That Box
FOUND by Davy Rothbart in Chicago, Illinois
This note was flapping down the beach by the North Avenue pier. I was with Nicole and Claire. It was a clear, windy day- Thursday May 11, 2000. This note is written on the back of a blue piece of stationary from a Secretarial-Bookkeeping Service in Kansas City. Of all the cryptic, inexplicable phrased I have discovered in found notes, I can't think of one more spooky and baffling than "I had a premonition on that box." What the hell is "that box???" There's something very creepy about the handwriting, the use of the word "sweetheart," and especially "dark premonition which has bore itself out." Reading this note a few times, I've begun to feel like the sole witness to an extraordinarily grisly murder.
