We collect FOUND stuff: love letters, birthday cards, kids' homework,
to-do lists, ticket stubs, poetry on napkins, telephone bills, doodles -
anything that gives a glimpse into someone
else's life. Anything goes...
This find looks really familiar. Maybe it's because I've been eating responsibly lately. I just made a squash and sunchoke and leek soup today -- all grown from my dad's garden, organic. Yumm!
Is that some kind of cat creature eating the ramen?
I love that this was found in a high school. I didn't eat ramen until college. Maybe it's a warning for graduating seniors.
funny though. :)
The red face indicates that Ramen-Cat failed to follow this rule:
Don't scald yourself when you rip the lid off.
Wait...ramen is BAD for you? I know it's not good for you, but "bad" is an overstatment. It's neutral. My grandma always used to cut mine up with kitchen scissors and put ice cubes in it. Now I just eat it fast and hot and burn my mouth. I will admit that I do only eat the Top Ramen brand...the extra four cents is really worth it.
MSG is the devil. Especially for those of us prone to neurological nonsense.
However, the Minneapolis-based crusty punk band Destroy wrote a great song in the early nineties called "Ode to Ramen." The lyrics, in their entirety, are:
Five for a dollar!
Cooks in three minutes!
Tastes great!
Ode to Ramen! Ode to Ramen! Ode to Ramen!
It reminds me of Max from Where the Wild Things Are (or maybe one of the Wild Things).
We don't get the kind in a cup, but with the package kind, my kid likes to lightly wet the square of noodles with water, let it sit for a minute to get a little soft, sprinkle with some of the powder, and munch.
I sincerely hope this is not the work of a high school student.
Maybe a younger sibling drew this for their high school age older sib, who tends to eat way too much ramen for lunch.
blue turtle neck with matching hair, a tail and pointy ears ... did someone get ramen in their trick or treat bag?
Ramen has saved the lives of thousands, if not millions.
1) what's a sunchoke?
2) I spent 4 hours today making two delicious vegan soups to get me through the week, but damn, ramen sounds really good now. no joke. with spinach, peas, mustard greens, and corn. I could totally go for that right now...
damn.
I thought it was horns and a devil tail at first (Ooh I'm a bad boy; eating unhealthy Ramen!).
Love the snaggle tooth.
i have a girl in my class who includes "eat more ramen" in almost every piece. looks like her work, last weeks featured hot air balloons full of the salty noodles
thank you.
that just made my day.
Ugh! Corn and peas in ramen? Ramen should be paired only with meat, fish cake, eggs, leafy greens, or things that can easily be picked up by chopsticks. Peas and corn is just like the nasty stuff that is thrown into cup noodles to please the white man.
BTW, could that possibly be a very messed up Naruto?
Looks like someone was bored during Health and Hygiene, or poss Biology class. Teacher may have been ranting about nutrition and held up Ramen as a bad example. I used to do this, doodle rebellious things that contradicted what I was hearing. If you remember to look up every few seconds, like you're really paying attention, they don't know you're not taking notes. As Maya Angelou puts it so well: spread a handful of attention over your face and tune out the adults.
It's adorable! He's really enjoying that ramen.
I don't think it's a doodle, how much time is there to colour it in without being noticed?!
I like instant noodles sometimes. I just eat them totally dry and throw away the flavour packets. Did you know that the square ones are banned in some elementary schools here (because the plastic cover is litter.)
I was unaware Ramen Noodles were bad for you. I survived off of them for two years when I was broke. Aside from the high levels of carbohydrates and sodium, they are an extremely versatile and quick food. They can be eaten on then go and their cheap too. Yay for Ramen!
Ha! That's how I feel about the cookies...and pizza....and chips....and chocolate....and mayonaise....and candy of all types....and sugar.....and coffee.....and deli sandwiches.....well - you get the idea.
Maybe it's a motivational poster for kids to eat better. I like Ramen's blue hair.
*ramen love*
i just bought like 24 packs of ramen the other day - yay for lunch for a couple weeks!
