anything that gives a glimpse into someone

I did not write this note, but it really struck me, strange as it sounds. When I read it, I had to write it down in my own handwriting just to make sure that it wasn't me. When my mother was dying of cancer, her hair had grown back into this gray fluff that she called her "Grey velvet," before that she always had a huge perm of full black hair. This image of leaning down and kissing the huge velvet head, crazy as it sounds, is so beautiful to me. I almost wish I had written this note.
The prior comment was beautiful. So I feel bad for putting my two cents in...
but this find sounds like an excerpt from a sleazy romance novel to me.
shouldnt this be in dirty found? Holly.... you sound like a lovely, innocent young girl. Which just makes me feel like an old sleazy bitch.
lol, i am right there with you mymind. "velvet head" can only be a euphemism for one thing. XD
Yeah - I thought the same as mymind & Erin... so when I read Holly's comment about it striking her... well...
Is that a "k" or a "P"? This is about a rabbit, yes? You girls....
ooohhh yeah...
Holly's comment was lovely.
Holly's comment is lovely, yet very very naive. very naive. did i say very naive? cuz i meant EXTREMELY naive.
i've written naive way too many times.
how old is holly, 9?
Holly's comment is not naive. It's a simple fact: this note reminded her of something in her life. On the contrary, that it reminded her of something with more meaning than the others makes it tempting to call all everyone else here the naive 9-year-olds.
Well, Wendy, i'm sticking with Holly being naive. Had Holly realized what this actually meant, she would not have said it reminded her of her grandmother. I wish Holly would come back and speak to this, cuz right now, its just speculation.
more meaning or not, this note was referring to someone kissing someone's penis.
Just for the record, Holly in the first comment is not the same Holly as me. (And I want to read the pages before and after this one sentence. Perhaps I'll have to write my own....)
Holly (the first one) is very moving, thank you.
If it's pornography it's an odd thing to write down on a random scrap of paper.
Sounds like something overheard on the London Underground --

From "The Velveteen Rabbit": "And she [the magic Fairy that takes care of all the playthings that children have loved] came close to the little Rabbit and gathered him up in her arms and kissed him on his velveteen nose that was all damp from crying."
velveteen nose is different from "large velvet head"
Hahahahahahaha! "velveteen nose is different from 'large velvet head'" Thank you, Mona. Hahahahahaha!
people keep trying to make this sentimental and sweet. It is so clearly sexual, dont you think, midlife?
If this was posted on February 22, 2006, why is the first comment dated October 18, 2006?
Clover, the ability to leave comments on Find was a bit later. Or I just thought of another possible reason is that those Finds on the bottom of this page did some rotations between other Finds
Mona, I've never heard the term velveteen nose or large velvet head, and I never would have thought of it as being nasty. Shame on you gutter mind. Shame on all of you. Holly's comment was sweet and touching, but I never would have called it naive.
Here's Milton, who put the words "velvet head" in the mouth of the nymph, Sabrina:
By the rushy-fringed bank,
Where grows the willow and the osier dank,
My sliding chariot stays,
Thick set with agate, and the azurn sheen
Of turkis blue, and emerald green,
That in the channel strays;
Whilst from off the waters fleet
Thus I set my printless feet
O'er the cowslip's velvet head,
That bends not as I tread.
OF COURSE MONA'S RIGHT! DUH!
(...perhaps I won't have to write my own after all.)
Thank you, Uncle Milty!
oh Midlife.... I do declare, i am feeling just a wee bit faint. Do catch me if i fall, kind sir?
I'm with Wendy. Of course these words were probably intended in a sexual way, but no one knows for sure, and NO ONE can say what's in another person's mind. Just because this made Holly (the first one) think of that experience doesn't mean she couldn't have also thought of the sexual meaning. However, the thing that struck her struck her -- that, by no means, rules out her capacity to understand the other meaning. I'm sorry this sounds flustered, but I just don't see a logical argument there, nor do I see how it's relevant. Surely, Holly's entitled to react to this however she wants.
am i the only who that can't read this at all? the only thing i can gather is from what i read in the comments? i'm not good with cursive on a computer screen. someone tell me what's going on. ifeel so left out lol
@Tired in Bed: It reads, "A second later I leaned forward and began kissing the large velvet head."
Yes, this is something a WRITER would write on a random scrap of paper.
It is part of the writing process for some people, like myself. When a thought pops into my head (a pretty line, something I'd like to use in a book or poem), I write it down on the first available scrap of paper.
Thanks, midlife. I couldn't understand it either u__uU
After FINALLY understanding what was written I now know why everyone thinks this is dirty xD
It was found at a dog park. The huge velvet head belongs to Rover and is, in fact, his actual head, complete with eyes, ears and nose. Weird? A little...but if you look around you'll notice that lots of people kiss their dogs. And plenty of them love their dogs enough to write something like this.
Uh ohhh.. here comes the lipstick.
