We collect FOUND stuff: love letters, birthday cards, kids' homework,
to-do lists, ticket stubs, poetry on napkins, telephone bills, doodles -
anything that gives a glimpse into someone
else's life. Anything goes...
Does that shirt have 2 collars? Looks like the yellow one and then a twee little white one with an embroidered paisley paramecium. From the print of the shirt I'd say late 60's, early 70's. Very sort of "flower power." Even boys wore flowery shirts in about 1969. I remember my uncle brought us some candy "love beads" once. My mom was furious.
But--flower power + Nordic sweater = please no.
José Feliciano?
- or maybe he just blinked at the wrong time.
...and your mama dresses you funny too!
Aside from the whole pleasing contrast between shirt and sweater ... I'm enjoying the time-lapse quality of the beard and moustache growth in the 4 photos when you hit "Magnify." The photographer must have had her subject come back over a period of weeks/months in the same outfit in order to catch that. Very professionally done!
Clearly this was at one point thumb-tacked to someone's bulletin board. I wonder if that was before or after the beard and pince nez additions.
Boy: But Mom I want to wear my cool paisley shirt for picture day.
Mom: Ai Dios Mio! I will not have you wearing that gringo hippy shirt. I don't care what your friends are wearing.
Boy: But MOM!
Mom: You will wear the very nice sweater your Aunt Freya got for you.
Boy: But...
Mom: Callete! Enough, you will wear the sweater or I'll take away your TV privileges, no Partridge Family for a month!
Boy: Yes Mama.
I had to read Librarian's post twice before I got it. Now I am laughing.
So, obviously, this poor guy can't open his eyes.
Makes perfect sense to me. A picture of a young wrangler, named Rudolph, in New Mexico where his potrero is located.
Pedro for President
Oh, come on! No devil horns in any of the photos? Or Frankenbolts?
I've always favored the arrow-through-the-head Miss Scarlet
Oh my, Librarian, I love you. I wouldn't've hit magnify for this one if you hadn't mentioned it.
Turnip, when I first read your comment, I thought it said, "..New Mexico where his potato is located."
Rudy the Potato Wrangler! HA!!!
I Find this particularly amazing because today I happen to be wearing a Vintage (circa 1972?) Paisley print shirt. Different colors, but same wonderfully pointy and long collar.
Do you think this young man saved these photos and used them in his later life to help him decide what kind of facial hair and glasses would best suit him?
I think the Sharpie art work was done by a girl who he used to like him (he gave her the photos) but later she thought he was a geek and marked up his pictures.
Hiplainsdrifter,
WHAT??
Manuel Jesús Consuelo is a happy boy. Both eyes closed to the problems in the world. Dreaming with the day he will lose his unusual shirt and ugly pullover of many colors, for a body covered in latex. He speaks reserved to god, and the saints, for the day that his He Taquito is one rubbed by beautiful dark women. They her will dress in rich Corinthian leather.

He will do the woman a cake.
Dear Librarian,
I saw this in a storefront last night and thought of you...

Omg, this looks like the boyfriend of a friend of mine, a boy who tried to love me up in 1975, right near where this photo was found in the Potrero district. Of course this would have been his junior high picture, taken a few years earlier. Strangely, I cannot remember his name at this moment, but this boy does look exactly like him. He was very sweet, except for his total lack of disregard for my friend's feelings, should she ever find out he wanted to cuddle with me. He had no guilt. But he was cuddly.
That sweater makes him look more ridiculous than the markered on accesories!
apropos, I just had to snoop on what in a storefront would make you think of Librarian, and that picture is pretty bizarre. Cute, but bizarre. Is that what Librarian looks like? What kind of animal is that? A bear? A dog? It's weird. And what kind of store was it?
Hello Robert Keim, finder extraordinaire! I'm thinkin' that in New York it's past the time when all good teachers should be in bed!
;)
@ Apropos ... Gosh, for me? I'd lost that one. Glad to know it's been found. Thanks for thinking of me.
@ Clover ... It's one of the legendary ceramic cats!
I love it! It reminds me of Wooly Willy.
(ha! Librarian said ceramic cat!)
Okay, so when I click on magnify, why do none of the four photos match the one that's originally displayed? How many photos were found?
is it 420 yet?
I'm gonna say it was a sheet of four small pictures from his school photo package, gringo.
Ah, classic. The Christmas sweater from hell. I am also loving the paisley collar underneath the Christmas sweater from hell.
Hey, dude, I think I have those same spectacles.
