FOUND by Reddi Rafael in New York City, New York
I was on the F train and found this sitting on the empty seat next to mine.

Maybe she's prettier.
Beauty IS in the mind of the beholder.
Maybe.

I meant eye.
Completely possessed when I wrote that.

not just another mouth in the lipstick vogue
We got ourselves a couple of self-reflective teenage girls today. Huzzah! A banner day this Labor Day!

I like the fact that "who cares" is scratched out. She decided, "Hey, I care that this person is upset about Miss Goody Two Shoes!" And goes on to explain that we are all vulnerable to stupid superiority if we don't know any better.

I love the self deprecation here. "Maybe not as pretty tho." MGTS *is* pretty--and does she know it! That's 90% of her problem, she's been Mommy's Little Angel who Can Do No Wrong all her life. The sort that makes good behaviour look really really bad. And who can help loving the honesty at the end: "And I want to kick her in the face." Yes, I understand it's ignorance and a false sense of superiority--but don't you just want to kick her senseless??

Yes, "Me", the MGTS of the world have that effect on us. I grew up with one. And yes, I often wanted to kick her in the face.

"if i didn't know any better.."

clearly the author of this note is not all naive and innocent as miss priss. i wonder what she's been up to...? and of course there is some jealousy involved. :)

i wonder who she is and how the two are different, if the author of the note knows better than to be like her, and i wonder why she WOULD be like her if she didn't know better.

This note has a certain poignancy to me. who is this goody two shoes anyway, and how are the author and the stupid girl related? ex friends? boyfriend thieves? arch nemeses?

Oh Me, it's a good thing you know better.

But what, I wonder, is it that you know better?

Maybe you know how life disappoints? Maybe how loss can churn in one's gut like underripe fruit?

Maybe you just know to avoid hitting the return key over and over and over and over again in some tired but happy daze?

I wonder what any one of us might be if we didn't know better...

I, for example, could be a fish.
