Awww, this is so adorable. But it's also poetry. This one is a keeper. I'm also stealing this line for the next time I try to impress a female. Contrary to the childish scrawl, however, the flawless grammar and spelling and the good word choices lead me to believe the author is somewhat older than it might initially seem.

I wonder if the writer actually intended to give it to a person or if it was just his thoughts on paper. Whichever it is, I love this one.

I have to agree with Xana.. this does sound pretty damn creepy. Not that the sentiment isn't nice, or whatever.. but the penmanship and the wording leads to something disturbing under the surface. "Shyly offer them to you one at a time".. it might have been written with the purest of intention, but it reminds me of something a serial sadist with a baby's brain might think about. Lot's of pretty things...... one... at.. a.. time..
Apparently chicks dig this. This is good to know. :)

I agree that all is not as innocent as it seems. For one, it sounds sort of manipulative. Offering something shyly should not be a planned event. You offer something. If you are shy, that is what happens. But you shouldn't be PLANNING it. That is creepy. Like someone is doing WAY too much planning and giving WAY too much thought as to how he is perceived. Yuck!

this is not an original thought...my ex boyfriend used it on me a couple of years back...after we broke up he admit to finding in on an art book

This find is two years old. The 'art book' could refer to the actual Found magazine, where I believe this was originally published.

The funniest part for me is that the handwriting looks exactly like that of this guy I know. He's really shy around girls he likes and this seems like something he'd do.
+ June 23, 2007 08:38 PM +
Rebecca in Vermont
It's funny...I have the feeling that if the handwriting had been smaller and more "sophisticated" looking I wouldn't be weirded-out. (Or, perhaps, not as much.) It reminds me of a guy who liked my sister back when we were in high school. I think he bought a really inexpensive (the kind that would turn your skin green eventually) jewelry SET from like a Woolworth's Department Store, but then doled it out over a week or so as her Secret Admirer, then presented the ring in-person. Sweet, but creepy. With that said, I'm truly a romantic at heart, so I hope it's sincere and not sinister.

I hope to one day have this kind of romantic person in my life. I hope the person who got this note enjoyed it. :)

At first, I thought the first line was;
"I want to buy you."
But I read it again and felt a little relief.
It's cute, but still creepy in a way... :/

this is really cute. but for some reason the whole, "and shyly offer them to you one at a time" part, kind of creeps me out.

maybe it is because it seems like only a very young child would say this, but the writing doesn't look that young. so then it just sounds creepy to me.

or maybe i am just not the romantic type.
+ January 03, 2008 01:25 AM +
a bird in the hand
Wow. The juxtaposition of a child's handwriting with an adult's sentiment is striking. In any case, it's beautiful.
+ January 23, 2008 12:35 AM +
I might be off in here
I agree with Mary. There is something about this note and makes me think the person is not quite sane in the head.

With the handwriting, and the phrase "pretty things" ... I just get a bad vibe from it.

Aww, I don't think it is creepy. I know lots of guys with crazy messy and childish writing, so the look didn't throw me off. haha

I think it is really sweet. It made me smile. It seems like a rough draft for a card, letter, or song to a girl.

It reminds me of ee cummings. <3

Almost looks like a period after "I want to buy you" doesn't it? Know that would put a dark turn on it. It's not though.

Someone is in love. Surreptitiously slipped love note. Or maybe, a letter left unsent.

One interesting subliminal fact. Notice that "YOU" is written larger than any other word on the page. Somebody's got it bad.

I think I'm going to vomit. Because of the comments, that is. All the swooning and fawning...Hey ladies, I've got this beachfront property in Florida that I know you would simply adore. You'd better act quickly though, before one of the several other interested parties snatches it up! The note...what a contrived load of horse shit. Do you really think that someone who would do these things would actually put it in writing? Come on! This is probably some douchebag with a ponytail who wears sweaters and plays acoustic guitar in public parks. He caught the attention of some girl who he thinks would be a sucker for the "pitiful social misfit" schtick, and now he's going in for the kill.

It's not like it matters in the long run
All I can make out from the back side of the paper this is written on is Berkeley... & Spiritual...(?) festival..
& (Sat) March 6th.

(at first I thought the word spiritual was spirella. There was a company by that name, which manufactured custom-made corsets. One of its three factories was in New Haven CT.)

I agree with those who say it's a little creepy and stalkerish. (as well as calculating and manipulative) At first glance, it seems sooo sweet and.. woe-mantic. But no- there's an undercurrent.

I wonder what the delay between his 0ne-at-a-time offerings would be? a day? a week? 10 minutes?

Wow, the handwriting and words look -just- like my husband's. I'm divorcing him today, actually, and should be getting ready. Glad I procrastinated long enough to check out this site my friend recommended yesterday so I could read this note!

I could "find" dozens of notes like this in my boxes of precious things I left at our home when I left him. The day we got married, he started abusing me, and for years I believed that this sweet thing I was head-over-heels-in-love with wouldn't treat me that way unless I deserved it.

This note sounds cute at first glance, but as many have pointed out, a person who pretends to be shy in order to win your heart could well be pretending other things, too.
