Thanks Mom!
FOUND by Eric Widdison in Logan, Utah
I found this under my bed in a college dormitory. It was cut from the (unmoistened) flap of an envelope. Just why was this person so grateful to his mother for making it possible for him to show the pain in his face? Why did he cut this part out from the envelope? What kind of college student sends letters to his mother by conventional mail?

Hypothetically, they didn't cut only that part - they cut up the entire envelope. Thus, they were possibly never intending to send it. Perhaps it's sarcasm, perhaps it's a rant to the mother who made it so possible for them to "show the pain in my face". I admit the grammar beffudles me. Is their something wrong with their skin, does their face hurt? (That does sound unlikely/ridiculous). Or is it about showing inner pain on (thus "in" would have to be a mistake, yes?) their face?
I am leaning towards the latter, in which case I can easily envision a college student getting carried away with accusations, writing spilling from the letter to the envelope, and then cutting the thing up. It sounds like the kind of thing I'd do. XD

I'm very curious about this. I want to know what his mother did so he could show the pain in his face.

It looks kind of like feminine handwriting, especially with the swirled underline of thanks. It seems that the letter may be FROM mom, and she forgot to punctuate: Thanks, MOM
But I have to wonder what could have made her show the pain in HER face... then again, she has a kid in college. It's not hard.

I think it has something to do with a lawsuit. Maybe he took acting classes so he could show the pain in his face in court, in order to get money.
It says Mom, not man or mow by the way.

I think it's about acting. Maybe the mother helped him or her with the certain aspect of pain in a scene.

But why the envelope?

Here goes. Mom had some wisdom teeth out, her face swelled up, she told her son it hurt like hell. Son didn’t believe her, sent her a present of a Polaroid camera? maybe. She takes a photo of her aching face (which if it’s anything like mine was, probably turned purple and then green, as well as swelling up), sends him the photo in this envelope. Writes the note on the envelope flap as an afterthought. He didn’t cut up the envelope deliberately, just sliced the flap off when he was opening it with a paper knife. She didn’t lick it properly anyway before sending it, so it now appears unmoistened. OK? Alternatively... who cares.

I send my mum regular letters and I'm in college. There are people who still do that!

I think it says "Man" rather than "Mom".

Yeah, if it says "man" it's probably not even that hard to figure out. It was probably a nasty letter A intended to be sent to B, who was annoying them by doing something lame. A writes some sarcastic note implying B is lame ('i could show the pain in my face') and then cuts up the letter before they sent it. (Maybe cut up because it's their roommate?)

Then again, maybe not...

Maybe Mom staged a Botox intervention. Thanks to Mom's efforts, she stopped the Botox injections and can now show the pain in her face. Now that is a gift that keeps on giving.
