And yes, if anything Jacob's deceiving his brother out of his birthright is really not a sign of the fleshly pursuits of Israel that has led to their fallen state. I would say it is more a sign of God's continually forgiveness of His chosen people, considering God chose to continue the Hebrew nation through Jacob's line, not Esau's, who was firstborn. Indeed, God makes a special point to always choose the losest members of society and family to raise up to positions of leadership and glory, which is a foreshadowing of Christ's humble birth and life, resulting in the glory of the resurrection
