Canned Clams + Meth
FOUND by Toby Cook in Portland, Oregon
I used to work at a coffee shop frequented by an inordinate amount of methamphetamine-addicts. A pair of such unsavory types one day came in with an opened can of (I kid you not) clams, and began offering them to the shop's patrons. These guys even made a little sign reading "Free Try Me Fresh" to advertise the treat. The men were eventually booted, and they left their sign behind. On the back of the sign was this absolute masterpiece of drug-art.

neat find! Is that thing a mushroom beside the spider? Did anybody eat the clams?

Ugh... I feel dizzy in my head just looking at it.

I'm not opposed to a little spliff now and then , but I think it's sad that people would f**k up their brain and life with junk like this .This is fried out of reality .

What's so crazy about feeling like a mashroom-chomping spider is crawling all over your shaved head? I thought this was how everyone felt nowadays.

Hey, not all meth (or drug) users are necessarily "unsavory" you know. Some of them just made the mistake of being born into the wrong circumstances...

Is that a spider or is it, maybe, an over-sized tick?

I didn't see the spider at first. I saw what looked like a duck, and a someone's hands offering something to someone.

I think Cerulian is right, the markings look like a wood tick rather than a spider

How many legs do wood ticks have, though? I thought spiders usually have eight legs ... I WISH I HADN'T CHEATED ON MY BIO FINAL!

This find is poignant.
I've been a server in some high and low brow places. The interesting part of the job is the people you meet.
I've seen meth's affects and it's tragic. The person who drew this obviously had some talent.

Ticks are arachnids. They have eight legs, just like spiders. The body shape is much more tick than spider, and as Tom notes, the markings definitely make me think tick. The only thing that throws it off are the long legs; ticks' legs are much smaller in proportion to their bodies.

I think that object above the spider is a hole in the person's head with some kind of substance (blood? brains?) leaking out. The spider may also use the hole as its lair.

All this spider vs. wood tick debate. I can't believe that nobody has noticed the lines and ridges on the guy's face, and the unbalance between his tiny weak chin and giant scalp. Clearly he is an ALIEN.

Being in the city, we see less meth addicts, but the other "unsavory" types are just as entertaining. And often, they are more savory than the business men and women.

Maybe the mushroom thing is the pituitary gland, and the spider represents the creepy crawly feeling that methamphetamine produces (bugs crawling on the skin).

I really like this find. Everyone seems to be so hung up on the fact that the guys who drew it were meth addicts, but I think the picture is powerful, even beautiful, on its own, without taking the drugs into consideration. Obviously, they played a part, but I like it as a piece of art. I think it would be fun to psychoanalyze it!

It looks to me as if the spider is injecting something into his brain through the Mushroom-Looking Thing, which I think is the well of the dude's Life Juices. The markings on his forehead make it appear as if he is transforming into a spider himself.

Thats a spider??? i thought what ya'll see as the body was a fingernail. i thought he/she were just scratching their head. too much for me.

I'm just wondering what coffee shop the finder worked at. My guess is Portland Coffee House or Coffee Time.

Okay, this is going to sound odd, but I've always reasoned that I would never get a tattoo because I'd never seen a picture of anything I wanted to look at for the rest of my life. Then I found this....

Neat find. I like the story even better! That would have been something funny to see. A step out of the normal daily routine.

That's totally a tick. I've seen enough ticks to never want to see another one again. Maybe if it wasn't meant to be a tick, maybe it's supposed to be a tider.

I really like this picture actually... it reminds me of something that I would draw, and I'm not "unsavory", nor a Meth-head.... at least I hope i'm not unsavory :)

Maybe it's not a spider a tider or a tick, maybe it's a tock.

That's not a meth drawing.

That's an acid drawing.

It has acid written all over it.

You can tell from the shape of the eyes and the random lines.

Don't ask how I know.

I really like this. Because of the people I know, the story really doesn't seem too out of the ordinary, but the picture makes you think. What compelled the person, whether on meth or not, to draw this? What was their inspiration? I think that I like it most, because it makes me think. It's really powerful.

no i dont think that could be an acid drawing. if someone was on acid it would be pretty dificult to make a drawing like this without freaking out. the paper would start turning to grass and crawling up his/her hand, and the pencil might start bending or grow fangs.

I love it. However I see a duck not a mushroom. Hope that talent not being to wasted. (so to speak)

Doesn't it look like the tick has the guys ear between two pincers and is running away with it? Maybe that's sound going into or out of the ear.

I love how everyone here is trying to rationally analyze (spider? tick? scientific genera) a drawing done by someone who has injected a combination of cold medicine, nail polish remover and battery acid into their veins.

I definitely agree with Lauren...

It's strange to find something so repulsive and beautiful at the same time.
