We collect FOUND stuff: love letters, birthday cards, kids' homework,
to-do lists, ticket stubs, poetry on napkins, telephone bills, doodles -
anything that gives a glimpse into someone
else's life. Anything goes...
That is so hauntingly beautiful. Very old-world. Eastern Europe? Surely someone will recognize this place!
The scale on this is so weird! At first I thought it was totally a real church but then I saw the person standing to the left of it. Trippy!
This looks so familiar. The Midwest is full of tiny little structures like this, some useable as chapels (such as "The Little Brown Church") others not.
To my surprise, the rural Midwest is also full of contemplative monasteries such as Trappists and Carthusians.
Someone has an interesting hobby. It would be interesting to see the inside.
Aw! What a snuggly wuggly widdle church!
Wouldn't want someone following you into it though.
@Blaze ... the mosaics on the outside look Eastern European to me, too, but the cross on the top is a Roman cross not a Byzantine one, so I'm thinking not.
@ not just another mouth: especially if you wanted to pee.
(I'd guess it's a 'wee' bit smelly in there already.)
@ Jonathan: LOL
What I can't figure out: is that Hansel or Gretel standing behind the candy cottage?
That thing is totally made out of Nestle Crunch.
The mosaics on the front are of flowers in vases, which surprises and delights me!
Lady in Back looks like she is holding a child upside down.
I love this photo! :o)
In my mind, this is where Pastor Z works.
8-)
I wonder if there is a bathroom in there?
This is the hazard on the 14th hole at "Milwaukee's Best Mini Golf and Ice Cream."
that is beautiful...
Actually it looks like it's made of Dolly Mixture, which is a remark only the UK contingent will get...
Is this where Willy Wonka goes to church?
It'd be far more pink if it were dolly mixture! I thought it was shells, I have seen a shell folly before, but not a church. But then the size of it suggests it's not a "proper" church anyway, so would that mean it counts as a folly? Hmmm
This is a place of worship for folks who resonate with long, drawn out services. It only accommodates short worship.
When I went to Venezuela there were a ton of small "churches" and shrines nestled into the sides of the mountains. People would stop to pray, reflect, or leave flowers on their way from one place to another.
is that a person on the left? its so hard to make it out.
ok. now i see it, i copied it into my pictures and zoomed in on it. It does appear to be a woman holding a child. kewl.
I know that church! It's the Littlest Chapel, Guernsey, Channel Islands.
Orinico, I just looked up dolly mixture...it looks a little bit like what happens when someone has a Mexican dinner followed up by too much tequila.
Speaking of candy in the U.K., do you guys still have Wispa? It blew my mind when, after missing those things for 10 years or so, I found a box of them in a little shop in London. After checking the expiration date, I went hog wild.
This church is actually a normal sized church and that person behind it is actually a GIANT.
He caught Jack and is carrying him back to his lair in the sky.
For a 9 minute tour of this church: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_f1dHIIj0Yc
@ Pamela ... big props for identifying the little church!
re the video (pointed out by Ripley32) ... you have to get to about a minute from the end before you can really see that this is the place.
I've been here!! It's in Guernsey, I went there for a weekend with some friends to visit our old housemates, it's so cute!
It was raining the whole weekend and we were at a loss for 'indoor' things to do, so our friends took us to this Chapel. I have a picture almost exactly like this one..
Flargy they've just relaunched Wispa this year, I haven't had one yet, but I assume they will still be just as good
@Cassie, thanks for the info :D It's weird seeing a comment from someone who isn't on the other side of the world (I'm only 8 miles from you xD)
Guernsey, eh? Seems a weird place for something like this, the whole thing looks a bit mismatched.
@alan goes "pting" - if it's in Milwaukee then it has to be custard, not ice cream.
Kopp's Custard rocks!!
Cute little place. The video someone posted on here... Wow... the music is a strain on the ears, thats for sure. But I watched the whole thing just to say this:
Fooch. There is no bathroom.
Though the upstairs area is spectacular inside.
I'm with Cassie, this is definitely in Guernsey. Its a real chapel and has an alter and everything. Nice to see it has been appreciated on the other side of the world!
Reminds me of Woodleigh Replicas on PEI, Canada. To-scale replicas of buildings. Very beautiful.
It looks like it's encrusted in millions and millions of seed beads stuck on with craft glue. The steeple looks a little tipped. But it's cool.
That music! Make it stop, oh Gawd! Please make it stop!
I've now taken the Mr Magoo Tour of the Little Chapel. What a commitment that was! Whew.
This would be a perfect addition to the Corn Palace in Mitchell SD!

This little chapel reminds of the Watts Towers.
Perfect place for gay old wedding if you ask me. I'm fairly certain this is located at the Gaudi park in Barcelona. And EVERYthing there looks like this. Very gawdy place, the Gaudi Park.
It's "The Little Chapel" On The Isle of Guernsey. It's like a mini Lourdes Grotto w/ Stations of the cross and that sort of thing.
Built during the early to mid 20th Century by some ex-pat French Monks as I recall.

O.K. I'm an idiot... You already knew where it was. I guess I should have read all the comments BEFORE I sent mine. Oh well, here's some more detailed and scale showing pics:

Sheesh! Not my fault this time.
http://mosaicartsource.wordpress.com/2008/02/2
I knew it looked like a miniature!
The picture itself is beautiful, and I really liked it until I took the tour on YouTube which is quite distracting. Mosaics are meant to be appreciated and viewed as a whole...all those zoomed in shoots of what seems like millions of little pieces make me nervous!
The music selected isn't so bad; a little jazz never hurt anyone! But it repeats over and over and over, which is what makes it torturous.
I think I would have enjoyed this find more if it would have remained "unknown" -- although I appreciate the effort to ID it! Some things are better when left to the imagination.
