Untitled #4
FOUND by Margaret Lin in Santa Monica, California
I found it in a book that I bought from Wilshire Books. It was in a book called "The Catcher in the Rye."
Olivia in Muscat, Oman
Kind of ironic to have this picture in The Catcher in the Rye.. I like it.

i don't know why anyone would phrase it like that... 'in a book called "The Catcher in the Rye"' I would have just said.. i found it in The Catcher in the Rye. It needs no 'a book called' preface.

Monica, either Margaret (the poster) was being ironic when she said "in a book called...", or she really had just never heard of it before.

I'm hoping for ironic. That book was such a rite of passage, for so many people. Scary to think people might not have heard of it. I do get that she was being either ironic or naive.

Yes, but is was it taken at a store called Toys RUs and if so, who subjects their children to having their pictures taken in a parking lot--no wonder the kids seem pissed.

Hollie in in the giraffe cotume to the left!
I feel sorry for the people in the costumes, it looks like that giraffe head would be pretty heavy.

Angel in A JUDGEMENTAL World
I have never heard of that book. Maybe it was before my time? Anyway, I like the pic.

Agree in g with Monica
That was my first thought too, Monica.

Also, it really bugs me that the picture was taken at an angle.

i feel like those children are hostages and the giraffe suits are thier disguises so that after they make the 50 billion dollar transaction the can leave the country without anyone knowing who they were

Well, she said she bought the book, people, lay off. Chances are good she didn't just buy it for kindling.

I find it interesting that although several comments made regarding this photo being found in a copy of 'The Catcher In The Rye'mention that is a super-classic, and it is, no one seems to have noted that theme of Holden Caulfield's thoughts revolved around saving kids from having to become adults. Then the photo, "I'm a Toys 'R' Us kid, I don't wanna grow up!" And Geoffrey and the other giraffe seem to have 'caught' the children. The photo and book must be together! I applaud the accident or insight that led to their juxtaposition.

I think the person who took this picture was a maniac leaving a clue - psychopaths notoriously love Catcher in the Rye. This photo should be taken to the police immediately.

Zeke, my friend, you have saved this entire comment section with your observant, insightful post. Olivia alluded to it with the very first comment, but I don't think anyone else made the connection. You get an A.

I was "supposed" to read this book in HS, but I was a rebel who flat out refused to read any of the compulsory stuff. I coasted through by paying rapt attention in the daily class discussions. I have since read the majority of those books I refused in high school. Except The Oxbow Incident.

well, i used to work at toys r us, and for random events, my boss would sometimes have to (maybe voluntarily?) wear this suit. all i know is that he wore it with no clothes on underneath, because it was so hot. maybe those kids know something we don't about this particular geoffrey.

I don't think your boss wore the suit w/ no clothes on just because it was so hot, Alison. Wearing a pair of boxers and a t-shirt isn't going to make one helluva difference in the grand scheme of things.

It's really disturbing to think that there's a naked guy running around in a giraffe suit at a toy store somewhere in Santa Cruz.
