I'm Just Thinking... November 03, 2002 |
We collect FOUND stuff: love letters, birthday cards, kids' homework,
to-do lists, ticket stubs, poetry on napkins, telephone bills, doodles -
anything that gives a glimpse into someone
else's life. Anything goes...
I was listing my seven deadly sins. && I couldn't remember them all so I just started ranting. I'm not sure why the numbers are there though, that was a while ago.
"Evilness"? I don't know what it is, but it certainly sounds bad, doesn't it?
my guess was the 7 deadly sins also. the numbers, i assume, are to list in order the worst ones.
'Deppression' and 'Lonliness' + film school + LA = yep, another illiterate film director in the making. I can't wait to see the result at my local cinema.
The child is simply listing all the possible emotions he/she can conjure and rating how they feel on a scale of 1-5. The highest being "Confusion", which seems evident.
Seeing as it was found in a film school, I kind of think of like some sort of lesson, where students have to convey an emotion, and maybe those are the emotions people chose, the numbers indicating how many students chose them.
I don't know, that's what comes to mind for me.
Seems like a 1--10 scale to me ---DG
I don't think that humor is one of the seven deadlies. (greed envy gluttony lust wrath sloth pride) In fact, I'd list humor as one of the virtues. (which I don't have committed to memory like I do the deadlies. sorry.)
And they're not rating one to ten, because there are two for each number, one thru 5. But I can't figure out any sort of pattern that could have made the writer assign these words the numbers in this way.
What would have been the partner to distress? Rescue?
I think it is a one through ten rating system. Listing out the emotions you feel, then rating them. I have heard of many counselors asking their patients to do this, especially the younger ones. But, I could be wrong.
Well, I am wrong already. I meant to type "I think this is a one through five rating system" considering that the numbers stop at five. But my brain and my fingers did not agree.

I thought it was acting notes for the emotions someone was gonna move through in a scene. The numbers? I don't know.
i figured that they were just a list of match ups, depression and humour broth ranked 1 because they out do each other, joy and fear
and confusion and revealing at both at number 5
but loneliness and and evilness don't fit, notice how evilness is the only one in black?
seems to me like it's a set list for a shoot with each thing paired with its opposite and the order they'll be shot or shown. Seems like something I'd do for a photo shoot or book layout.
just a guess though.
What an unusual shopping list...
Those are stages of grief, spelled out.
I hope they got better.
The numbers indicate successfulness or draw for each emotion portrayed in a film. We (the general public) like to see strong emotions on screen. Joy, evilness, lust, depression, humour, loneliness, confusion, anger.
Thinking of all your favourite flicks and decide which of these contribute to the success of the film.
Hey, maybe I should go to film school!
I was rather surprised to see that no one has yet analyzed the connection between each of these feelings.
My first reaction to this list was that it was written by someone very young, and very depressed, and trying to reconcile or figure out why. (Afterwards I saw USC, so I guess he's a bit older than I had imagined). In the process he made a revelation, of 10 of the strongest feelings there are, and what they bring out in each of us... or carry along with them.
1. Depression/Humor. Ranked 1 because depression is simply the strongest. Why with humor? Have you ever been so upset, that you actually take a step back and sort of laugh to yourself thinking, how in the world did this happen to me? At this time and place? At this moment in my life? If you think about it, that's where most humor comes from in the most popular comedy movies.
2. Lonliness/Evilness. Being lonely, brings on lots of negative emotions, and this one is easier to see by going backwards. Almost all evil acts, start from a root of lonliness. You can work out almost every scenario to go back to being lonely. A murderer kills his best friend from high school, why? Revenge? Why'd he need revenge? He left him. What did that cause? Lonliness.
3. Joy/Fear. This one seemed a little more simple to me. The best joy, the fullest, most complete joy. Comes from overcoming your greatest fears. Getting over stage freight to perform your solo in that Christmas concert. If you really get past it, you can experience the purest of joys.
4. Lust/Anger. Growing up Catholic, and now questioning my beliefs, this one comes easily to me. Your body wants you to give in to lust, your mind feels guilty. You either get angry at yourself for giving in, or angry at yourself for feeling guilty. Both result in the same. Anger. (Not to mention the endless other possibilites of anger that stem from lust).
5. Confusion/Revealing. I think this one is almost the most profound there. In the most confusing times in our life, new pieces of ourselves, who we really are, are revealed. Sometimes it takes some of the most difficult, and really confusing, situations, to make us realize who we are, how we react to that, and what we believe.
Well, maybe I just overanalyze things. But, those were the first thoughts that popped into my head!
