I Can Wait
FOUND by Jonathan Kosik in Orlando, Florida
I found this perfect junior high love note in my front yard, footsteps from the bus stop. I came home from work and found the note just as the Florida rain was about to destroy it. Obviously, Vivi must be a stunning beauty. I love the sentiment expressed, "Take your time, I can wait." It made me remember being 11 and in love, and giving the girl her space… such gentlemen we are if 5th grade. I just wanted to hold hands with someone during the couples skate session.

Aw, this is cute. Wonder how the sender-inner knew the gal's name was Vivi? Was the top of the note lost to the scanner? Or, was it cropped out?

I bet Alex grows up to be a really smooth operator. He's getting the chat-up part down early.

smiiiiiitten!

name signed in cursive means true love.

(also the lack of puntuation in the main message makes me imagine this eleven year old taking a deep breath and blurting all of this out in one fast nonstop mini-speech, like he just needs to get it out there, just needs to say it fast or he won't say it at all. then taking another breath, seeing vivi's reaction, and adding "take your time. i can wait.")

Just Awe !

I hope Alex is still this sweet when he is done school. I've never met a fellow who would write or even say somthing so sweet since my school days. This is a true treasure I feel bad for the girl who lost it ...even if she doesn't like alex it can be nice to keep such a sweet note and remember someone really likes/liked you.

I read "you are the grit of my dreams"...and I imagined a 9yr old boy sifting through a sandbox and finally uncovering what he believes to be the most glimmery grain of sand yet. He quickly covers it with his hands and runs back into his house, eager to hide it from nosy playmates. When he places it on his desk he is so overcome with pride for finding such a spectacle that he writes a love letter, endearingly naming the grain "grit".

She must be a very popular girl if he had to sign his name twice, just to make sure she knew who sent it.

Very sweet. I hope Vivi was kind, whatever her answer.

Ancient Vivi of Nashmare is apparently a hottie... The kid sounds rather jerk-like, though he probably learned this technique from an older sibling...

not so clever in racking the muck
@Night: maybe so.

Uh, who said Alex is a boy? Grade school handwriting is certainly an ambiguous indicator of gender, but without putting too fine a point on it, this looks sort of girly.

How about that for a paradigm shift?
+ April 11, 2008 09:02 AM +
not so clever in speling (sic) correction
racking, raking...whatever. The muck has been racked. The muck has been raked. Watch out, Alex(is), or Vivi might rack your muck. She might not be that kind of girl.

Sweeeeeet! I would have loved to get this note as a young girl (as long as Alex wasn't female OR nerdy).

My 3rd grader was getting little love notes from a boy in her class a while back- they were so cute! (ahh, love, unrequited!) She was going to throw them away, but I wouldn't let her.

I think all Alex is overly concerned with looks. Hey, don't get me wrong, I enjoy some flattery now and then, but at least mix it up--tell a girl she's funny or smart, tell her voice is sweet or that she has perfect ears and beautiful hands.

I wonder why all children misspell girl as gril? I've noticed it to be very consistant.

I love the honesty in it. I hope Alex holds onto this confidence to impress the ladies in high school with it. The "waiting" tugs at every girls heart strings. How adorable. His parents did a good job raising him.

A girl in a cube
I guess no one else camre to the conclusion that this is a trick-- girly hand writing means it's probably written by some girls who dislike poor Vivi-- they're trying to set her up for a fall when she goes to confront the unwitting lover-boy, Alex.

Lovely!

Sadly, chances are she won't have any idea how lucky she is to get notes like this until she's far away from school and he's the last thing on her mind.

Alex may come across as a superficial little twerp, but I can feel my cynical old heart melting slightly ‘round the edges.
Especially the bit about “take your time I can wait”: A refreshing change from the “I need time you can wait” of my experiences.

@A girl in a cube, I so hope you are wrong about this. Young girls can be so cruel, though, it is very possible that you aren't. Poor Vivi. :'(

Turbo in the Thunderdome
I think Vivi has written the note to herself and then showed it to her friends so they all thinks Alex wants to get up in her business. Alex has no idea who she is or ever will. Now, let's go roller skating!

And Em in CA, you could be an air hostess in the 60's.

I don't understand... where does the name "Vivi" come in?
+ April 11, 2008 03:04 PM +
just checking in ...
Corey, we can only assume that it was written on the other side of the Find, since the Finder refers to the name in the Finder's Blurb.

Coffee in travenous
I'm looking at the very faint writing in the upper left corner: All I can really make out is the word "take," but I like to think that Vivi's response was an enthusiastic "take my heart, for I am yours!" And then they hugged (and being around 11 never even considered going further, because kids at that age are all sweetness and light.)

awww...
i got a note just like this when i was 11. he was hoping i would give him a kiss and i wasn't ready. that's probably why i mocked him for suggesting i should be "Mrs. America".

ah, the beginnings of a wee little grammar fascist.
sorry, Ethan. wherever you may be today. =)

@ Elinor, I have an Internet pal who spells it "gil" consistently. She can't pronounce the letter "r" so she never puts it in.

I remember vinyl records, 45s, portable recordplayers with speakers clipped on the sides, and mono! (The system, not the disease...though that, also.) I remember when shag carpet was "cool" and people had large ceramic dogs in the corner of the living room. I remember when avocado and orange (called "harvest gold") were acceptable colours for large appliances. I remember when AC for cars was an expensive extra. I remember push-button radios in cars and the 8 track tape.
God, I'm old. I remember the pterodactyl.
