We collect FOUND stuff: love letters, birthday cards, kids' homework,
to-do lists, ticket stubs, poetry on napkins, telephone bills, doodles -
anything that gives a glimpse into someone
else's life. Anything goes...
This is great! I love that not only does this have the little tear off sheets, like you used when you were selling your textbooks in college, but what's best is that people have apparently torn some off! "Hey! Here's an 'I hate you.' I think I can use that later... I'll just tear it off." Hilarious!
I wonder who took the missing tabs, and what they did with them. Hope I don't get one.
Whoever did this, I think I love them.
That's exactly how I often feel.
The Sharpie bleeding through on the other side looks like yet another "I HATE YOU," only this time the "HATE" word is crossed out. I sure do wonder why.
Also, the smaller "I HATE YOU"s at the bottom seem to have been written out of order, like when you make trouble in grade school and have to write "I will not call Cindy mean names" fifty times; you write all the "I"s first, in a column down the page, then the "will"s, then the "not"s, and so on. It seems a very interesting, somewhat impersonal way of expressing hatred.
i always found "hate" to be such a strong word.. and look.. this person's just spreading it.. free hate anyone? just so sad
*Tears*
This is awesome! It's so something I would do . . . need to do, now that I know it can be done. Genius! I love how some of the tabs have been taken -- I would've taken some, dang! I'm inspired to make something randomly funny for my college's free-posting board, with pull-off tabs, of course.
HA! I made one of these for my ex! Awesome.
Are the small "I hate you" strips actually cut separately, as if they were little phone number tabs on an ad? Yoiks! Though I do wish there was an actual phone number... who would answer? Better question, who would call?
The harsh simplicity of this is great. Rip-off tabs... ingenious.
I hate you too! >:0
I love that someone took the time to do this with the little tear-offs at the bottom. And I love that someone has taken one already.
I must have wrote this letter in my sleep last night after being woke up by my Ex at 3:40 am when he called me twice. Mind you, he didn't leave a message. I guess he just wanted to hear my voice on the recorder. At least he wasn't banging on my door all drunk again. To bad I had to move 3 hours away to get him to stop doing that. Then again maybe he wrote the letter because I moved so far away. Either way, this find is just how I feel. Hey Matt, I HATE YOU!! And just to show how fickle I am. I miss you sometimes too, usually when I'm drunk at 3;40 am.
OMG this person really wanted to get the point across...its written in bold on BOTH sides of the paper! and then on the little tear offs!
Well put!
That's great, just in case you forget later there's a handy take home version.
i love this. i love this so fucking much it makes me hurt.
i love the fact that a couple people ripped em off and took em home. we all want to be hated sometimes.
I really like this find. Who hasn't had one of those days when they want to let everyone know how much they hate them. This way you can cover more ground, faster. Very efficent!
Looks like someone has torn off one of the little slips (left lower corner). As if they need to be reminded or something. Wuzzup with that?
this is brilliant. i especially like the pull-off tabs at the bottom so we can spread the word or keep it for future reference.
what kills me is that 2 of the tabs have been taken!
That is excellent, another "Postsecret-esque" find. I wonder if someone had a vendetta against someone else who posts signs like these around town?
Looks like someone's trying to send a message to Steve.
This is one of my favorite finds. Who ever put this up was either having a horrible day, is incredibly misanthropic or just has a great sense of humor. I love the fact that it looks like at least two people tore off one of the smaller I hate you's on the bottom...I wish there was a phone number on the tear off's and if you called it someone in a very even voice would say, "I hate you," and hang up.
Who knew hating was in such demand?
I love the fact that someone actually took one. (and if someone's already said this, keep in mind that comments were at zero when I wrote this.)
cracks me up that a couple are missing. i'd love to know the inspiration that made somebody sit down and make that, then get the tape and go out and post it. wonderful.
I hate you back, you bloody git. The last time you and me were in the pub, you and a bunch of your mates spilled my pint. You and your left coast fruitcakes can have mouthful of my johnson. I've got your number.
Right back at you, ya judgenmental bitch!
Don't hate the Player, hate the game.....
NO! I HATE you more!!
I really like this idea. I may also post one of these someday soon.
Ah, spreading communal hate. I used to live in Rockridge (Berkeley adjacent) and the "tear off" sheets were everywhere especially high traffic places like bus stop kiosks. Promulgating individual hate is the next step in the telephone-poll flyer information evolution.
Good call Zack, by the way, enjoyed your work in NYPD blue.
this reminds me of this one time i was at a show and i found a bunch of these little flyers that said "call crazy pete he loves to talk" there was a local phone number too and when you called, this drunk kid answered and called you names and otherwise blathered drunken nonsense. called him from work at 3 am once, and he kept calling back until we took the phone off the hook so we could close the store.
Don't be hatin'
LOVED this find! I, however, am in a total 'non-hate', non-judgemental bitch frame of mind this morning (gasp!). I'm going to make my own poster, like this one, complete with little tear-offs. Instead of saying "I Hate You", it will say "Smile. Life Ain't that Bad"
C'mon people - let's spread the love
This describes how I feel, every minute of every day. I'm glad someone spelled it out.
What would be very interesting is if the two slips that were torn off end up getting sent into "Found".
YES! I also live in Berkeley! I want to go find this!!
Sometimes there is just too much love around and you gotta spread the hate instead. Balances things out. Good idea.
I know a few people who need those tabs...
Props to the kid who wrote this.
you know what? this isn't actually a bad idea! i'm thinking i may have to leave similar fliers around my college campus, except i'd change "hate" to "love," because i somehow feel people would react better to that.
or maybe change it to "the pope called; he wants his hat back," and leave the number for the vatican.
