At first I thought that mushroom was from Texas, but now I think I understand. I don't think those are holes in the sky, I think they're clouds.

hoodie - that's a badly worded survey question. Do you want do know if 'we' are okay with other people using? under what circumstances? all people including minors?

I am all for decriminalisation.

And i like the pretty pictures.

Scientific Discovery!!
--Mushrooms in (Maine?) lay eggs (or mega-spores);
--Mushrooms in So. Carolina tear pretty holes in the sky.

@ Terrie-so-Very-- Of course it isn't a Texas mushroom - 'cause there are a total of FIVE Lone Stars! (lol)

@ Hoodie-- I don't know that I'm "okay with drug use"; I do know it exists, and I can't judge (tho' that doesn't always stop me!!)
-- (also I've been clean & sober a few years now, but I did my share of practice on booze'n'drugz for many many years before then.)

@ Couch Jamie -- I'm not sure about the inspiration for the egg-laying shroom the other day.... but I caught on to the reason for today's FOUND.

Today is Four-Twenty!!, which has apparently become a (widely-known) 'code' for pot-smoking. And, apparently, this year on 4/20/08, pot proponents (both medical marijuana advocates & the de-criminalize pot-smoking contingents) have decided that on April 20th THIS year, there are going to be (nation-wide) celebrations? smoke-ins?

For anybody who hasn't heard of the "4:20" and/or "4/20" code I'll try to help - I was told that "4-20" evolved from a high school (Marin High School?), where those who smoked pot realized that at 4:20 every day, they were all were gathered together & "partaking". (Probably tied to school schedule?). From that, it evolved into a 'code' within the school, and spread from there, becoming a euphemism to most (but, for those with 'square' parents, still a code?)....

Now that's what *I* was told... Anybody else have a version???

(p.s. I heard a comedian once -- he said "I don't know why they make such a big deal about driving while smoking pot. Heck, it should be illegal NOT to be on pot. Road rage would disappear! After 2 minutes, nobody would remember why they were mad! And drivers wouldn't speed... they'd be too busy waiting for the Stop Sign to turn green!")

interesting theory, but I think there may be some flaws in it!

Re: The survey

I like pot smokers. I just don't like pot, probably because I'm allergic to it. :/ It's a shame, because if I could get it legally, it might help my health issues.

@Camelia: I hadn't heard that version, but I seem to recall something about how those working a 9 to 5 would smoke at 4:20 so they'd be semi-coherent for the drive home? Dunno how true it is, but it makes sense to me.

I've seen people drive high, been in a car with one. Wow, that was an experience...

I always thought 4/20 was Bob Marley's birthday. Blast. Internet tells me different. I'm a little upset with whoever told me that lie (and with the fact that I've been sharing it with others for years).

Nah, nah, nah, you're all wrong. This week's "druggy finds" have nothing to do with any 4:20; they're all art work and/or notes produced by those awkward kids, posing strangely, holding things that are slightly disturbing.

Occupational therapy? Maybe...

in my home city, winnipeg, 420 is a protest, at the legistlative building, for the legalization of marijuana. And because so many people are smoking it, they cant arrest one of us without arresting all of us, so we can smoke pot, on public property for a few hours wihtout getting shit! its so fun!

I would think that all the drug-based finds this week are Totally because of April 20th. "Found Magazine" is such a stoner concept. At least to me.

I know I'm always picking up stuff off the ground, wishing I could share it with more...

That's why this quickly became my favorite website when I Found it.

I think they should just legalize it in Indiana and everywhere else
I think the wearing of the green has become a tradition among college students in this part of the country as well. Much like St. Pat's.

I don't smoke it, but I'd think they'd save a ton of money in jails and police and all that other crap if they'd just legalize and tax it. Probably would make more money that way anyway and save the jail space for real criminals like child sex predators and murderers. When's the last time you heard on the news, yeah he/she was wacked out on that joint he smoked and murdered 18 people? Mostly likely he/she was driving 10 mph in a 30 mph zone, in search of Twinkies.

By the way, Snopes has a real interesting article into the origins of the 420 usage which seems to have sprung from a number of sources.

Just my thoughts.

The version I heard was that 420 was a police code to indicate that someone had been arrested for marijuana possession, although that could be wrong, too. Guess I'll have to check Snopes. I'm all for legalization, too.

