Valentine's Day Poem
FOUND by Cherie in Orlando Fringe Festival 2008, Orlando, FL
Sweet Valentine's Day card.
Clover in the Lawn
Who's it from? Danielle? Dan & Kelly? Dana Kelly? Dona Jelly? She's got promise as a future Hallmark verse-writer. This is very sweet! Ultra-contemporary with a traditional feel. What's the Orlando Fringe Festival?

"the festival provides an open space where artists can create their crafts in an uncensored and unjuried environment of artistic freedom"

In other words... A place for people to do weird sh*t in public and not get arrested.

was Jenna flattered by this card?According to police report....not so much

Sure Jenna was flattered. She's a fan of "Sean of the Dead" so looking like a corpse is a compliment.

Reminds me of a contest for "anti-valentines" they held once in my city. I translate the winner, which is better in the original, but still:

Come out on the balcony
With your face like a fried sardine
You're quite capable of scaring
All the blessed souls in Purgatory.

OMG is this a valentine from Donatello?! NINJA TURTLE EXTRAORDINAIRE?!
+ July 12, 2009 07:49 AM +
But Golly, are you FUN!
HA! Shanna beat me to it. It's either Donatello, or perhaps Donatella Versace?

I am in the middle of reading Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. According to the Bennett ladies, rotting corpses are not pretty.
Still, I have to admit that this valentine is charming.

Baby Basil, good one! Still laughing...
I know many people who participate in 'anti-valentines day' events.
Despair.com has some great satirical and sarcastic items. I love it!

Muse on the Loose
Donatello met Denna when he was signing autographs. "I'm your biggest fan," she gushed as he signed her forehead. "Please look at my MySpace account... I have these awesome pictures of rotting corpses." So he did, and the rotting corpses were surprisingly attractive. Donatello friended Denna on MySpace and invited her to the Orlando Fringe Festival on Valentine's Day.

Clover in rainy western Oregon
Thanks for the info, feeling in coherent. The Fringe Festival sounds similar to the Oregon Country Fair, which is, this very weekend, celebrating 40 years of "a place to do weird sh*t in public and not get arrested." Since the Fringe Festival happens in May, it would be possible to take part in both!

How many other counter-culture festivals are there in the US? Burning Man is another, isn't it? Someone make a list, please.

living in the fringe- OVCOARSE! It's where I'm especially happy,
Rainbow Gathering, but I don't know what they're like these days...

A friend of mine mentioned that Burning Man has become kinda mainstream, trendy, and even commercial. (therefore a bit disappointing. I had to wonder aloud if he's not just getting too old for that sort of thing...)

I miss the days of Good Old West Coast Dead Shows.. they were all like Fringe Festivals. Again, I don't know what they're like these days. (The Dead played at the Gorge recently, but I wasn't able to go. There could not possibly have been the sheer pageantry that there used to be, I bet.)

Fremont (The Seattle Fremont) Solstice Parade and Pageant. But it's more of a spectacle (spectator sport) than an "everybody's got their freak on" party.

Maybe it says carpse, like the corpses of carps. When we first got here, we were walking down by the river and there were a lot of carpses on the banks of the river. Huge dead carp, their scales were very pretty and shiny in the sun.

Cold Ethel: Hey, I want to set up you on a date with a girlfriend of mine name Jenna.

Guy: Tell me about her

Cold Ethel: Well she's a pretty as a rotting corpse laying out in the sun.

Guy: Yikes!

Cold Ethel: Don't be so shallow. Looks aren't everything. She's very unconvential. She's also a lot a of fun at a party, and is a real good dancer... a real trooper.

Frottage in the cottage
Sick true story that this reminded me of. A few years ago I read a book called "Stiff: the Curious Lives of Human Cadavers" by Mary Roach. I actually requested it at the library after seeing an ad in a science journal. Anyway, there is a chapter where the author visits a "body farm" at a university in Tennessee wherein corpses of body donors are left to decompose in various manners in order to study and gauge human decomposition. There are very high fences around this area, but the smell is detectable for miles. Roach describes a woman's corpse bloating in the sun under a tree's insufficient foliage.