Cute cute cute! Is Ramen bad for you? That kid is eating Ramen? I would have thought he's eating Halloween candy. Somebody actually gave my kid a piece of sushi while trick-or-treating. That's what they were giving out... sushi. And the word "tasty" has always been really funny to me.
this reminds me of Inuyasha, a Japanese Anime. Inuyasha looked like a human but had dog ears on his head instead of human ears. he didnt have a tail though...but Inuyasha had a huge thing of Ramen. the picture isn't him but probably supposed to be a character from the show or 'world' or something. lol. its kinda cute though
I always heard that Ramen was bad for you because it is high in carbs, sodium and fat and very low nutrition. Not that it keeps me from eating it. I am currently hooked on those hot and spicy beef cups. YUM!
And Baby Basil, I did the EXACT same thing when I was growing up. :o)
I thought maybe it was someone from the anime/manga Loveless. In that one they all have cat ears and tails until they, uh, "become adults". But I don't remember off the top of my head if they eat a lot of ramen. Possibly.
It totally looks like a Wild Thing....
I love ramen. I do think they are kinda bad for you... the carbs and MSG, plus they are high in fat, as they are fried before they are packaged. It doesn't stop me from making this delicious ramen salad, which I will pass on for everyone to enjoy:
Asian Slaw
One prepackaged bag veggies for slaw, broccoli slaw or cabbage shredded.
Sunflower seeds, a handful or so. Or maybe almonds if you have them.
3/4 cup salad oil
1/2 cup sugar
1/3 cup vinegar (white works, but I like rice wine for this salad)
flavor pak from ramen
Crunch up the raw ramen into bite size-ish chunks. Toss with veggies. Add some cucumber if you want. Snow peas are good, too.
Wisk together the oil, vinegar, sugar, and ramen mix. Add some grated ginger if you've got it. Maybe a little sesame oil, too.
Pour the dressing over the ramen and cabbage/broccoli slaw and veggies. Throw in some sunflower seeds. Toss to coat. Put in the 'fridge for about 4 hours or so, so the ramen soaks up some of the dressing.
Good stuff.
when i was little, like first or second grade, i remember arguing with a girl about how to say ramen. rah-men or ray-men...i say rah-men.
Who give Sushi at Halloween?
Pepper, a family on my block gave sushi. I'm serious. One piece for each kid. No, they did not eat it.
Raised on ramen, it is now banned from my house, so it is a forbidden pleasure when my kids get it in limitless quantities at my parents' house. My folks splurge now on the individual serving in a cup variety, which I think taste like styrofoam.
Boy, someone worked hard on this drawing! I love the look of ecstasy on this lil creature's face.
Cool find, Terry!!
wow last night I had a dream about how unhealthy ramen was and then I check the find of the day and its that lol.
That's really weird, Spider. Did you have cat ears and a tail in your dream?
ramen <> tasty.
Definitely a little devil, with horns, a tail and cloven hooves. It has a friendly smile but that's just to trap you – they're the most dangerous sort. And it's in disguise, with its jolly blue dungarees, green top and, uh, blue hair.
Strange table, with claw feet? Perhaps that's its cat familiar, disguised as a table.
I always try to eat responsibly. It's just food I have a problem with.
Brain Problem: That is a great slaw recipe. I shared it with an old lady friend once - When she made it, she put sunflower seeds that were not shelled. Talk about a brain problem! Her family didn't know whether to eat it or feed it to the birds. If Ramen is evil then maybe we shouldn't feed it to them.
I have a friend who was obsessed with ramen. He went through a phase where he would only eat ramen. He talked about it a lot. :D
I think it's a comment on those public service ads that remind people to drink responsibly. Maybe that blue-haired snaggle-tooth kid puts vodka in his ramen noodles?
A ramen a day keeps the devil at bay.
ah, the story of my life. all summarized in a single, high fat ramen noodle bowl. :D
mood: i want sushi for halloween! yum.
TURBO IN THE THUNDERDOME, have you recovered yet? How was it?
Which came first, Ramen or Oodles of Noodles? This might be weird, but the chicken flavor makes my teeth feel like they have no enamel.
kids at my art camp were doing and excerise like that.
