1984, Outdated
FOUND by S. M. Payne in Minneapolis, Minnesota
I was strolling along the rim of Lake Calhoun in the Uptown region of Minneapolis and spotted this slightly scratched plastic sheet. What compelled me to submit it to you guys is its total lack of pizzazz or sex appeal. If you examine the header I.D., it's the Master Foodstamp recipient sheet of the USDA for the year 1984!! Big Brother is on the loose, what low security to have a Master microfiche file blowing in the wind.... Gotta protect those names don't ya know.

Until I looked more closely and read the Finder's blurb, I thought it was some sort of star map or constellation chart. It actually looks kind of cool.

chrome in the corner of the Cosmic Kitchen
a couple of months ago, I had a weeklong finding spree during which I just kept finding other peoples' sensitive information. I found someone's birth certificate, someone else's official driving record, printed out by the DMV for the benefit of a potential new employer, a letter to someone else from their doctor, regarding test results and the need for another appointment, a cell phone bill (complete with record of calls made and received) and yet another person's bank statement..

I find stuff all the time. But it was really strange to have that little run where it seemed EVERYTHING I was finding was personal info that people (or at least I) would NOT want to have fall into the wrong hands.

None of the stuff was from as far back as 1984 though.

Speaking of finding sensitive personal information.. I found a filled-out level 1 sex offender registration form in the grocery store one day. It really kinda creeped me out. It included the name and number of the (parole officer? probation officer? not sure) person to whom the offender had to report.

Last week I found a letter from a guy in County Lockup to another guy who was just about to get out. It included full name and d.o.b. of the writer, as he wanted the recipient to go to the courthouse and get some documents. (and it also cautioned him to stear clear of Amber, cuz she's the one who ratted so-and-so out. LOL.)

I Find stuff all the time, but not that much of it is Found Magazine-worthy. I'm thinking of covering the cover of my FOUND photo album all in Found Post-its. (the ones that aren't interesting enough for submission.) My fave was a mini post-it that said, simply, "do the next thing."
