We collect FOUND stuff: love letters, birthday cards, kids' homework,
to-do lists, ticket stubs, poetry on napkins, telephone bills, doodles -
anything that gives a glimpse into someone
else's life. Anything goes...
Garfield first appeared in 1978 so this should be early 80’s. I can imagine the noise in the room. These guys should be 30+ by now so how about ‘Hey, that’s me!’?
Hmmmm..."crop here." Is this boy the new posterchild for the Got Milk? campaign?
Perhaps they put the "crop here" to cut out the one little boy who isn't raving about his lunch and the kid in the batman t-shirt who was sucking his milk up a straw jammed in his nose...
They shouldn't have cropped the photo. This was the only day that Jason got to sit with other kids in the cafeteria, and it should have been memorialized in the yearbook (even if it showed that the other kids had dumped their trach on Jason's tray before he got a bite to eat). Sitting with the other kids was the highlight of Jason's school year.
The kid with the "crop" take on his face looks like he's going to cry.
Why in Africa does Robert Keim get his finds posted and I can't even get one?
Which one of these kid's is "Soy Sauce."
~I'm glad you people think a Robert Keim's Found postings are so hysterically funny.~
I'm sure there are plenty of us Found posters who've posted things that have never made it in, out here who find such pathetic attempts at humor to be boorish, appalling, and in extremely bad taste.
Really, Fooch, you can be quite hysterical at times, but you really should drop the complaints about not getting things posted on Found, just because Robert Keim does all teh time, from your routine.
What was on the lunchroom menu that day? Crack? These kids look a little too happy to be eating cafeteria (or Garfield lunch box) food.
off topic
Found staff fixed Jason's crying post to show the swearing -

Those last three kids at the end of the row....looks like the one in the middle has just squeezed one off. Ah, kids....
Aw, this must have been taken back when kids were cute.
Seriously, I dig the plastic lunchboxes--I still had a metal one (Pigs in Space, my sister had the Bee Gees)--when all the other kids were getting plastic ones.
aaaahahahahaha! Thanks, HPD!! soo much funnier now. Poor Jason.
@HPD ... Thanks. I went back and read the rest of that Find. And I think that nails it: the kid in this photo who is wearing the striped shirt and is getting cropped out - definitely Jason. Bullies would pick on a quiet loner like him. Probably called him over to sit amongst them and then talked about him as if he weren't even there.
x
Except for little Shannon's owl glasses and the lunchbox, this picture is a timeless classic. Love it! Thanks, Mr. Keim.
The in the front is ADORABLE!!
*girl
I just think those kids have got to have the messiest hands! Ick.
"Crop here." So many other kids in this photo would also make a lively subject for a unique photo.
Turnip, the glasses are definitely 80's, like the American Apparel girl wears. Maybe that's the American Apparel girl before she grew up. But wait, no. I guess these kids are probably about 30 years old now; that's too old to be a model for American Apparel I think.
I LOVE Robert Keim's photo finds! This year I got a new job and inherited an art room and an old photo lab at our high school and haven't found a single good find in it anywhere. Very disappointing.
Why in the world would they want to crop and use the obnoxious boy drinking milk when the little girl in front is the cutest thing of all time? Awww, she's precious with her little Garfield lunch box and big glasses. Her cuteness shines thru in spite of those awful glasses. Wonder what she looks like now...
I had that Dorothy Hammil haircut in the late 70's. It didn't look good on anyone, unless you were drop-dead gorgeous like Dorothy Hammil.
I think I went to library school with the girl in the glasses.
Robert Keim, I love you! I have a couple of questions: was that "crop here" label made of tape that you could have peeled off? And was there any indication what year this was from? Thanks for sharing all of your cool photo Finds!
Left to right: girls in front are Curious Kat, Cherry O'Pepsi, and Clover.
The row of boys are (l-r) Flargy, Ian in Edinburgh, Midlife Crisis, Jonathan, Turbo, and Alan goes "pting".
At the next table is Robert Keim (laughing behind Flargy) and way in the back are me and Mona Lisa. And you just know there's a Chrome Toaster in the cosmic cafeteria kitchen. That would be a really fun lunch!
Yeah you bet, Nightie. Spot on! 'Cept my lunch box woulda had Peter Pan on it.
I was at the nurse's office, having a lay-down, because the MSG in the school lunch gave me a whopper migraine...
That's Puckhog in the Batman tee shirt. I remember cuz I had the BIGGEST crush on him! (he always wore that shirt!)
(thanks for the giggles this AM, Nightingale! too cute.)
The little girl with glasses looks like she's foreseeing a future of text messaging. A friend of mine, while telling a tale of texting, will "air text" on her invisible cell phone as she tells what the messages said. It's a little weird. (I think lots of people do that these days. Also "air typing" when recounting an email dialog. Brave new world we live in.)
Night in gale:
it is some sort of tape, but I didn't want to destroy the picture or the interestingness that it seemed to add to the find. There is no indicator of date on this or any of the photos I've found recently, outside of the subjects and their clothes.
Too funny, Cherry. I thought of Puckhog after I posted. That's definitely him!
Thanks for replying Robert. I thought maybe there might be a year on the box or something. (And I really just wanted to see the face on Batman boy!) This is a new favorite for me.
It's a new favorite for me, too.. but what could I possibly boot off my faves to make room? (Dear Found Gods, please increase our favorites allotment to... 20? Too much good stuff! xoxoxo Cherry O')
(okay. I deleted Moo Hoo Ha Ha to make room for the Lunchroom Gang.)
Ha ha ha, Life in North! Cute Glasses Girl is totally a future texter. Awesome call.
The little with the glasses looks exactly like the little girl in the movie Hope Floats.
Love this photo. Wish I had a BeeGees lunchbox.
Julse! Where you been?
I just had to say.. since I haven't seen you around much, I wandered over to your profile.. and from there visited your faved Find, "I Need a Nap"
Oh MY-- that Find! I'd forgotten all about it. Hilarious! The comments! Hysterical! Too bad all the links to the updated house pics are broken.
The little girl with the glasses looks like a young Janeane Garofalo.
Nah! Nighty, that's you with the glasses. Don't be shy now.
Robert Keim, you're a genius. Just keep looking in those drawers. (You might find some cojones!)
