Untitled #5
FOUND by Kaira Simmons in Kentucky
I found this photograph on the street last autumn. It's probably one of the most hauntingly beautiful images I've seen in my life. I don't know who the boy is or how the photo found its way onto the street in front of my house, but I knew it would be perfect to send in.

This child looks like he's being eaten by that Christmas tree! I bet he has nightmares about December 25th now!

Oh my god. That spot looks like a place in my house...Disturbing and intriguing at the same time. I wish I knew who this belonged to.

I honestly believe this is a ghost that wasn't meant to be in this picture. It's very creepy, especially how long the child's face is. I bet it scared the owner and they dropped it, never to remember the ghost again.

This is what happens when you try to take a picture of the tree without using the flash. I have a pic of my daughter that's very like this one. Of course, she was wearing the lights on her head...and she was smiling, not looking like that scary "Scream" painting.

NJ, you made me laugh, and Emily, when I saw this pic, the first thing that came to my mind was "a ghost"!!!!

for some reason, I feel like the kid is being pulled into the Christmas tree... or pushed seeing as his hands are up.

the very first thing i saw [before my brain made sense of the picture] was a chinese new year dragon
the mouth was where the dark stripes are on the kid's shirt

This is a simple case of a missing flash. Because the room was too dark, the camera metered for a long exposure (the camera decided that, in order to gather enough light, it needed to keep the shutter open for a long time). During the long exposure time, the photographer moved the camera a small amount. This is evidenced in both the (admittedly creepy) elongation of the child's face as well as in the loopy trails made by the tree's lights. Even a second's exposure is too long for most people to hand hold a camera perfectly still; you need a tripod or a flash.

This turns out to be a cool effect. As with Elizabeth, it makes me think of Edvard Munch's painting "The Scream." Cool.

People are so quick to believe that Mr. Devil is tormenting Christians or whatever. The kid is laughing and moving. The cheap camera with the slow shutter made this master of macabre.
Not Satan or Wilford Brimley.

Weird this kid's skin is paler than his shirt! He looks like some kind of sick photoshop ghost. Haunting, not so much beautiful, since I have a ton of pictures with wiggly christmas lights
