We collect FOUND stuff: love letters, birthday cards, kids' homework,
to-do lists, ticket stubs, poetry on napkins, telephone bills, doodles -
anything that gives a glimpse into someone
else's life. Anything goes...
What age school are we talking about here? It's hard to tell because, while written in crayon (elementary school?), the note talks about estrogen (*not* an elementary school).
love the estrogen comment haha
I guess by the time we reach menopause, our love is tapped out.
"What we talk about when we talk about love" is by far one of the most interesting stories I have ever read. It really hits one in the soul if they put their mind away and read with the heart.
You must read Raymond Carver's story to really understand this one. The story is built around a couple's conversation and how love is expressed (or not). The fact it was found inside the book makes that book tells you it is the takeaway, written by a young critic, but the "estrogen" really throws me, like it was written by a girl, but what girl would write in crayon in a fairly adult book?
I think it is a young mind trying to say estrogen is the root of love. Obviously then, she surmises that love is only a female hormone. But if you read the story, you will understand how love ages as a couple does. Interesting find.
