Thor Wants To
FOUND by Shawn and Eviona in Prince Edward Island, Canada
We found this on a bench on the University of Prince Edward Island campus. I hope she was happy with the decision she made.

Her significant other's name is Thor?! I'm not sure whether or not I hope that's a pseudonym.

Guys have to pressure girls - they have so much pressure within themselves. Still, it's sad she had such anxiety. She seems immature - "Just say no."

Thor putting pressure on her? What about pro's like "will feel great", "I want to" and "right person"...?

I love how the get in could "get" pregnant is in quotes, like allegedly sex leads to pregnancy. I also agree about the fact that she has no idea what she is getting into if she thinks her first time will be great.

i don't feel this is as negative as everyone is making it out to be. i went through a decision process [mentally] as well when figuring what was right for me and my "first love." we were 16 and my first time was great, not terrible as it is supposed to be. we were responsible and mature and i have no regrets. i hope the same for her! :)

I think she went for it. Notice how she stacked it up so there were more pros than cons. I mean "Will feel great" and "might be great" seem like pretty much the same thing, no?

I have a friend Thor - when he meets new people he often introduces himself as "Tom" instead, to avoid the inevitable reaction to his name. You can sort of see why, based on some of the comments here!

I like that the pros and cons are so contradictory:
Will feel great v. Might hurt - but at least she can "trust Thor to stop if it hurts"
Thor's the right person and that it "might be great" v. it will make things "weird"
and she thinks it "will be safe" v. her concern about whether she "might 'get' pregnant...
Not to mention that she forgot a con: Having to live with the fact that she did a guy named "Thor" for the rest of her life. - or maybe that's a pro.

"Location in Brown's Court" took hold of me enough to get me to google "Brown's Court" "Prince Edward Island". Apparently it's a popular area for student housing for the University of PEI. Maybe she was thinking losing it in a dorm-like environment was less than ideal.

Am I the only one who thinks that this is terribly romantic? Who could resist a boy with a name like Thor? I bet he is a six foot blonde, with a six pack to match... and he's the "right person". What more persuasion does she need? BTW. If I ever have children, and they happen to read this, JUST SAY NO! :-)

I like that she lists "I want to" before "Thor wants to." I am a little discouraged that she spelled to with two o's though.

I don't understand why people are concerned about the list making. I just assumed that everyone else made lists as compulsively as I do. I'm pretty sure there was a list that read somewhat like this when I was deciding whether to have sex for the first time. And it wasn't half bad either. First times can be great in their emotion and sensation with a partner that cares.

Also, Slynne, I think that she is worried that even if she is safe, there is still a possiblity that she might get pregnant. That seemingly irrational sentiment is one I can understand 100% as a sexually active young woman.

I waited until I was married - and 31 years old - but it STILL hurt. And I definitely could trust my husband... I can't imagine having to make this kind of decision in junior high or high school with a written pros & cons list. I also hope she didn't regret her list making nor her final decision.

This is driving me crazy so I HAVE to say: "Thor" is a Scandinavian name
(yeah, yeah, God of Thunder) and pronounced "Tor". My cousin's name is Thor and believe me, not even if we didn't have an ounce of related blood would I think he's do-able LOL!

Anyway, I think everyone is missing something here. In a time when 11 year olds are getting pregnant, we see a note written by an 18 year old (or older) virgin! I'm feeling a bit more hope for my 5 year olds future!

As for the decision, we all have that first time. Many don't have the choice and others aren't given time to consider it. Thor may be pressuring her but at least he's leaving it up to her.

All in all, I hope her decision makes her very happy!

Well, look at it this way. Perhaps his name is 'Thorton' and he's a loving, yet nerdy kid; and not some thunderous beast of a manly man. He just goes by 'Thor' for ironic effect. I think he sounds like a safe bet, honestly.

Thor and Tor is Scandinavian names, and are usual names in norway, at least. (also versions like tore and dobble names.)

Anyway, I wouldn't have done it.

I think if this person had to make a pros/cons list, then they are probably not ready to have sex. I also like how no one questioned that this couldn't be sex. Maybe he/she was getting his/her wisdom teeth removed?

This is the best comment I've read all day. Thank you for a great laugh, whoever you are!

And as for the list itself: so much for the mystery of shared passion and the thrill of mutual discovery. What could be less romantic than writing out a list on an index card of the pros and cons of having sex? Regarding the anticipation of pain, have young women stopped "practicing" on themselves long before having intercourse for the first time? Unless you're in an unusually repressive middle eastern or African culture, your mother-in-law is not going to inspect your hymen on your wedding day and have your throat slit if it's not intact.

I was reading an article that said that girls who started having sex before the age of 16 tended to regret it later, while those who waited to 16 or older had far more positive experiences. I'm sure there are exceptions, but overall this makes sense to me.

I'm for love first and then sex, not the other way around. And I'm definitely for romance and mystery!

Yeah, Brown's Court is where most of the Students from UPEI live since the apartments are cheap and it's right across from the campus.

Whoa, this one wigged me out because my husband is named Thor and that isn't exactly a common name in these parts. Fortunately, he has never been to Canada, and even if he had, I trust him so it's all good. Still wierd though.

Okay, I'm cracking up. I posted my response before I read the other comments. Thor is a Scandanavian name. My husband is Swedish. FTR he only acts like a caveman when he's hungry. ;o)

This is my last post, I swear. I think (I may be biased) that Thor is a great name. Yes, it invokes a response in everyone when I tell them his name, but I couldn't imagine him going by anything else. BTW, yes he's hot, and ironically we were high school sweethearts and Rachel I can honestly say BTDT and I have no regrets. ;o)
Oh, and our children are girls or we would have had another little Thor, but one of them does have a Swedish middle name that runs along the same lines. If we did have a son however his nick name was going to be Quint.

I don't think Thor is a boyfriend or anything, I think she wants to loose her virginity but doesn't want to risk heartbreak. Thor is clearly just a guy who wants to help his friend, no benefits for him at all...