I can't believe only 2 people commented that this (hopefully) can't be the work of a high school student.
the last living thing standing at the end of custard's battle of wounded knee was a horse
I made the Asian Ramen Salad for dinner and it was quite tasty =P yum
I wonder if that's true, I'll have to look it up.
I've tried a mustard pack on my knee before, but it never occurred to me to apply a polstice of custard. I'll have to give it a try next time I'm wounded.
I missed something.
no, A Ghost, I can't say I did.
by the way everyone, I think this could be the work of a high school student. I currently go to high school. and well there are some of my classmates whose drawing talents are equal to or worse than the person's who drew this. I really think it was drawn by a high-school student.
To Not really in the mood:
What a STRANGE thing to give out at Halloween! Was it candy sushi? I mean... what were those people thinking? I love sushi, but that is just disgusting... and expensive!!!
To Janice in in shock:
Umm you obviously have never seen my drawings and I'm a 34 yo woman. There are quite a few people out there that just plain can't draw. I'm one of them.
The main problem with Ramen is the high amount of MSG. MSG is a neurotransmitter (hence Flargy's comment) and its main function in food is to trick your brain into thinking there is more protein in the food than there really is. Also, your body changes excess glutamate to GABA which may be addictive. It is calming and affects the same receptors in the brain as valium. That may explain why so many of you love Ramen! I had never heard of it until I was in my 30's. I ate pancakes out of a wok in my dorm room when I ran out of money. Equally as nutritionally poor, but no MSG!

sunchokes, for what it is worth, are the edible root of a plant commonly called Jerusalem artichoke. It is actually a sunflower root and can be sauteed, steamed, or stir fried. Tastes kind of like a nutty potato, if that makes sense. I beseech you all to go out and try this delicious and somewhat freaky vegetable. End of rant.
Hi Tori.... it was for real sushi ..California roll. And it wasn't wrapped in plastic or anything. All us parents waited at the end of the driveway while the kids knocked on the door. We saw a nice looking lady handing out what we thought was candy. When the kids came back to us, my son said " We got sushi. " Before that he didn't even know what sushi is (very picky eater ). We thought it was a joke but sure enough the kids all held out a piece of unwrapped California roll. For real. Other kids and parents were standing on the street talking about it too.
Is Ramen the same thing as Pot Noodles? I mean, basically the same?
About sushi for halloween....gack. Especially unwrapped. I mean, you don't know where it's been! Raw fish for the kiddies? Talk about "TRICK or treat!" No treat there, mate! Just a dirty trick!
Thats weird... I was texting my sister waiting for the screen to load, and I said that the caramel apple that I bought from a student org. was so good but so bad for me. Then I looked up and saw this find! HAH! It knew what I was thinking! I love it!
oh, ramen noodles.
there is a guy i know in my school who left for russia for a year to be a foreign exchange student.
he wrote us requesting one thing: ramen noodles.
Thanks explaining about sunchokes, Jennie. Did you grow some? I had written something about it earlier yesterday, but then my internet connection failed and when I rebooted I had lost it. At that moment I was heading out to a big adventure, so I didn't have time to recreate what I had written.
I didn't know what they were until my dad grew some this summer.
I do want to encourage you guys to try this very nutritious root and enjoy the beautiful flowers. If you save the root, you can plant it next year and a new plant will grow. Also the name comes from the Italian for "sun follower" and has nothing to do with Jerusalem. They are cultivated more in Europe than in the US, where they became known as a poor man's food during WWII, being one of the only foods available in some areas during wartime. They are super-nutritious. I learned all of this and more when I googled "sunchoke." You can too! Eat responsibly!
Becky and Spider, your comments prove that there really is magic in the world.
Who in high school still writes and draws this way?
One time I puked after eating Ramen.
Gross.
Shirley Temple doll, believe in the magic! I didn't understand your comment but now I do.
Believe in secrets too! But believe in the past, and believe in your friends most of all.
Yumm, Ramen, the food of the poor.
I just needed a little Alpo Helper to get through college. You know, if it's good enough for grandma....
Or you can just have "Helper" if you can't afford the alpo...
Yep.
Ramen has sustained me and my daughter in some incredibly difficult times. Thank God for Ramen.
