Information Rules
FOUND by Jamisen Cooper in Honolulu, Hawaii
I was reading an old copy of Herman Hesse's Siddhartha that my mom had sent me, and I found this scrawled on the inside of the back cover. I thought the book was incredible, and finding this message only enhanced the feeling.

Oooooo. I agree w/you. Great find. I don't even want to say too much here - it would just ruin the feeling for me too.
Now I want to read Siddartha again.

Don't want to kill the mystery, but those are the names of three business books... probably someone took notes there when someone suggested them or something....

Oh, bolddeceiver, you *have* killed the mystery. Although I never could connect these notes to the message of Siddharta. Or did he build the machine that changed the world? Not a way to describe Buddhism.

bolddeceiver, you're trying too hard to ruin a beautiful poem about the internet. It's ok, Hesse's work stands as a testament to the thousand-fold beauty of Teh Internets Immortal.

All I could think of when I read it was "Built to last...Duralast," in that manly voice. Stupid advertising. If I didn't work in advertising, I'd blame it for rotting my brain.

Once again, googling the finder is more interesting (after bolddecieiver spoiled the fun). Jamisen "bugs" me.

You can still blame advertising, Jenny! 'Course, then you might be moved to take a look at how you earn your pay... so, never mind.

I say we pretend bolddeceiver got it wrong! I thought it was thoughts about computers...but they aren't really built to last.

I could swear that the first two are lines in the titanic. If not than they made me think about that.

That's messed up - I just picked up that same exact book from a yard sale over the weekend! Naturally, after seeing this find, I immediately checked the back cover and lo and behold there's some writing back there!:

simple
style
descriptive
words

It's like someone wrote a zen little book report!

Oh, Machine! When I first read it I thought it said 'The Madeline that changed the world'. That would make an excellent love song, eh?

Whether it has to do with book titles, the internet, or advertising,
The lines are poetic, and lovely in their mundane simplicity.

I think this is a scrambled warning message intended for humankind, hidden in a series of book titles.

"To World: Information changed the rules that the last machine built."

When I read "Built to Last" all I could think of was "Built to last....Duralast." I've been singing the darn commercial ever since I saw this found earlier today.

LOL. I just scrolled up and saw the Jenny thought the same thing.

I like how the find started out with, "Wow, how inspiring" and the likes and then bolddeciever spooke the truth and everyone was bummed out. I'm amused by the reactions, probably because I'm reminded of how I didn't like Siddhartha in the 10th grade, but I might appreciate it more now.
