Bad Sister
FOUND by Reed Merschat in Casper, Wyoming
A news flash blew into my front yard and it looks like Larissa is having a bad sister who fits a lot. Her name is Abby.

This is the cutest thing ever. The happy stick figure and star seem to indicate that haven a bad sicter named Abby hoo fits a lot isn't the worst thing that could happen to a little Larissa.

When my kids were in elementary school and learning to write stories, the theory at the time was to let them try to sound out everything on their own, rather than ask the teacher how something was spelled. I have all these cute stories they wrote but we often had to write the "translation" on the back so we could figure out later what the heck they were writing about.

Sorry to ruin the adorability here, but I think it's fake. For one thing, those typos are just *too* off - I can understand confusing a soft C sound with an S sound, but why spell it 'sicter' when you've already used the S in the beginning? Child logic doesn't work that way. (Besides, they spelled 'daily' perfectly fine.) Also, the writing itself is too well-formed to be by a child - if it was really somebody so young that they'd mispell every third word, the letters would look all scraggly. So I think this was made by a much older person, most likely a joke/reproach aimed at their sister. Just a theory, since I've done similar things to my *own* sister. ;^P

Aww, how cute! I have a younger sister and although we did tend to argue at times, we have been inseperable and best friends since she was born. Larissa and Abby have a special bond, I'm sure, even through all the "fits". =P

Many classrooms do 'daily news' so that part could be copied from the board. As a teacher of primary aged children in Casper, I don't think this is a fake. I see many kids who write just like this. Too bad I don't know Abby and Larissa!

Quartz: Although I was spelling quite well by 1st grade or so, prior to that, my spelling and penmanship looked essentially just like this. I've got all sorts of drawings and stories and such from preschool or so. This looks legitimate to me.

Did anyone notice the blurry second figure next to the smiling girl? Was Abby so bad that she had to be smudged???

This looks exactly like a lot of kids' notes to me. I work with kids and also have several years' experience being one, and it only makes sense that there are some words she already knows how to spell, and others she jut doesn't. As far as the C in sister - a lot of english spelling makes no sense, and kids figure that out early on. The real mark of true kidmanship to me is that this child obviously ended with "fits a lot," and drew a line beneath the writing, then went back and added "and her name is Abby." which makes me think Larissa herself might have written this, which would also explain why the author knows how to smell what is actually kind of a hard name.

To me, the smudge looks like the result of a cold glass (with condensation) being set on the paper- I can sort of make out a ring in that corner.

Sad, so young but I can relate. My own older sis was mean but Abby has enough sense to release her emotion in writing it down even if her sis never read it. It does help to get stuff off our chest and vent on paper even if you just tear it up it could offer some release. Why do older sisters have to be the boss anyway. :(

It caught my eye to see a "Larissa" on here... not many people have a name anywhere similar to my own! I have a little sister and this reminds me of drawings we made for eachother and our parents when we were little.... how cute :)

It looks like Larissa had a wet thumb, maybe from sucking it, and then picked up the paper. You can see the wetness bleeding into the wrinkles of the paper, though, so the wetness occurred after the wrinkling. Maybe it got wet after it was discarded.
