Yellow Truck and Gun
FOUND by Erin Jones in Whittier, California
I found this photograph in a rental house garage in 1998. This is one of my favorite things ever.
Clover in the Lawn
I really like photo finds, and this one is interesting too, but I'm wondering why Erin says it's one of her favorite things ever. Maybe it's the cheery yellow truck. Or the grandfatherly way the older man is teaching the boy some gun skills. Manly, yet gentle. I guess. I don't get what's so great about guns. Hopefully it's target-shooting.

That kid is no stranger to packin' heat. Lookit those muscles in his forearm!! I'd love to meet that Grandpa.

I'll bet the targets are jackalopes.

I would also be quite pleased to find this...I bet the old man let the kid ride shotgun the way home instead of whoever took(the photo).maybe not. either way its awesome.

This definitely reminds me of "No Country for Old Men." Receiving his training at an early age.

I hate guns with a passion, but I 'find this find' adorable. The clean-cut boy, the patient grandpa, the totally cool old truck, the hot desert. I imagine the boy had gone to church with grandma and grandpa (his pants are so dressy) and he begged them to take a quick detour to let him shoot grandpa's gun that he keeps in the glove compartment.

@Valleri they're not Asian they're just squinting in the bright desert Sun.

Wonder what the boy's aiming for?

The magnification is great with this photo.. the detail, a nice photo find.

Makes me wonder though, if it's male bonding, who's taking the picture?

I like how the car door is left open.

@Danielle Smile: My guess is this is grandfather and grandson. The photographer is grandson's Dad (grandpa's son). Three generations.

this looks just like where I grew up, in Southern New Mexico.
Everything from the greasewood bushes, to the color of the dirt...and the mountains in the background could easily be the Sacramentos or San Andres mountians.

I wonder!

jennie in the garden of oblivion
This has the wistful tarnished quality of an old 70's movie....As if you could almost hear The Ventures in the background and the whistling of dry desert wind in the gnarled pinon trees. I guess living in Colorado when you have access to such places is just naturally surreal. Sometimes I want to be a kid popping off a gun in front of McGyvers' pickup. Hmm.

after two days in the desert sun, my skin began to turn red.
I suspect Clint Eastwood is around there somewhere, wearing a dirty old hat and a serape.

On Maaannn, I LOVE that truck!! I once had a crush on a dude with a kickass truck very similar. I think I actually liked the truck more than the dude. Although he WAS kinda cute. (hi, Sam, wherever you are)

anniedawg, It looks like 30 miles inland anywhere in Southern California. Since it was found in Southern California, I think Southern California is a better bet. Really, looking at this picture, I think it looks just like where I live, before it was populated and those mountains look just like the mountains I see every time I walk outside.

oh my gosh !!!!....I love this picture. it is truly priceless...as long as they're shooting at some darn cacti or a darn illegal !!!

Great picture of family bonding, should be in the Smithsonian

I honestly hope to take a similar picture of my husband with our daughters shooting at something kooky in New England !!!

When I magnified this photo, the shooter looks like a WOMAN to me. Looks like an earring in the right ear. Also the cut of the hair and shirt looks more like a blouse. Thin arm is feminine in my opinion. What do you think?

Um no...I think it still looks like a boy. I think this is a great pic too. It reminds me of all the times my grandfather took us kids target practicing. I didn't really care for it, guns scare me but it was the one thing that truly bonded my brother and grandfather. To this day, they go hunting during black powder season. I prefer fishing.

Indy, I agree. For some reason I thought "Navajo."

I nominate this picture for the "awkward kids holding awkward objects" club. I think it's beautiful, but I also think it belongs with the other boys-with-guns pics.

@ BANANA- This pic reminds me of "No Country For Old Men". Excellent movie!

The same truck...that's probably Anton Segur when he was a wee boy learning how to shoot.
