Stuck on Love
FOUND by Jon MacNair in Baltimore, Maryland
While cleaning up the auditorium after a symphony performance, I found this Post-It note stuck to a discarded program. It night was "college night" that evening, and I think the note was most likely drawn by a student from the art school down the street. I like the fact that this small thing evokes such strong sentiment.
ooh
i wish somebody drew something cool like that for meeeeee....

The Hoodie girl from American Apparel loves you too, Lisandra.

So sorry to be bringing that up again, I couldn't help it. :)

When I was a child and bored at the symphony, I kept myself entertained by imagining scenes of fairies and other magical creatures frolicking in the forest, scenes inspired by the music. Maybe that's what this person was doing.

Lysandra, thou hast given rhymes,
and interchanged love-tokens with my child:
thou hast by moonlight at her window sung,
with feigning voice verses of feigning love,
and stolen the impression of her fantasy
with bracelets of thy hair, rings, gawds, conceits, Knacks, trifles, nosegays, sweetmeats, messengers of strong prevailment in unharden'd youth: with cunning hast thou filch'd my daughter's heart!

Oh, it's 'Ms.Dev' herself! ERM... sorry, didn't mean to hurt anyone.

I've just been feeling so devilish lately!

Or, I guess it could maybe be 'CUPID' 'cause why would a guy/girl write 'I love you' with a devil??

Unless....oh never mind!
+ February 08, 2008 01:09 AM +
orinoco womble in wimbledon burrow
Not a devil, not a cupid. Just a very young satyr, like his older cousin, Pan.

Not that I'd care for a declaration of love from a satyr of any age...it would last only until push came to shove, if you'll forgive the Elisabethan pun.

Martina, I like your style.

Dare we hope that the girl's name is actually Sandra and she has taken to calling herself "Lysandra"? I would hate to go through life burdened with that moniker, but then parents sometimes use their children as blank slates to prove points on. We should all have the right of veto on our first name at about age 25.

Thus kind of reminds me of Shakespeare's Misummer Night Dream, Lysander was a character in it. This could be the female version. Plus there is all kinds of fairies and enchanted stuff in the play as well. But none the less, I really like this find.

It's been a tough week. Thank God tomorrow's satyrday.
I bet Lisandra's a babe, plays the flute, really knows how to pucker. I bet Mr Post-it sits in the auditorium, watches her lips, gets all hotted up. I know I would.

LOL @ Satyrday.

I can't tell if the creature is tweaking it's nip nip or putting it's hand over it's heart. Hmmm.

Orinoco, you're right, comme toujours. There's a little satyr (called 'Satirino') in Cavalli's opera La Calisto -- looked just like this -- and that's the first thing I thought of.

No harm in 'Lisandra' as a name (except what does it mean? 'Man lily'?). Plenty of things she can shorten it to if she's embarrassed by it. I think it's poetic!

Farmer: Pan pipes perhaps? ;-)

Or maybe she's a hunky contrabassoonist.

Martina, what is that quote? Beautiful.

Lysandra (in Greek Λυσανδρα; lived 3rd century BC) was daughter of Ptolemy I Soter and Eurydice, the daughter of Antipater. She was married first to Alexander, the son of Cassander, king of Macedonia, and after his death to Agathocles, the son of Lysimachus.

Lisandra's a cool name. Personally, I'd be pissed if my parents named be something as boring as Sandra. Or maybe my standards are higher because I have an unusual (but not sucky) name. :/

In any case, the satyr is awesome. I wish people would draw me satyrs... Maybe I should consider a name change...

From: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Faun

Somewhere along the line the artist confused fauns, satyrs and unicorns. That certainly isn't a goat's tail...looks more like a lion's.

orinoco, surely your parents weren't guilty of using you as a blank slate on which to prove a point? (j/k, couldn't help thinking of that, with a name like orinoco womble -- here on found we get to use ourselves as blank slates for our names, proving points if we want, and it's so much fun!)

i know more than one person who has taken the veto privilege on a given moniker at the age of 25. so many of my friends have legally changed their first or last names, but usually it's in rejection of the more common one, to something odd and difficult to spell or pronounce. very confusing. i guess maybe that says something about my friends and relatives?

and by the way, my name was inspired by a childhood friend who really was named Clover.. :) and i always wished it were my own name. she was cute and had braids and freckles, and i didn't think her name odd at all. i wanted to name my daughter Clover, but one of my friends said, "That sounds like a cow." so we named our daughter after another wildflower/weed, a very common girl's name.

Actually Sandra is short for Alexandra (as is also Lisandra?), so she could be named after a Queen of England or else Tsarina of Russia. And they probably took their name from Alexander the Great in the first place.

Nadine, the style of this little Post-it is nothing like the style of the artwork on those blogs.

But what, exactly, is a "blind contour"? does the artist make the drawing blindfolded? if so, that's pretty freakin' impressive.

The Faun's nipple is still visible. Since his eyes are closed, I was wondering if he's actually being depicted lying down, asleep. (and dreaming of his beloved, of course.)

I have yet to see this mysterious Hoodie girl. I see this horribly skin tight turquoise '80's dress, or that cheerleader girl. A few days ago there was an ad for men's underwear.. it was extremely disturbing.
