I must be knee deep in PMS, since not only did I weep openly at this letter, but I assumed that it was written AFTER grandma had "shuffled off to buffalo" if you know what I mean.
My grandma died last April and I miss her every day. Something always makes me think of her and I get this new fresh ache of realization that she's not down in Palos Heights sitting at the kitchen table watching Oprah, waiting for me to come visit.

Krista, that's an interesting question, because we have two major grocery stores here in Chicago: Dominicks and Jewel. Invariably, visitors or new comers refer to "Jewel" but people who have been here their whole lives insist on saying "Jewels" and they always put a THE in front of it, but I think that's part of midwest dialect.
"I'm goin' over by the Jewels for some polish sausage."

We all laugh my friends, but my aunt was a majordomo for a wacky old lady who lived in an old funeral home. And the old lady stipulated in her will that her TWO YEAR OLD dog be put to sleep and buried with her when she died.
You can get liquor and beer at grocery stores in chicago. I remember going off to college in Ohio and being totally confused at having to go to a separate store for beer and liquor.
