We Jump Hydrolics With Unity
FOUND by Evan Rabinowitz in Brooklyn, New York
A friend of mine received this as change and I bought it from her... for a dollar!
Antigone
good deal.

i like the graphic... but can't conjure any semblance of meaning...

i was surprised to receive one of the new $5 bills...it was odd to see a big purple 5... looked like foreign currency. i guess i'm traditional and boring, i like the classic green and white.

I like how the low riders are typically quite tough looking, but this one has flowers for hubcaps.

OK, I sense a theme here: writing on currency. This is more like "defacing"--I mean, yes, it's art (??)but--have you no paper? Why a truck? Hydraulics? How does one jump hydraulics, with or without unity? Or are we just being fancy for "drainage ditches?"

The questions this find brings up will buzz in my head for days.

Evan:
A buck, you say? Like many "art" collectors, you have wasted your money, paid way more than it's worth. This dollar ain't worth half that price.

wrye in da car show-
hydraulics make the car hop, or dance. in unity not sure about- might mean synchronized car dancing, or side/side or just could be a raza thing- anyhoo, dancing cars are wonderful things! i have been threatining my kids with changing my mommy-stationwagon to a hopping, lowridin' pimped-out stationwagon.

and writing on money is cool. kinda like message-in-a-bottle idea sans pollution.

Even better than getting a "where's George?" dollar.

There are numerous videos online showing pumped up cars that will bounce around, or "jump," due to the hydraulics systems installed. Is the "unity" part a club name?

...and that eyeball floating over the pyramid on the left?? A real hottie. Woo-hoo!

I received a dollar bill that had George Washington saying, "I grew hemp," and had a picture of a pot leaf. I meant to send it in to Found, but I think I accidentally spent it.

Chrome Toaster in the amazing hydrolic jumping machine
like how they spelled hydrolics like alcoholic or something. There were lots of these jumping hydraulic cars in the 4th of July parade in California a couple years back.

Those unified hydrolic jumpers spend a gawdawful amount of time and money on their rides, and I personally see NO point to it whatsoever, but hey, whatever floats their boat. They shore looked purty. I have some pics somewhere. Maybe I'll post 'em.

Oh, and those aren't flower hubcaps.. they're most likely Chrome spinner rims or some such. Ooohh shiny!

eyeball/pyramid = masonic symbols.

'with unity' = 'with impunity' (meaning 'and get away with it')??

Who knows.

The emblem on the eagle's chest is a hydrolic, and the truck is jumping it. I bet these guys also hang out in the McDonalds parking lot with solidarity.

Hey - I can't sign in today? Anyone else having that problem?

@wrye in da car show and chrome toaster - Thank you for explaining. At first I had no idea what it meant, but I think you are right. In unity must refer to jumping hydraulic car group (or gang) that the artist belongs to, I think.

Just wondering - are the people that like to pimp-out their cars also into street racing? Street racing is dangerous anyway, but seems it would be especially dangerous in big city place like NYC.

I like the idea of drawing on money. It puts your art out there for all to see, cos let's face it, who's gonna throw away your truck doodle when it's on a dollar bill?
+ April 25, 2008 10:32 AM +
not so clever in creating my handle
@nadine: there are plenty of open spaces to street race in the greater NYC area -- outside of town and in neglected areas of the city. I'm no expert, but my import racing buddy keeps me aware.

@the find: I LOVE it. Besides being a fan of low riders and low rider culture (you might not think it, but MN has some fierce Cinco de Mayo celebrations where the pimped out Monte Carlos and Impalas come out to dance), the way in which the "augmented" dollar bill asserts low rider culture as the new American culture is provocative.

"we jump hydrolics (sic) w/ unity" updates the old treasury mottos of E Pluribus Unum (Out of Many, One) and Novus Ordo Seclorum (New Order of the Ages).

It's time to get with it. Drop your ride, put on some 15" wire spoke tires, and lay your seat back. It's the new order of the ages...

I like finding art, messages, just about any creative defacing on currency.

@not so clever, I've never understood how one drives with the seat layed back. (Layed? Laid? I'm too lazy to look it up.)

@John, re not being able to sign in. When you registered, there was email sent to your registration address. Within that email was a link that you had to access to complete the registration process. Did you ever click that link? Did you ever receive that email? If not, it may have been gobbled up by your spam filter and sent to a trash folder. If you've emptied the trash and lost that email from the folks at Found, try contacting them and see if they can resend it so you can be red like the other cool kids.

The defacing of money is getting old. What's on the plate for tomorrow? someone puts some gay pride stickers on a rupee?
+ April 25, 2008 11:59 AM +
not so clever in keeping fit
@freonz: ultimately driving with a steeply reclined seat is an intense abdominal exercise. Abs of steel in your steel wheels. And people say youth today aren't fit...
+ April 25, 2008 12:02 PM +
John
@freonz - thanks for the advice. I don't remember getting said email. (On the other hand, I don't remember what I had for lunch today either.)

@our beloved Found founders - At the risk of becoming one of the cool kids, any suggestions signing in?

I have a 1994 Oldsmobile Cierra from my college years and I truly believe it deserves to be "pimped out" for all the hard miles I've put on it. It be pretty funny to see it with hydralics. I've gotten offers for it from people who I believe would do just that...pimp it out.

@ JOHN- Try signing in just at the top of the page in the right hand corner. The bottom "Sign In" has never worked for me, only the top one. Good Luck!

I like the mufflers!! I have a short-box Chevy pick-up and two mufflers stickin' out the back, too! However, mine is not a jumper!! Unless I happen to 'JUMP' the curb or cars myself!!!!

I've always loved finding money with writing and/or drawings on it. It adds a little uniqueness to an ordinary and often overlooked piece of our consumer culture. It's a tiny little piece of "Pop Art" that is a little on the anarchistic side of things. I have never saved any drawn on bills though. I much prefer to pass it on for other people to find and enjoy and/or wonder about. I'm also a little obsessed with keeping money circulating, don't know why. Neurotic, I know! Anybody else feel this way or am I alone with my insanity?

Okay, I read the comments and now I guess I get it. Kind of. Hydraulics. I still think they're flower mags though. With unity.. maybe that means love and peace.. flower power. Oops, maybe not. Too much exhaust/pollution/noise from those big pipes for that theory.

@Smallbear, I like passing on artsy money, too. I do have four $20 dollar bills I am hanging on to, though. Some time back in the mid/late 1980s they came out all at once from an ATM and they looked a bit odd, the ink was a different shade of green. Upon closer inspection, they were all four 1953 series bills. One must hang on to money older than ones self. *wink*

Smallbear in the Cave
@Freonz Wow, I'd probably hold onto those 1953 $20s too, if only to prove to myself that the World did not begin when I was born. ;)

The oldest money I have ever received were coins from the 1940s. Of Course I spent them.

By far the best $ drawing I've seen yet!

I like the way it looks like it's 3D driving right off the page in the lower left. Optical illusion... woooo!
