Not Necessarily in... December 01, 2002 |
We collect FOUND stuff: love letters, birthday cards, kids' homework,
to-do lists, ticket stubs, poetry on napkins, telephone bills, doodles -
anything that gives a glimpse into someone
else's life. Anything goes...
um...that's not a bucket. it's a very large pot--possibly a soup toureen or something like that. and it appears to be full of water, as well as baby. as if they were going to cook the baby... I think that makes it so much cuter!
It's not a bucket but this is why they have a warning on buckets!! Bet the soup tasted GREAT!
I don't think they were making Chunky Baby Soup (I know this because there isn't any vegetables in the pot), I think they were giving it a bath, letting it "swim", or just got bored and stuck the baby in the pot.
If youve got a baby, you put it in a pot, it stands to reason
...and young dorothy is behind the baby. Still missing her ruby slippers.
Anyone know how to play that Deliverance song on the banjo? Babies are easier to catch than possums...
I think there are many similar pictures of me... I loved playing inside things more than anything and I would take all the pots out of the lower cabinets, proceed play in the cabinet and then play in the pots and pans when I got bored. They are on a page labeled "Jessica Soup" in my baby book.
Starting off life with a pot to piss in, not bad....
If youve got a baby, you put it in a pot, it stands to reason. Well said, FP! I laughed out loud:)
"Mama did say to put Bryce in a pot to boil... or was it rice?"
maybe the baby is about to go on a wild adventure down a calm river.
maybe he'll meet his destiny.
maybe his mom doesn't want him anymore.
I have tons of similar pics of me. My dad had one at work for years of me being given a bath in our kitchen sink, with the strainer behind me, its just easier than a tub!

I think it was big sis' job to give baby a bath and she didn't want him lay back and drown in a tub, so she put him in a pot instead. it's very sweet.
My parents have various photos of me with my brother, like one where I've got a hose and he's in the background crying...so I'm thinking maybe the sister got fed up of her younger sibling and just put him in a pot, out of the way. lol.
--I'm not mean to my brother anymore btw.
From "How to Really Love a Child" by SARK:
". . . If they are crabby, put them in water."
baptism
WARd
They're so going to eat it! Why else would it be in a rather large baby-sized pot?
They did it, they finally did it. They threw the baby out WITH the bathwater...the bastards...
we have lots of pictures of both me and my brother in buckets and pots and whatnot. so i guess it's not that unusual really
It looks like it is dead. Am i the only one that thinks this is disgusting and brutal?
Bucket Baby looks fascinated with something on the inside of the pot. What oh what could it be?
I don't think it's dead...yet.What's with that floor though? It looks like a trap door with someone down there in it.This picture doesn't make me smile. It's creepy, you don't let a 5 or 6 year old kid put an infant in a bucket/pot of water! Call DCF now!
this is one of the most dangerous things i ever saw...hope there is a grown up taking the picture to rescue a drowing baby. scary!! CPSC would be all over this!!
I love this find! I wish there was a pot of clean fresh water big enough for me to just sit in. How refreshing
babies, why don't you try a bathtub
Baby in a bucket sounds alot better than Baby in a stock pot.
My parents have a picture of me sitting in a baking pan. Apparently they were tired of Baby Soup, or just preferred Baby Cake instead.
It's pretty clear what they were doing. Can't you see the baby was being "Pot-ty Trained?"
big T, your comment made me crack up.
Maybe this is a 1960-70 thing when everyone was just more relaxed about safety issues. My parents also have many stories/pictures which they find hilarious, but bring into question parenting skills of that era. I do worry for the poor 4 year old who was obviously told to "watch the baby" while someone in charge took the picture. Yikes...Look how close she is trying to stand to avoid total disaster.
That's so cute >~<
jilzilla, hahaha! pot-ty trained! That pot is not 60s-70s era, that's a modern stock pot. That baby is just fine, Dad's right there w/the camera, you can tell by the angle of the picture. worrywart parents drive me crazy, Jersey, and you'll drive yourself and your children crazy, too, if you become one.
Is this dangerous? I thought you mixed formula w/ milk so I certainly don't know.
ready to send: you assume too much although I am not sure why.
I am getting the stock pot out right now. Honey, you stand right here and don't let your brother drown...
the girl in the checked dress is me. It actually was a Dorothy costume, from my fourth Halloween (later used for a lot of dress-up games). The baby is my brother. He was the scarecrow that year.
and although I remember the bucket (it's my grandma taking the picture, and my mom is just outside the frame on the bench in the background), I don't remember why he was in the bucket. Scenes like this were typically related to camping (it's pretty hard to wash a baby in a bathhouse shower, especially if you don't want them touching the ground).
Put a lid on that pot to keep the baby from crawling out, it works with live lobsters.
It's a really cool picture. Looks like it could be an album cover. :]
I have a chunky baby and I thought this was too cute!!
i immediately started laughing when i saw the picture, knowing that there were going to be some great comments! thanks its me, ray, and maynard for making my day!
the baby seems more interested in how good the soup smells, rather than what's actually in the soup. maybe babies are as stupid as they say...
I definatly have a few pictures of me and my siblings in similar pictures. Very southern looking picture.
Rock on! Other than the 'baby in a washing basket', 'baby in a bucket' is a photographic essential for every mother. I have one - my girl even has the lid balancing on her head ;-)
Babies are my favorite food group...
nate, so random that i clicked on your picture.
I could have sworn that there was something like this on Food Network...
I think this picture is adorable. I love that his big sister is probably looking after him, and I loved the remark about the ruby slippers missing. Very cute picture for sure.
I kind of think it looks like the baby is trying to drink the water.
