The Pretty Girl
FOUND by Domenica in Denver, Colorado
I found this in one of my old purses. My youngest wrote it to me. Apparently she hid it there with high hopes I would find it. It's been at least a year and half since I used that purse. Sad.

I must admit curiosity as to what was used to make the lip marks.

This is a really sweet li'l note. Poor thing must've felt pretty deflated when it wasn't discovered.

Great note. Good sentiment for mother's day. A bit sad that you didn't find it sooner, but the girl who wrote that note most likely got the return message in another way.

Mother of two boys
Erin, I've gotten sweet notes like this from my boys - you should have seen the one I got from my oldest when I graduated college (he was a sophomore in high school at the time). I'll drag it out and read it when I need to feel good about myself (and have a good cry). There's hope, even with boys!

This is a great find for Mother's day!

Happy Mother's Day, Domenica (and all moms). Erin, I have a son, too. Now that he's in college, he tells me he loves me all the time. Must be the food there.

Erik, i love what you said about the daughter getting a return message in another way. domenica certainly must've given that message back all the time, having received such love in the first place. domenica, please write back! maybe your daughter will send her found note in.

erin-I hope you do too. Just let your boys know all their lives that it's okay to express themselves from their hearts.

wish-Just do it. Write it. Say it. Just be yourself. She loves you just as you are.
Mr. Rogers always said - "just be the unique person that you are". You can do it.
I wish for you just the right way!

This note is so sweet. I think I'd write back no matter old the child is now.
What a nice surprise!

What a perfect found for today.
I hope all the mothers who want something like this get one...and all of the kids - old and young who want to say this to their Moms just do. Why not? You never grow tired of hearing loving things from your children.

Oh, god, this reminds me of when I made something nice for my mom out of legos one mother's day, years ago. I set it up in the doorway and waited for her to walk by and see all day... she never did.

It's either the food, or the fact that he now truly appreciates all the laundry you did for him!! I STILL call my Mom and tell her I love her when I'm forced to do my own laundry (3 times a week!!!), and I'm 26. So there's even hope that the habit will stick after graduation. HAPPY MOTHER"S DAY!!!! :)

Yesterday our local paper published kid's letters about their moms. One kid wrote, "My mom makes me pagedy." I think they were talking about spaghetti. I thought it was way cute just like this find.

Freud. in the chair, next to the couch
Erin (and everyone else with boys),

Your sons might not write you notes like this, but you can take comfort in the fact that the reason sons don't write these kinds of notes is because they've got this (and other, creepier) oedipal shit going through their heads 24/7. Isn't that nice?

breathing stars in sweet solitude...
I think it's beautiful that you found the note years later. It's like a metphor of how love endures time. Your youngest is still just as imiginative as ever, how magical is it that you write back long after she has believed the note lost...

This is extremely similar to notes I would write to my mom when I was little (I'm 22 now)! Even the lips...we had a rubber stamp of lips that we would put on the notes. I would write on my notes how much I love my mom. I would add emphasis on the love by writing something like "I love you sooooooooo much" (extending the word so) or "I love you so so so so so so much" (writing so many times), knowing that writing couldn't begin to help me express my love for her. And sometimes I would instruct my mom to write me back, much like the young author of this note. We had a special place where we would hide the notes for each other to find: in one of the four holes around her four-poster wooden bed that were about 2" in diameter and about 2" deep and were where the bolts held the frame together, and there were decorative metal swiveling things to cover them. A collection of most of these old notes adorns my mom's dresser mirror to this day.

When I came across this find today, I immediately emailed the link to my mom.

Thanks for sending this in, Domenica!

It looks alot like the notes I used to give my mom and dad. I spent, I remember, atleast 3 hours writing up my mom's Noble Peace Prize for Best Mom letter. I even put a ribbon around it. :)
