Lots of Possibilities
FOUND by Jessica Meyers in San Francisco, California
I found this piece of torn cardboard just up the street from my house in Cole Valley. I picture a teenager writing it, maybe experimenting with a god complex, or maybe just making a list of morbid verbs. Apparently, "confuse" didn't make the cut.

Could this be a song list for a band?

Hmmm, looks like someone might be thinking of ways to kill someone annoying? =P

Some of these are violent verbs, and even "Cheat" "lie" and "Damn" could be ways to "punish" someone. The word that seems out of place to me is "hide"

What seems strange to me is flood. You can't flood someone else, you can drown them, damn them, hide thier body, but you can't flood them. Undoubtedly, floods are destructive, but it doesn't seem to fit...

Someone in hiding
My guess is that the person writing this was coming up with ideas for a religious-themed RPG/video game, and was brainstorming ideas for types of attacks a Player Character could do.

Did you notice the handwriting looks different on either side? Maybe the person wrote one list with one hand and the other list with the other hand. So strange!

I had a "list" much like this as a kid. Flood... to be overwhelmed, a flood of emotions like fear and anger. Drowning in a flood of emotion, like when you are so anxious about something you feel like you can't breathe, thus choke, or suffocate. Impale, when someone close to you has hurt you so bad it feels like a knife through your chest. Judging by this content and personal experience I do believe that this is a passive aggressive crying out for understanding. Which brings me to "hide", "scar", "punish", "crucify", and "beat"... I can see it all now: the kid stole, cheated, and lied about something, his/her father/mother/guardian found out and had sent the kid to their room as they always do before the beatings begin. Tragic.

Jessica,

Maybe your list was made by this artist who lives in SF:

I don't know about all the rest but I think 3 words are actually a phrase "hide damn scar".

Damn! Someone found my to-do list! (You can scratch off crucify and damn for me now. Thanks.)

It just looks like one of those alternating games I've played many times. Someone writes a word, the next writes a word they associate with it (or the first word that comes to mind when they see that word) and it just keeps going from there. It makes sense.

Flood. Drown. Choke. Suffocate. ... Impale might seem out of place but really it's not surprising for that word to come up in thought when you hear/see the word "suffocate." (It's more common than you might expect.) Then it just goes on. It makes sense.

That's my guess.

I doubt it was by that artist. His lowercase d is not the same, and his writing does not slant down and to the right.

I wish I knew why this was written. The writer obviously was going through something because their writing becomes more emotionally affected and rapid with "crucify," "cheat," "steal," "lie" and "damn" as opposed to "flood," "drown" and "choke," which I'm assuming were written first.

Whoever wrote this little list needs to settle down and have a Fresca or something.

Free association, perhaps?

My friends and I, being the dorks that we were, used to make lists of words like this, then ask the other to respond with the first word in his/her head.

It often ended up looking like this.

I agree with lily. I have journals and journals and i carry one with me all the time. if i don't have one and i'm trying to get the perfect word i'll use a scrap of whatever and try to figure out the best word for what i'm feeling.

This looks like a list of "actions" or verbs an actor would use to play action on his/her partner with each line of dialogue a different action. That way they have a similar theme, but are all slightly different. In acting schools, list like these are usually homework.

Some of these things sound as if they came out of the bible...I don't know very many people who still use words like "damn" as a verb
