8mm
FOUND by Stephen Wooding in Salt Lake City, Utah
I was digging in my garden and found a little scrap of 8mm film caught in some roots, so I scanned it. The film contains about five frames of a home movie on Christmas morning. Two children are in the frames, a little boy and a little girl, and a decorated Christmas tree is visible behind them. The boy (on the left) seems to be holding something up for the camera (hopefully a GI Joe!). The girl (on the right) seems to have a large doll, which is sitting next to her. I wonder if these people used to live in my house.

This is a really eerie image-once I read the caption, I could see what it is was, but initially, it looks like some swirling overlap of ghostly images...pretty creepy

Very nice, reminds me of some black and white photos I just found. Weird place to find it though, caught up in some roots.

I don't really understand why nearly every photo posted invariably gets the *creepy* response. This is a negative of children on Christmas morning, which doesn't seem particularly menacing to me.

Wow, just wow.
At first I thought it was something from the holicaust. Thanks for the caption, now I see it clearly.

Sorcha: Some people think any image, and certainly any found image, of human beings going about their everyday lives is automatically creepy. Go figure. In this case, however, maybe they simply meant the fact that the negatives were buried in the ground? That part is rather strange.

I love the quality of the negative, somehow it gives it so much more character.

Amazing. What a treasure. When I was a kid we moved alot and I always wondered if anyone found the time capsules my sister and I buried at every house.
This reminded me of that.

My first thought was that this was an out-take from a porno movie or snuff film. I'm relieved to read the innocent caption.

that is actually super8 film, not regular 8mm. it was probably cut off in the course of home editing and got thrown out with the trash, ending outside somehow. i hope i find something like this someday!