Bored, anyone? How bout something with substance? this has none.
The two left hand tabs were probably torn off by the writer. See how the tear line is one continuous diagonal, as both were torn at the same time. It's a common thing to do with the "for sale" posts, to make it look like someone else is already interested (promoting urgency in the nascent customer). Most people are right handed and tear off the ones from the right first, or just tug the ones in the center straight down.
The artist who posted it had a keen eye for detail.
Maybe i will find this person that made this note and i will beat the turd out of this person. he made me cry.
Glad to see someone else notice the obvious connection this has to Steve.
I like that this was found near a bookstore - it gives me visions of how I felt during college after selling back textbooks for 20% of what I paid for them. But who's really going to reuse a Stats textbook?
Today is my birthday and I was really excited to see what FOUND there would be. When I first saw this flyer I was a little sad, thinking what if this is a flyer for me, no one should hate me on my birthday. But then I realized this is great, I could tear off little tabs and tell everyone who gets on my nerves "Hi, I hate you and you can't say anything becasue it is my birthday so bite me!" What a great FOUND.
KH: people been spreading the love for about as long as they've been spreading the VD. it's long past time for hate-spread.
tom the british bastard in cornwall is my new hero.
also, happy birthday tiffany.
Dudley, the "Steve" flyer is one of my all-time favorite finds. I love the kind of people who actually take the time to do things like that. Somehow, though, I don't think it would be quite as funny if the name wasn't Steve.
I think, on the other side, "hate" is underlined, not crossed out.
I would wager a guess that this is the work of 'the hate man' Anybody ever live in berkeley and come across Mr. Hate Man? He used to be a regular in Sproul Plaza when i was there....
I love that it's two-sided. It's like a really evil mobile.
You'll also note that the other side is not capitalized. Perhaps someone thought better of it and decided that the hatred was a bit more urgent than originally thought.
Or more powerful. Either way.
I used to have a item just like this except it read: Can't we just get along for the kids. Eventually it was duplicate of todays find.
Don't hate me because I'm beautiful.
I can't find the Steve reference- checked the archives.
Remember Michelle and the lost love flyer?????
what is this Steve flyer of which you speak?
I think the person wrote it on the other side first, underlined hate, and then decided it wasn't emphatic enough...so turned it over to write in captials.
They mustn't have had another piece of paper, because if it was me, and I was fussy enough about the lettering, I'd be fussy about the other side showing through too ...
This was most likely the work of the "Hate Lady". See the following link for a little write up I did on him some years ago: http://www.kafejo.com/metaphys/hatelady.htm . I had a conversation with him last year in front of Cody's, where this was found.
haha I didn't get into Berkeley, lucky me. But one of my best friends is going there. Its too crazy...all that Sproul Plaza stuff someone mentioned. : )
This found thing reminds me of one day in student governement when our student body president walked out side of the classroom and yelled "I hate everyone!!" Good to know...
wow in all the times I have lived go to telegraph, I have never seen such a kick ass ad/ find. Pretty neat!
Look out salt lake, i'm putting up "i love you" posters with tabs.
that's much more appropriate for utah anyway.
everyone should carry an i hate you tab in their pocket to read to themselves and get that nice daily dose of self loathing every day.
This inspires me. I am going to make one that says: "I am a douche-bag" and put my ex's phone number on the tear-off tabs. In fact, I'll make multiple, and post them everywhere he goes, and some where he doesn't just so random people will call him and say "hey douche-bag" and hang up.
what a glorious find!
do you think the 'hate lady' has made the pez dispenser version of this flyer? imagine all the fun you could have dispensing those tabs, pez style?
i know we're supposed to love not hate, but for the momment, drop those social norms and embrace this respectable find!
Very cool flyer -- Let's Pass the UnLove Around!!
I think I found the Lost Love post - "Steve" apparently is really a "Stev" not a 'steve' (on the 3rd coast or something??)
http://www.foundmagazine.com/comments/873
Eggs1234, maybe they have the Steve flyer mixed up with the Robert flyer.
Alice in VA: You are hilarious.
Also,
Paul in San Jose, thank you so much for your small but informative description of "The Hate Lady." It made me laugh out loud, as does the idea of him leaving those flyers. So glad I decided to read all the comments today.
The Steve flyer is from the first Found book. In the middle of the page, in big letters, it says - you guessed it - "Steve."
Then there are tabs at the bottom, each of which also says "Steve."
And that's the whole flyer. Steve rules.
Sometimes I feel like this too. But a mixture of love and hate, is that possible?
there were a lot of cool tab-flyers around campus last year. someone was busy at work. :) my favorite was a piece of sheet music of 'my favorite things' from the sound of music and each of the tear-off tabs had a different favorite thing on it!
Yup, my first thought was Steve, too. When I first saw that in the book last year, I wanted to make one too, but I agree with Flargy: I couldn't think of a name to put that would be as awesome or funny. Steve is perfect and I don't hate him.
Aw, don't be hatin'. Come on... lets hug it out.
I bet the person who made it tore the tags off. That's the trick I use when I'm hanging flyers, to make it look like what I've got posted is more desireable than it really might be.
I want to make a new one that says "i love you" instead. I bet more people would take one. everyone needs a little love. actually...i really think i'm going to do that.
I'm gonna make this the 100,001st reason I'm glad I left Berkeley...
This is a new favorite for me. LOVE this idea! The possibilities are endless.
I love this, it reminds me of what I would like to put on my outgoing message on my answering machine, "fuck off". I would love to have the guts to do it and hear people's reactions.....but I don't think my pastor or my mother would appreciate it,lol!
