move, and just keep on driving - "places to be, people, I'm kind of a big deal, no time to show any compassion..."

I've several times taken horribly hurt animals to the vet to be put down because assholes like these can't slow the fuck down or deal with the death and suffering they cause or witness...

a little angry - sorry!