Scary clown in my closet
I agree that the survey question is worded too broadly; however, I will respond to it:
I DEFINITELY agree that marijuana should be legalized, with the same restrictions on minors as there is with alcohol and the other tobacco.
For adults, I think whatever you choose to do that does not harm others is totally up to you.

As for the drawing, I really like the mushroom and the trippy holes in the sky, but the sun isn't rendered with the same level of skill.
+ April 20, 2008 09:53 AM +
Clover in the lawn under show-covered apple blossoms
I heard the same 420 explanation that mlm in Texas said. I think what the man behind the curtain in oz thinks. Decriminalize pot, educate with accurate information and try to keep people from starting to use it before their brains are fully formed (around age 20-25) and that goes for alcohol and military service too. No one should be able to make a potentially brain-damaging decision with a brain not fully grown. Still, laws don't really stop anyone from doing what they want to do anyway. They just get sneakier.

The reason pot jokes are so funny is that pot use is so pervasive and it's so harmless (relatively) to society compared to just about every other mind-altering substance. And at the same time it's illegal. I don't smoke pot, but I have never known anyone to commit a crime while under its influence. Too much thinking going on.

I have, however, seen teenagers severely impact their education - and ultimately their future - by going to school stoned. Or by not going to school because they're stoned.

Blackbird, singing in the dead of night
The five-pointed star, or pentagram has been a magical symbol of many things to different spiritual groups throughout history. Perhaps there is a connection between this drawing and the Native American literature the student had been reading. Perhaps he was reading the Don Juan books by Carlos Castenada.

Isn't Ann Arbor THE place to be.. anytime at all, but on 4:20 in particular?

It seems I've heard something about Ann Arbor being the hotbed of decriminalization rallies, hempfests, smoke-ins and the like.

Is it related to Earth Day? I just got back from the EarthFair, it was awesome as always.

After I decided that those stars didn't represent Texas, I decided that they represent acid.

I don't smoke weed, but not because it's illegal--it's because I react very badly to it and makes me the opposite of how it makes most people. I do think it should be legal.

enh, weed never did it for me. Now, prescription painkillers on the other hand--(even though I only take them for legit reasons in the, almost, prescribed amount, cuz I dont want to become an addict like my dad)--is great!

I think pot should be legal only for medicinal purposes.

When I lived in Ohio, there was this tee shirt shop guy, Dangerous Don.. He sold lots of "tye dyes", dead shirts, pot-related stuff, etc. (very cool store; very cool dude.)

His favorite story was about a group of "older" tourists who happened into his store, and bought a bunch of pot-leaf shirts because they thought the picture depicted the famous Ohio State Buckeye leaf.

Now I cannot attest to the veracity of this story, but it IS freakin' Hilarious!!!

I don't know whether to agree or not to agree with the whole legalizing pot issue. I've always heard (and I could be wrong) that is was more harmful to the body than a regular cigarette if smoked on a daily basis. I don't know if I want to encourage others who don't smoke it simply because it's illegal to start smoking it if it does become legal for that reason alone.

It would make alot of money for our economy if it was taxed. So some part of me believes that since there are more people who are willing to smoke it whether or not is is legal then we should just go a head and legalize it to put the extra income to use.

Lastly, I always have to laugh at how California can just make up it's own laws. I heard a story not too long ago about how they were putting in vending machines and how Federal Government Officials were arresting those who had set up the machines. Since when can states make their own laws that contradict Federal laws. Isn't that why the Civil War started?

I love this drawing!! Especially the pot leaf behind the magic mushroom!!

Funny story...a friend of mine, whom is disabled from being crushed and run-over from a forklift at work, has been on Workmens Compensation here in Ontario for 15 years now. He collects $2500 a month from Workmens Comp. and so far has been awarded $50,000 just last month because of this mishap at work. (BTW, he worked for MAPLE LEAF MEATS)
Anyhoo, he's also been a pot-smoker for years and just last year received his "license" to buy, grow, and smoke pot for his pain.
I find it amusing that he calls this 1-800 # and orders his 1/2 oz of high-grade, hydro from the Government of Canada, then it's delivered to him the following day by UPS and he pays peanuts for it because he has total Health coverage and Prescription coverage!!!!

Go figure!!!

I LOVE living in Ontario, Canada!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
