We collect FOUND stuff: love letters, birthday cards, kids' homework,
to-do lists, ticket stubs, poetry on napkins, telephone bills, doodles -
anything that gives a glimpse into someone
else's life. Anything goes...
oh snap!
looks like fun,
This picture is awesome in so many ways.
Wish I could have been there.
Dang... they never let kids do anything fun anymore.
Actually, if this were today... Johnny falls off the thing he is hanging from... he has a compound fracture of both legs, the school is sued by his deadbeat parents that send him to school with twinkies for lunch and now all the kids have to sit down on the playground during all recess time... playing jacks! Oh, and the kids parents are now the richest on the block and supply all the neighbor kids with the best crack around.
Too harsh??
Like I said... they never let kids do anything fun anymore!
A glorious photo.
But I wonder how one gets up there? None of those in the pic are tall enough to have hoisted him up. I don't think he could get up there even if standing on their shoulders.
... we finally have photographic proof that white men CAN jump.
I swear that this looks exactly like my high school. I wonder if it is...
"Help! I'm being sucked up into the sky!"
haha! beka your comment made me laugh so hard!
are the other kids waiting to hang?
How? Why? Someone help her! and then ask her "WTF?"
maybe she jumped off the top and caught on on the way down?
The farther north you go, the weaker the gravitational field becomes.
two words- wow dude.
This picture made me laugh so stinkin' hard!
How bizarre. Were school budgets really this bad in the 60's? (70's? 80's?) "Okay kids, time to go do chin-ups...out to the exhaust-fan cover."
I know I can't really see the faces on the kids standing by, but they all seem really "ho, hum, yawn," like this is a common occurrence. And, I can't help but wonder, what are the kids in the background waiting to do (and/or watching someone else do) at the other building/wing?
Its so silly.
midlife - i'm sure someone on here believes that. Just read some of these finds and comments. The one about the quotation marks is a prime example.
Yeah, Rebecca, you are right about the ho-hum attitude of the other kids. That is what makes it so weird! No one is under the guy in case he falls, and they DO look like they are waiting their turn, for their daily hang.
And then there are those weird stringy things across the foreground!
This is one of my favorite finds!
Maybe he's protesting something, a la people who chain themselves to buildings to avoid the building's demolishing. Pretty progressive for a kid.
This is not safe. I don't know why you all think this is funny. It isn't. School safety should be dealt with swiftly. Safety starts with all of us at home then we go to the schools and make them safe.
Must be the 7o's cause nothing interesting happened in the 8o's. Who's the kid with the ball? It's a Mayan hoop game and the teacher thought it was so cool she went out and took a pic. And Kimmy is stupid because school is now so safe we can't even climb trees.
In an effort to rescue lovely Rita's sunglasses (that were pitched up to the roof of the North Wing by tough guy Dave Schecter), Mark told Joel and Scott his heroic plan. "If you could boost me up on your shoulders," Mark explained, "I'm sure I can pull myself up on that cage cover thing. Once I get on top of that, I just have to step up onto the ledge and hoist myself up to the roof." Scott and Joel looked at each other dubiously. "Mark, are you nuts? You can’t make it up to the roof from here." Defiantly, Mark pleaded with his buddies, "I gotta try. For Rita. C'mon you guys, give me a boost...."
I love this find and visit it every week. Nightingale, thank you so much for the beautiful back-story. It's perfect.
An attempt at parkour?
Alex - you are right! Maybe it is a rare photo of the origins of parkour.
Night.. best back story EVER. They'll make a movie about this one day. I'm sure of it, darlin! ;)
Night...truly painted a great back story to the pic...I rather like that romantic touch...
i think that is my dad
I think I've figured it out, but you are not going to like it. It takes all the romance and suspense out of this photo. I believe that this is an art installation from the early '80's - a time when performance art and installations were cutting edge and art students would do things like this. It's a dummy wired up to the side of the building and the kids in the pictures are viewing the art. Sorry. I told you that you wouldn't like it.
Gym class sucked in the 70's.
Just an Easter Egg for an old friend, who shares this Find as a favorite. Drop me a line sometime. I miss our talks.
