That's just mostly weird. Maybe the artist had too much tequila.

Once again, the glories of the inside joke, and/or running gag! We will never know but it's fun to sit around and make up scenarios!

The platypus is one of my favourite animals. I always think God had a lot of leftever bits and pieces on Friday night and he realised he hadn't done any animals for Australia and New Zealand, so they got all the cool, interesting animals!
Did you know that when the first stuffed platypus was taken back to Britain they thought it was a hoax? Apparently just at the top of the beak there's a flap of leathery skin and underneath there are marks that look like crude stitching, so the naturalists were accused of cobbling something together to fool people!

And in case anyone wants to know, the Spanish word for platypus is "ornitorrinco"--literally "bird nose".

The mustache is my favorite part! And the fact that it is clearly meant to be facing a certain way, but the eyes are dead front. Like it's staring at you.

I personally like how the hat is precariously balancing on top of Senor platypus' head, and how the feet and accessories seem to be fairly well drawn...but something went terribly wrong at the beak.

I also enjoy the 3 Rs in Arriba (Arrriba!).

Crikey!! Careful, that one'll take your arm off! Look how it's guarding its egg with that festively painted club! I know it looks harmless, but don't let that moustache and jaunty sombrero fool ya!

I thought the "egg" was a big bowl of corn chips and a little bowl of guacamole

Maybe this was a prototype for Speedy Gonzales? I love the fact that he has chips and salsa.

Reminds me of a Schmoo from the Lil Abner comic strip, only tarted up for a little Mexican holiday.

It even has toenails.
That is awesomely detailed. nachos, salsa, maraccas, and ready to party.

Reckon he's partying with the Holiday Armadillo today?

Damn! We're in a tight spot.
I love the near-perfect arcs and circles throughout the drawing, juxtaposed with the hastily-drawn bill. (oh, and I love the extraneous tilde).

(Gosh,.. 'juxtaposed'? 'extraneous'?... did I wake up smart? Beter go back to bed).

(Nah, I'm still dumb ... had to ask a friend to help me with the Spam Protection question).

Smallbear in the Cave
"You're not very Marrr-volous Mr. Purple Who-is. says Dottie the Cherry virgin, slurring her rrrrr's and whirling around to face the large bruised colored creature.

"Oh Yeah!" says Moo.

"Yeah! says the girl also known as Dottie, as she lifts her table-cloth skirt and evoking the power of the Faeries. (Which you'll recall was hers to use as she pleased for an hour.)

A cloud of silky smoke appears from beneath her dress and envelopes Moo. When the smoke is gone so to is Moo. In his (her?) place is a duck-billed something or other (Dottie can't remember what they said that animal was in school) wearing a Sombrero and a blue collar mustache.

"Hey!" says the platypus "I'm a freeak."

Laughing in Tears
This made me laugh and cry at the same time.
My best friend got a day out of the hospital yesterday and we went to the zoo. I was wheeling him around and we were doing funny voices for all the animals... His platypus voice went something like this "Ooooh I'm a platyputh I am I am. Look at me I'm riiiiiiidiculouth. Ole.” (For some reason he tacked "ole" on to the end of every animal voice: It cracked me up.)

Hey, I saw that guy leaving the Mexican restaurant across the street from my bungalow last night. Of course, I was seventeen beers deep at that point, but I'm pretty sure it was the same person.

Please, gringos (myself included), if you feel the need to get shitfaced on Pretend To Relate To Mexicans Day, at least drink a good Mexican beer instead of burro piss like Corona.

The body and tail look like a dinosaur, sort of. And I think that it was drawn using a stencil. I don't really understand the messed up beak and the face on the side of the face. But- w/e! Happy Cinco de Mayo!

EYEBROWS were raised outside the Myer Christmas windows in Melbourne when a platypus appeared to be intimately involved with a wombat.

A malfunction was the cause of the accidental and unfortunate positioning of the two characters in this year's Christmas windows titled Wombat Devine.

Laughing in tears, that is an amazing coincidence. A platypus voice and ole's! I hope your friend will soon be well. With all that ole-ing and laughing he certainly will. It has been scientifically proven that laughter helps healing.

I'm sitting here bleary-eyed shredding old credit card statements from 2006, so your news flash caused me to rub my eyes. Ha!

Clover, how are you feeling? Thanks for the card. I'll write later.

i envision a particularly talented friend drawing the outline for this platypus and then his/her friend sitting beside him/her reaching over and insisting that it have "a sombrero...and a maraca...and then add some chips and stuff over on the side". and then realizing that the final touch would be a mustache but that the former bill wasn't exactly the right shape so he/she just scribbles a new one over it, then adds the mustache.

and then they erupt in laughter.

this reminds me of when i was in school, during classes i'd doodle random animals wearing tuxedos or scuba gear. when i first looked at this find i thought that maybe i had drawn it. i don't think so, though; i didn't know how to spell 'arriba' until i saw it. =]

I recognise that! It's from a poster advertising some festival/celebration in spanish, we've got one like it in our language classrooms, except ours is an octopus with a bottle of wine and a glass and fireworks.
