Not Necessarily in... December 01, 2002 |
We collect FOUND stuff: love letters, birthday cards, kids' homework,
to-do lists, ticket stubs, poetry on napkins, telephone bills, doodles -
anything that gives a glimpse into someone
else's life. Anything goes...
maybe it's good old day syndrome but it was a better day back then.
i LOVE that handbag!!! i wish it was mine.
Easter?
I seriously think this is my grandmother...where was this found?
Adorable
I was a child of the 1960's and I remember dressing up like this. I would guess this picture is from 1965 or 1966.
Why is the boy monochromatic?
I think the boy is dressed like that for communion or confirmation, one of those things...It is cute, that's when kids dressed like kids, not fashion models.Mass marketing is controlling us ALL.
I like this.
It makes me smile.
they look like those children from the movie, oh i can't remember the title, but you all know, right? where all the kids were born at the same time, and are like the spawn of satan? :D:D:D lol?
Children of the Corn
Was this found in Rural Retreat, VA? That looks like RR community center
Am I the only one who thinks that they're cute? >~<
You have my name.
This is in the age before dressing up was a kid's worst nightmare
Absolutely Easter and the boy is probably an acholight (alter boy). But does anybody besides me think it's kind of odd that the boy (even his skin) looks like he is photographed in black and white, while the girl and the rest of the photo are in color? Odd...
It kind of looks like the neighborhood where Poltergeist was filmed!
The boy looks little scary if you ask me. Like his face and head are fully formed on a 9 year olds body.
All of you who think the boys face is black and white are smoking crack rock.
These are cute kids. They remind me of pictures of my sisters and brothers when they were growing up. (They're significantly older than I am) We have tons of pictures just like this that were taken by my father with his old 35mm camera that had a lens that had to be focused manually, and he would always pose us outside in front of the prettiest tree or bush he could find. It took forever and was soooo annoying, but it makes for great memories now.
Who else thinks it is creepy that you can't see his hands???!!!???
I'm surprised no one else mentioned it, is it just me?
Molly:
They're behind his back.
The boy is disappearing because he travelled in time to the future, and oopsie, he altered the space time continuum. Do not fear. He's not "dead." He'll suddenly appear in someone else's random photo from the middle sixties, in a parallel reality, with a different hair cut and no freckles. But for this one, he's undone.
His hands are in his pockets.
I agree: this is late 1950s to mid-60s, and the boy is probably an acolyte in the Episcopal or Lutheran Church. It looks like he is wearing a regular white dress shirt and dark tie under his vestment (while a Roman Catholic altar boy would be wearing additional vestments).
I like the beautiful roses in full bloom behind them. This photo was probably taken with something more simple or old-fashioned than a 35mm camera, unless the print was cropped in processing. It's fun to think that these siblings are now in their 50s.
Roses in full bloom... would put it in summer, rather than Easter.. at least in my neck of the woods.
Not that it matters.
July 1966, Johnny's first day being a candle lighter at the Sunday morning Lutheran church service in South Dakota. Little Sister Sue dressed like that every Sunday for church. Her mom made sure of that.
I would say this is around March or April of 1964. Cooler temperature because the little girl is wearing a coat over her dress and the boy is wearing a long sleeve shirt. One of the first posters could be right about Easter...
But this was early in the 60s... the dress still has some 1950s attached to it.. and instant color film was introduced in 1963 by polaroid... so probably '63 or '64.
They look genuinely happy.
Why is it that this was posted on July 26, 2005, but the first comment is December 31, 2006?
I love those little random coincidences.. the Madness song Our House was playing when Found's page opened for me today (sending me randomly to some day in 2007, by the way.) Just as the page loaded the little thumbs for archived Finds, "father wears his Sunday Best" played on the song, and this Find, Sunday Best, showed up in the thumbs. Cool.
So anyway, Clover, the first comments didn't show up because there weren't comments until the fall of 2006. Can't remember the exact date, but I think it was October. I guess it just took a couple months for the commenters to Find this Find.
