Happy Spaniels
FOUND by Karen Berry in Yakima, Washington
This photo was found in a thrift store, used as a bookmark in an older paperback-- I wish I could remember which one-- but my friend bought the book and gave me the happy, happy spaniels. The date on the back of the photo is April '78, which is cool because my friend's name is April, and we graduated in '78.
Clover in the Lawn
The finder's story about April '78 is the best part of this find! And the photo is so sweet! The dog in front looks like Audrey, my friend Becky's dog. You had to spell c-a-m-p-i-n-g if you weren't planning to take Audrey, or she would get really really excited, and then really, really disappointed.

Dogs get so much enjoyment out of life. Sometimes I wish I was a (well-cared-for) dog; they get excited by little things like snow, a sunny day, a walk with their friends. You can yell and scream at a dog or at life in their presence, and all they want to do is "make it better." Look at those "dog smiles." You can see them saying, "It don't get better than this!"

If you have a dog, pet it for me. I don't...and it's one of the sorrows of my life. But where I live, it's just not doable.

I hope seeing this happy picture is a sign that I am going to have a good day, b/c at the moment I'm not so sure. This is the sweetest picture I have ever seen on here, makes me feel better.

Melanie in Washington
Clover, we have to spell w-a-l-k at my house because my dachshunds will go into a psycho frenzy if we use the actual word. (God forbid if I open the 'junk drawer' and accidently touch their leashes). I have to hide when I put on my tennies, and then sneak out if I want to go for a jog or walk alone. So 90% of the time, I take the dogs.
I like this photo. The dog in the back looks really old, and Shadow Man looks like a really big guy. (Shall we say "stocky")?

Clover in the morning, after being wakened at 4:47 am by a barking dog escaped from a neighbor's yard!
Melanie, do you have to walk or jog slowly if you take the dachshunds? Their little legs must have to move fast to keep up. I can see why you might like to go without them sometimes. It's funny how animals can understand English. I think that Audrey eventually learned that the spelled version of "camping" meant the same thing as the not-spelled version. So the family had to avoid talking about it in front of her altogether.

orinoco, that's a perfect description of the doggy character! If only they didn't need baths and if only they buried their own poop. Then they would be perfect.

I wish I could have a dog, but I never will, since my husband won't have one for the above reasons. That's okay; I love cats too.

CuriousKat not signed in but using my 'real' name
I knew I recognized this finder's name. When I searched for her I discovered her previous find is my all time favorite find:

http://www.foundmagazine.com/find/406

I have been wanting to get another dog for a couple of months now. And I decided because of that find I was going to name it Jasper. How weird is that!?!?!?!?!

Mona, I had a black and white springer too. I still miss him every single day. He was the most saavy dog I've ever know. I've been searching the Springer rescue websites for a new one for a while. Having a hard time making the move but I certainly have the itch.

Orinico, I'll give my dog some special attention in honor of you. Gatsby will be very happy.

Theres a song about how great a dog's life really is ("I want to be a puppy" - The Tradewinds) - and this picture makes me believe its true.

Even though I'm not a dog person, per se, when I see a happy dog, it always makes me happy too. "Awww, Whose a good dog? Whose a nice happy dog? You are!"

A family friend had a brown and white colored Spaniel much like the dog in the front, back in the '70's. Her name was Sassy.

Seems like the theme of today's Finds for me is stuff I had forgotten about.

My best friend's aunt had a springer spaniel named Nutmeg, that looked just like that one in the front. To me, they're all Nutmegs.

Growing up, I had a friend who had a black an white spaniel and a brown and white spaniel. Max and Lady. They were the sweetest dogs, but they smelled bad. These dogs look freshly groomed and very pettable!

I think our challenge here is to come up with
captions for what the dogs are thinking (and would say, if they could).

For Caramel, the one in back, I'm going with
"If only it would rain! It's *so* stinking hot here!"

For Ginger, it's "Hey! You *know* you want to take me to the park. So let's go!"

Librarian in the woodwork
Librarians are pretty much cat people.

Might have something to do with cats never needing to be taken outside to "do their business" at 11:00pm in the middle of a January sleet storm.

I love the coincidence of the finder's story too!

We used to have a Springer Spaniel like the nearest dog in the pic. Her name was Cricket and she could crack open peanuts and eat just the nut, leaving the neat half-shells behind.

This picture really touches me. As soon as a fence is up, we'll have a dog. But for now we are owned by a beautiful cat. I grew up with brittany spaniels...I can't wait to have another one! Those eyes on Brownie are spaniel eyes..I can hardly wait for a new one to come into our lives!

The spaniel is saying, "Hey, who invited you? This is a private party!"

They are really good looking animals and I bet they are pretty darn smart but how did they conquer the Aztecs and also control Florida for so long?
